  1. It's not that people didn't like it. It's that the quote sounded very unbelievable, or at least out of context.
  2. "Can we find a way to trade for Papelbon as well?"
  3. Why would the Brewers have any interest in Upton? The outfield isn't a need for the Crew right now. These rumors are getting really desperate and weird.
  4. Here's how I think that was written: "Kelly Shoppach might get traded. What's a team that might need a catcher? Uh, well, the Brewers are bad this season and just traded that Kottaras guy. Yeah, the Brewers are interested. Let's go with that."
  5. Or a Korean one. He could join his former teammate Dave Bush.
  6. OK, fair enough, but with how well the rotation has been, isn't Kranitz at the very least mediocre (which probably fits most MLB coaches anyway)? I don't believe even the best pitching coach in MLB could turn around this bullpen right now.
  7. Or ever trade an elite, top prospect for 2 years of a soft tossing, good, but oft-injured veteran starting pitcher again. Not sure Marcum was really "oft injured".
  8. That's kind of my thought. Until injuries really become a concern for him, he needs to stay at catcher with Maldonado being the above average backup.
  9. Wouldn't the bullpen coach be more accountable than the pitching coach for the bullpen's woes?
  10. Getting a decent arm back (at least based on potential) in return for Kottaras is pretty huge. I have to think some other teams were interested and there was a small bidding war. I was expecting a washed up minor league reliever or something along those lines.
  11. Of course Greinke is going to say that coming back to Milwaukee is an option. He's going to keep all options on the table to drive up his eventual huge contract price. I know I've repeated this ad nauseum, but don't folks remember what happened with Prince and CC? We heard all the same talk, "Oh, CC loves it hear, the city has embraced him, etc." "Prince is happy in Milwaukee and wants to stay and be with his buddy Rickie." Don't fall for it and you won't be disappointed. I'm sure Angels fans are thinking right now, "He's going to love pitching here and we have a good chance to re-sign him..."
  12. They should look at trading A-Ram and maybe Corey Hart, but they won't. I don't expect much to happen other than maybe one of Loe/Parra getting dealt, and Kottaras as well.
  13. A friend sent me this link which talks about the trade. Very nice analysis of all three players the Brewers got back: http://www.bloguin.com/theoutsidecorner/2012-articles/analyzing-the-zack-grienke-trade.html
  14. I think I'd give him a one year deal, but that's it. Too risky to do a multi-year contract with him right now.
  15. Didn't get to weigh in on this last night, as I was at a surprise birthday party for one of my aunts. Anyway, I like the trade. We all knew Melvin had to trade Greinke, and it sounds like he got some low floor/high ceiling guys, which is the opposite of what a lot of people figured he'd get back. Segura excites me, and a 6'9 fireballer is always nice to have around.
  16. It would be awesome if Rogers ends up sticking through the end of the season. One less rotation question mark for next season.
  17. Call me crazy, but while I've usually been a 540 guy, I've been listening to 1250 a lot lately. Chuck and Wickett are pretty decent, and I like to listen to some of the idiots who call and email the show. Bill Michaels is also a heck of a lot better on 1250 than when he was on 620 shilling Kinetico and the Good Feet Store every five minutes.
  18. The dumb thing (if true about Melvin wanting "MLB ready pitching") is we actually have that on hand now between Thornburg, Peralta, Rogers (maybe), possibly Burgos, etc. The team can probably fill out the rotation next season with pitchers we already actually have, especially if Marcum can be brought back on a one year deal (which was hinted at by Haudricourt I think recently).
  19. Maybe the Brewers could throw ín the bobbleheads with Ramirez and the Dodgers could get them repainted.
  20. I still say the proverbial mystery team swoops in and trades for Greinke.
  21. It works! I'm on it right now. This is awesome!
  22. My guess is teams have been offering him scraps for Ramirez and/or Hart. Melvin is probably putting this out there to say, "Make me a legitimate offer and we'll talk some more."
  23. Danny Knobler just said on Twitter that the White Sox are very focused on Greinke right now. Of course as we all know they have a bad farm system right now.
  24. Yeah, someone on Twitter pointed out that Andrus may be destined to be Derek Jeter's successor. We've seen how well trying to re-sign Boras clients works out in Milwaukee.
