  1. It was either in the middle of July (right before the All-Star Break), and yes, the Brewers lost all five games, including two in a double header. The team came back from the break to lose a series to the Dodgers, but then started winning series fairly consistently after that. It felt like that five game sweep sort of woke up the team, though. It kind of reminded me of back in the early part of the 2008 season, when the Brewers were looking good, then got swept by the Red Sox in a three game series in Boston. After the final loss, there were quotes from Ryan Braun about how much more at ease the Red Sox players looked, how the Brewers were playing like they weren't on the same level, etc. It seemed like the team got woken up after that sweep, and started to go on a streak of playing very good baseball.
  2. All that unfounded speculation about Jeffress not pitching the other night, and he spins a gem. What a night!
  3. It's like a total of three accounts pushing it on Twitter.
  4. This is a huge point here that I hadn't really thought about before. As a kid who was 12 years old in '92, the Packers were pretty much a sports after thought among myself and most of my friends. We all loved the Brewers. We paid attention to the Packers, but we'd also have our laughs about some of the Majik Era ineptitude on the field. There was definitely a big shift amongst us, and amongst I'm sure a huge portion of the state, after the rise of Brett Favre and the signing of Reggie. As far as the ownership issues, Selig really should have sold the team before the early '90s rolled around. There was no way the team was going to keep up with the way contracts in MLB were changing under his stewardship.
  5. I never got how anyone could hate Nyjer Morgan. We picked him up for basically nothing (traded Cutter Dykstra, who I believe never even made it to the MLB level), and he really energized the team that year. Cardinals fans hated him, so that was always a plus with me. I'd love to see him back for a first pitch at some point.
  6. Exactly this. What is the upside of letting the opposing manager and team know that one of your best players is not available in that game? Are we really still not trusting Counsell's personnel and communication decisions at this point? I'm sadly reminded of the debacle that happened one day four years ago, when we later found out that a Brewers player had lost his son. Some of the comments made before people knew all the facts were horrible.
  7. Bring him back to Milwaukee in some sort of role that is appropriate, and give him the statue next to Robin's that he deserves.
  8. I fully agree. No one had us pegged to make the playoffs at the start of the year, yet alone finish with the best record in the National League. Counsell should be Manager of the Year.
  9. I can't believe it! What an amazing year. It really feels like this team could go all the way.
  10. Man, I thought he was safe, but replay bore out the runner was out. I think this game is going to be dangerous for my blood pressure.
  11. Of the teams I'm old enough to remember, I think that at least on paper, the 1992 and 2011 teams were all around better than this club. '92 was such a gut punch year. I was 12 at the time, and remember it fairly well. It also hurt extra bad when Molitor signed with Toronto in the off-season. I believe Chris Bosio also left the team in free agency, which hurt the starting rotation a lot.
  12. That game right there, to me, is right up there with clinching the Wild Card on the final game of the season in 2008 and clinching the division in 2011. It really feels like this team's destiny is in their own hands right now. Cubs and Cardinals have to be getting pretty nervous.
  13. Let's get the bullpen going. Uke's story about not playing in the World Series was something I hadn't heard before.
  14. I love when he really goes off on a player doing something stupid on the field. At least, when he used to do that. I don't recall it lately.
  15. I thought that was weird too. Almost thought maybe he strained a muscle or something.
  16. First player to hit two cycles in the same season, against the same team, if I'm not mistaken.
  17. A loss today isn't the end of the world, but the missed opportunities, combined with all the Pirates' flukish hits, have been rather frustrating tonight.
  18. Not a "must win", but it would be nice to tee off on Archer and keep the momentum rolling.
  19. McCalvy tweeted that Statcast showed it had a 92 (or something) percent chance of landing for a hit.
