  1. One thing to keep in mind...the Brewers and Cubs only play each other 3 more games this season. If the Brewers can take that series, or at the very least, avoid getting swept, it could help a lot. That said, the Brewers really need to start getting some wins. They've only won, what? 3 of their last 11 or something. Pretty pathetic.
  2. Or how about the old Pabst building that's just rotting away, and was going to get redeveloped, but then that got voted down for some reason?
  3. Pointless fact: The breed with the highest attack rate in the US is actually the golden retriever. Well, I heard that on the radio, anyway.
  4. That is a big flaw in MLB right now...only the teams with the deepest pockets and connections can realistically sign the top international players. They really need an international draft.
  5. I bet he gets picked up by someone. There's bottom tier teams that could probably see use in him.
  6. Exactly. I get so sick of the "Well, if we pick up this guy, then we won't be able to afford this guy" type of arguments. There are a lot more variables than that, and a lot can change between seasons.
  7. Well, it's certainly exciting to think about. On one hand, Griffey is a 37 year old with a lengthy injury history. On the other, he still has a great bat, is solid defensively, and has huge marquee value. It was previously thought Griffey didn't like Milwaukee and wouldn't want to come to such a small market. However, he is very close with Prince Fielder, and you have to imagine that the prospect of going to a first place team with a bunch of exciting youngsters on the roster has to be appealing to him.
  8. Where are the people crying "small sample?"
  9. It could be good to acquire him if the Brewers could keep him for a year and a half, and then maybe flip him for prospects or something down the line. He'd definitely be nice to have in the playoffs.
  10. Well, part of the issue may be that the Mariners are owned by Nintendo...they're probably more concerned with making money than winning a championship.
  11. Yes, I agree that he did a bad job. It's like he didn't realize he had to try and win the game until there were two outs in the ninth inning.
  12. Yes, and I do agree with that. I don't believe that you can or should try to "build a team to win the World Series", because it's basically impossible. You build a team to make the playoffs, hopefully several years in a row.
  13. Mench's value may not be that high, but he still hits lefties very well. I would hope we get more for him than a couple low level "prospects" if and when Melvin trades him.
  14. I really like the first two trades. I just don't think the D-Rays will part with Crawford, though, and don't really see how he would fit in with the team (Brewers) long term.
  15. Remember when Ohka faced Nomo last year (two years ago?)? That game aired in Japan as well. I remember FSN even showing some of the Japanese telecast so we could hear the calls in Japanese.
  16. You summed up my thoughts pretty well. I was adamant on here before the season started, that I was tired of hearing "Well, this year will be a growth year, next year is THE YEAR." We've heard that talk for the last two or three seasons, at least. The season has overall gone very well for the Brewers so far, and they've had few injuries. The NL Central title is theirs to lose at this point. There's no reason this team shouldn't be able to make the playoffs in 2007. Enough with the excuses, it's time to win.
  17. I bet they make up all of that and then some in merchandising and TV rights in Japan. It's like when Daisuke signed with Boston...people roll their eyes at the numbers, but don't look at the big picture. A player is more than their stats, sometimes.
  18. You know what's nice? That we're able to talk about trades like this, and they aren't ludicrous to think about. You couldn't say that even three years ago.
  19. Man, I'd have a hard time turning that one down. The Brewers don't really need Salty right now, but he's such a great player, and was basically the Braves top prospect, IIRC. Plus, he has the funny name factor which would make him popular in Wisconsin, to boot. Frankly, I'm kind of sour on Bush myself, and would be ecstatic if we could get a player like that for him, even if we don't have an immediate need.
  20. It does seem kind of odd that teams wouldn't push their players to learn English a little bit more. It doesn't bother me either way, but it seems strange.
  21. What is the big deal? It's not like she's semi-naked in that photo. I just don't get it.
  22. I like the idea. Roberts would be a great stop gap until Weeks can get his act together. Sending Weeks down to AAA for a while wouldn't be the end of the world for him. The Brewers are in "win now" mode, and unfortunately Rickie is a little bit behind the curve at the moment.
  23. The other funny thing I've noticed is where some of the Brewers end up...in my game (season 2010), Jenkins is now a Cardinal (the Brewers let him go after his contract expired, and he signed a multi-year deal with St. Louis). More freakily, Corey Koskie and Ben Sheets are both now in Yankees pinstripes. Hopefully not a sign of things to come!
  24. If Bush or Vargas could be flipped for something good, I'd be all for it. I just don't know how much either of them would get right now, though.
  25. I have MLB 07: The Show for PS2, and really like it so far. My career player on "The Road to the Show" is having a breakout year...he spent his first three seasons kind of as a journeyman/utility type, playing one season with the Brewers and two with the Mets organization. He's finally a daily 2B for the Padres, and is like, third in the NL in batting. I'm playing on veteran mode, after using rookie for quite a while, so I don't know if I have to jump up the difficulty yet...I still have a lot of "O-fer" games, but I usually make up for it by bouncing back with a 2for3 or 2for4 game. Only 9 runs so far this season (I'm just before the All-Star break in 2010), so it's not like I'm killing the ball. My favorite moment so far was Carl Crawford getting thrown out of a game by the umpire, after I threw him out at 1B http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
