  1. The Royals have improved this year. They're currently 3.5 back in the Wild Card, and with 82 wins, have clinched a winning season (their first since 2003). I think Yost's job is probably safe for 2014, but they'll be expecting bigger improvement next year.
  2. ESPN gets it wrong about a small market club player's contract? Go figure.
  3. Pretty cool. I hadn't heard about this yet, so thanks for posting it.
  4. It's so obvious. Segura looks visibly tired, everyone is talking about it, and they could play Bianchi... Hell, they can throw Betancourt in at shortstop if they want to, since the season is lost anyway. Keeping Segura healthy for next season should be the priority at this point.
  5. It's a nice thing, but will probably mean the event is insanely packed, even more so than previous years.
  6. Apparently the season MLB opener is in Sydney, Australia this year (rather than Japan as it has been previously), between the D-Backs and the Dodgers.
  7. Isn't this the guy talked about elsewhere on the board that has an insane amount of innings on his arm already?
  8. It's now being reported that Braun and his mother are helping build homes for veterans in California. New York Daily News has a picture up. http://m.nydailynews.com/1.1449723
  9. Exactly. Sometimes people do good things, knowing there are going to be additional benefits for doing them. This doesn't make the original "good" act invalid.
  10. Putting Simmons in seems a bit unfair. Clearly he was in the downside of his career by that point. It would be like looking at Hank Aaron's last season and putting him in there.
  11. People need to start attempting to be a bit more objective than this, or this thread is going to get closed. It's not contributing to the discussion when you refer to Brewers players as "piles of dung". This isn't a Yahoo discussion board. If you want to dislike Braun or criticize his phone calls to fans (which is what this thread is about), that's fine. Please find ways to do it in a less antagonistic manner though.
  12. Well, if this step by Braun doesn't satisfy some, so be it. I can't recall a professional athlete ever taking this sort of step to make amends.
  13. How did Weeks do the rest of the year though? Scooter has way more upside than Weeks at this point. It's too bad Weeks couldn't have stayed healthy the rest of the season and/or put up some respectable numbers so the Brewers could trade him this winter.
  14. I know this topic is about U-Verse, but I'm seriously thinking about jumping from Charter right now. Seems like both Dish and Directv have some good deals going right now. U-Verse isn't an option in our city. Our current "deal" with Charter is up in October or November so I'm weighing options. We currently have a bundle with cable, internet, home phone. Probably going to drop the home phone line permanently as I don't need a fax machine as much as I used to. The big thing I know I would hate with satellite is picture cutting out in rain or snowstorms. And yes, it does go out...my parents have Dish, have a house on top of a hill, and it goes out whenever there's a decent rainstorm.
  15. Pretty much this. There isn't any sign in Rogers' professional career history to suggest he's going to end up staying healthy enough to put things together and contribute at the big league level. I hope he proves us all wrong, but those are what the odds are at this point.
  16. Who wouldn't rather have Jim Henderson in the closer's role at this point anyway? I appreciate Axford for his time when he was good with the Crew, but it was pretty obvious for a while it was probably time for him to move on. He was a class act and really seemed to enjoy being in Milwaukee, so I wish him well (just not well if he's pitching against the Brewers next year).
  17. Sorry you're in this position, adam. I remember your previous thread about this. I don't have any good advice, but best of luck. I'm sure we're all pulling for you to come out of this OK, no matter what happens.
  18. It was "fun" while it lasted, but the previous topic was getting rather unwieldy. I'm told by the experts that such large threads tend to hurt board performance.
  19. http://i.imgur.com/hHy98.gif OK dlk9s, who would you recommend?
  20. I don't know what more people expected him to say. Some will never be satisfied, and that's fine. I really hope that this is leading to a full on presser or at least a sit down interview with someone credible (like a Bob Costas, etc).
  21. Guys, I desperately need some help. I have been having an issue with my main desktop computer off and on for over two weeks now. Whenever I try to print anything, from any program (doesn't matter if it's from a browser, from Word, Open-office, or Inkscape, etc) the program freezes and I'm unable to print anything. My cursor becomes that little blue spinning disc, and the program eventually says "Not responding" on the top bar. This is a Windows 7 desktop connected directly to an HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer. I need help! Any advice would be appreciated.
  22. I agree, in that I'm not really impressed by a written statement at this point. I hope that maybe this is just an opening and that it will say something like, "I will talk about this much more in depth when I'm able to in the near future."
  23. Braun is supposedly going to be making a statement today. Not sure what time or if it will be broadcast live, etc.
  24. The last time the Yankees were at Miller Park, I got to see A-Rod hit his career 400th homer. Brewers took the first two games of the series and then the Yankees blew them out in the third. We were at that game with some Yankees fan friends of ours, and I recall remarking late in the game with Carlos Lee at the plate, "This would be a great time for a meaningless home run." Sure enough, El Caballo delivered a bomb.
