  1. Groundhog and woodchuck are the same thing. That appears to be one. I wouldn't be too worried about it.
  2. Estrada should be the long man out of the pen and occasional spot starter like we used to have in Carlos Villanueva.
  3. Well, their hitting coach can work miracles...
  4. Hmmm... "Brewers people telling other teams that decision on sell/not sell will rest totally with owner. They think Greinke least likely to be moved."
  5. I forgot about Star Trek. I got that one last year, and it's a pretty amazing disc. The LotR trilogy is also amazing on Blu-Ray. If you have a decent surround sound system, you can actually make out what Sauron is saying to Frodo in certain scenes.
  6. Speaking of grocery store parking lots, how about people who speed through their lanes like they're out on the highway, not paying attention if someone is trying to back out of their parking space? Invariably, these people will be jawing on their cell phone, and not afraid to lay on the horn if you dare pull out in front of them as they're turning a corner in the lot.
  7. Bill Michaels just tweeted that Thornburg indeed will start tonight. I'm just glad it's not Claudio Vargas as was speculated. Edit: Turns out he appears to be going off the ESPN.com listing, which is somewhat old news and not really confirmed by anything else.
  8. I remember hearing that the Gladiator Blu-ray had bad looking video in some parts. Is this true, or was there a more recent release that corrected that issue? I love that movie, but want a really good transfer in order to replace my DVD copy (which still looks very good today).
  9. Good points, FtC. I have to believe there's a lot more to it than a simple technicality, based on Braun's comments and MLB not publishing Das' ruling.
  10. I saw on the MiLB forum that the Brewers signed a Cuban pitcher, 22 year old Rodolfo Fernandez, for Helena. So I guess they aren't totally adverse to signing Cuban players after all.
  11. There's no doubt he's pretty much carrying the team offensively these days.
  12. I agree that you keep all three up and use Kottaras more as a backup 1B/pinch hitter type. Maldonado has been too good to send back down at this point.
  13. Agreed. It sounds like they are at least doing some groundwork planning, and that is good to hear. Maybe Melvin isn't the lazy and delusional GM some seem to make him out to be around here.
  14. Too much downside and not enough upside for the Brewers to make a trade like this. I really don't get the obsession with Youkilis that some seem to have. I swear, the idea of the Brewers trading for him has been going around for at least five years now. He's not the player he once was.
  15. Yeah, the team has a lot of problems right now, but center field (or really the outfield in general) isn't it.
  16. 1) I really don't want to rehash Nelson Cruz yet again. Any other team could have had him for free at a certain point, so every other MLB GM had the same perception of him at the time as Melvin did when he included Cruz in that deal. 2) Even if they had matched the Yankees' offer to Sabathia, the Yankees would have just upped their ante to a stratosphere the Brewers simply couldn't go to. The comments from Hank and Hal Steinbrenner made it clear they would stop at nothing to get Sabathia.
  17. I get sick of the "blame the manager" game every single year. The team sucks right now, and it's not his fault. Most managers are going to fail when their starting shortstop, backup shortstop, starting first baseman, backup first baseman, and starting catcher have all gotten hurt. Oh yeah, and two starting pitchers. Also your All-Star second baseman and All-Star closer are both sucking it up. Maybe he can give Rickie Weeks a good pep talk to stop hitting week popups and striking out at a record setting pace. Maybe he can re-teach John Axford how to throw a ball across the plate. I'm sure we could bring back Ken Macha if people think he could do so much better with Edwin Maysonet, Cody Ransom, and Brooks Conrad as regular starters. Curiously no other teams have hired him yet.
  18. I'm glad my band had a show last night and I couldn't watch this one. Sounds like another frustrating stinker of a mess. Melvin needs to convince Attanasio it's time to look at selling. Can anyone really look at the present roster and see this team even grabbing a wildcard spot?
  19. What is that supposed to mean? That the Brewers haven't been negotiating with him honestly up to this point? The latest rumors say that the Brewers and Greinke are still far apart in terms of what it would take to extend him. I think the writing is on the wall that he will "test" free agency after the season. I would rather see him traded sooner than later and get maximum return, rather than see him walk and maybe get a decent comp pick for him.
  20. A team trading for Hart might also be able to work out a contract extension with him, if they were so inclined.
  21. I've only heard of that scenario being used with the guy who caught Barry Bonds' record home run ball. I really doubt the IRS is going to track down the guy who caught Taylor Green's 1st homer, and doubt they tracked down the Happy Youngster when he caught Jenkins' 200th ball (remember that debacle, too?).
  22. The Brewers seem to be getting fairly deep with OF prospects, so no, I wouldn't extend him...and this is coming from a fan who thinks Corey Hart has been quite underrated and even under appreciated at times. But I still wouldn't spend the money to do it. I'd rather see him traded if anything, while he still has quite a bit of value.
  23. Well, Melvin did sign that Aoki guy to a pretty reasonable deal...
  24. I'm completely on the "it's time to sell" bandwagon now. That was a pathetic game and a waste of Greinke's efforts.
  25. Cooper over Fielder? Not sure on that one.
