  1. It looks like the Xavier Nady might be done for the year, as he possibly needs surgery. Just wondering if there could be some trade possibility here. Maybe the Brewers could swing an OF for a starting pitcher (which is seems like we could use). Any ideas?
  2. Phantom injury? Are you suggesting there was never actually anything wrong with him? He missed time last season, and this spring for the problem. Classifying it as "phantom" isn't exactly fair, or accurate... No, obviously he was injured before. I'm saying that people need to quit grasping at straws.
  3. He wasn't doing anything for the Brewers at the time and wasn't going to be on the MLB roster anytime soon...so I doubt Melvin is really looking back regretfully at it. Where would we play him at this point anyway?
  4. The other thing that got old was the "This should be in the vent thread" type responses to posts in other threads, though. I guess my opinion is that it's good to have done away with it, as long as people can still somewhat vent (if it's not in an obnoxious, repetitive, or stupid fashion).
  5. Braun says "I feel great." http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/43061622.html Really interesting blog piece from Haudricourt, where Braun says he just hasn't gotten his time and swing down yet. I hope we can just get patient instead of panicking about what phantom injury he may or may not have. Guys have gotten off to much worse starts than the .200 BA and .350 OBP he has to start this season. It's only been 8 games, after all.
  6. Well, I think you could also argue that the AL Central last year was worse than the NL Central is this year. The Tigers were probably the odds on favorites to win that division going in and completely tanked it early. I don't and can't see the Cubs doing that this year (though stranger things have happened). We could still contend for the Wild Card, but with teams like the Marlins playing well early, it will be extremely tough if our pitching staff does not turn it around quick.
  7. Well, I think one of the biggest problems with some of the past vent threads was that some people would post the same opinions over and over and over again...it just gets kind of old looking at that sort of thing. I don't know where I would personally stand on it...sometimes venting can be a relief, but at the same time it got kind of disappointing to see how huge the vent thread was last season when we actually made the playoffs...
  8. Great post, FTC. I agree 100%. I don't know if Melvin really expected Gallardo/Parra to be a legit 1/2 combo. There's no real track record to base that on. Just makes you think they really must be looking at trading for someone come mid-season. I just hope they can keep their heads above water for the next couple months to get to that point.
  9. Yeah, we have him for six more years after this season, and it should be a relatively affordable contract. Not worth worrying about right now.
  10. I gotta ask again... Do you folks think Melvin knew the pitching staff would be this shaky, or was he just in denial about it? Our number 1 pitcher right now is 23 years old, with barely more than 20 career MLB starts. Had to expect things to be tough, at least at first.
  11. The guy did hit over .300 in the post-season (granted, that was only 20+ ABs). Funny how that gets overlooked, though. He may be hurting a bit yet, but I think he just has some rust from not getting a lot of spring training practice in, like HOF alluded to.
  12. I guess I don't see any reason why this season should have been considered a rebuilding year. Other than losing Sheets, we aren't down any players we had to start last season (OK, Kapler and a couple bench guys and relievers). Overall there's no reason we should be taking a step back after making the playoffs last year, and it will be terrible for business if that is what occurs.
  13. Not the end of the world, but they could really stand to snap this losing skid quickly.
  14. Well, at least he's been drawing walks like crazy. That used to be one thing people complained about with him, and he already has five this season.
  15. Recently a drunk driver killed a father and son just outside the town I live in. He had gotten blitzed all afternoon at a bar, and when his friends and the bartender apparently asked him how he was getting home, he lied and said he had a ride from a friend. He had also apparently been smoking pot. There's just nothing that anyone else can do that will protect others from that kind of stupidity.
  16. I don't know...it's so important for this team to keep the momentum they had going from last year, and right now it's just not happening at all. I think it's clear that if Melvin is going to make a move for pitching, it's going to have to be sooner than later. They're looking like they need help bad right now. Hopefully Hoffman also comes off the DL pretty quick. Villanueva is not a closer, and to be honest, I don't think Gallardo is a #1 pitcher yet. It's just too bad because overall I've liked what the offense has been doing.
  17. Halladay would be amazing, but I can't imagine what it would take to get him.
  18. Yeah, Counsell has actually been pretty good so far this year. Why rip on him now, unless you miss his funky batting stance?
  19. Come on Brewers...let's break this losing skid and get something going. Manny, time to silence the doubters and have a solid outing. If our hitters can continue their positive trends, we can get a victory here tonight.
  20. I'm curious if there could be other possibilities out there as well. I don't see why it has to be Peavy or bust here. With the state of the economy, there's other teams bound to be doing fire sale trades come June/July.
  21. Yeah, he seems to use less of the generic non-offensive "MLB-ese" speak than Yost did, which is a plus.
  22. The whole "plays the game the right way thing" always seems to be used in justifying the existence of a light hitting veteran position player who is still somewhat above average defensively.
  23. But...if Bill Hall keeps performing pretty well (as he is now), what will be the real incentive to call Gamel up (barring some major trade)?
  24. Yeah...I think it's way too early in the year to seriously evaluate Macha, or compare him to Yost. There's been some things he's done that I've liked...a few things I've questioned. But overall since it's so early in the year to even be getting a solid evaluation on the players, it's hard to say how successful or not Macha will be.
  25. I've been to Legends in Delafield and will say it's a nice place with a lot of neat stuff, but I wouldn't say much in the way of "deals", per say. Seems like it's geared more toward people with money to burn who want a signed memorabilia item and don't care what it costs.
