  1. Yeah, I found a gray Molitor jersey (the '86-'89 version, also tough to find) on eBay a couple years ago. I picked up a powder blue one while I was at it as well. While the powder blue jerseys are everywhere, I've almost never seen an old gray one on sale except for eBay, which is why I was super pumped to find one. Keep looking on eBay...something's bound to turn up sooner or later.
  2. A hit with RISP! And of course Fielder goes after the first pitch against a guy with poor control.
  3. I really wish Kendall would have the day off...he looked dead during the Cubs series. I don't see how Ned doesn't see that. And didn't Simmons comment not that long ago that he thought Kendall would need some rest soon because he was playing an awful lot? My theory (tongue-in-cheek.....mostly) is that Ned wished he could play every day when he was a catcher, but because he was crappy enough to never play more than 80 games in a season, he doesn't fully grasp how worn out a catcher gets. That said, watch Kendall go 2 for 3 tonight and make us all look dumb. Here's hoping...
  4. Yeah, you don't have to tell me twice. I've been in the "Fire Yost" camp for a long time. I just didn't want it to sound like I was blaming Ned for the sweep.
  5. As someone on Deadspin said, with Manny Ramirez, Nomar Garciaparra, Jeff Kent, Andruw Jones, and Joe Torre, the Dodgers are now the heavy favorites to win the 1999 World Series.
  6. Sticking Weeks back in the leadoff spot. Finally changing up the order, except Craig Counsell is starting at 3rd instead of Russell Branyan. Playing Kendall today even though it was painfully obvious to everyone that he needed a day off after last night's game (and don't a bunch of catchers sit on day games after night games anyway?!). Waiting until the 9th inning of the last game to throw at one of the Cubs hitters when they've been as comfortable as can be in the box for four games. Bringing in your setup man in an 8-run ballgame just to throw at someone. Leaving your LOOGY in to face five straight right-handed batters (after not bringing him in to face back-to-back lefties two nights before). And calling a hit-and-run with your pitcher up and your aging catcher at first base, then using the heat as part of your explanation/excuse (and not by saying "The heat sapped my brain, I don't know what in the world I was thinking.") The Cubs kicked our arses fair and square this series...I don't think you can fault Ned for the losses, the players were just downright abysmal. But even so, I don't think he acquitted himself very well this series.
  7. Talk about sneaking one in under the wire....when the deadline had come and gone with no action, I assumed it was yet another Manny saga that brought nothing. And I would have thought the Red Sox would end up with more than just one player in the deal, even if everyone knew they were desperate to trade Manny.
  8. I did not see Tuesday's game, so apologies if this has indeed happened, but how have we made it three games into the series without Soriano being knocked down yet? The guy's been killing us at the plate; at the very least, wouldn't you try to make him a little uncomfortable up there? The evil side of me wants Dave Bush to put one right off his batting helmet in the 1st tomorrow, but the sensible side will settle for one right under his chin. I suppose even if he was knocked down Tuesday and I didn't see it, it wouldn't be such a bad thing to try it again.
  9. Did I seriously hear Ned use the heat as a rationale for calling a hit-and-run with the pitcher up and a slow runner on base? I think my head just exploded.
  10. The Winter Olympics do not interest me one bit. I don't think I've watched more than 2 minutes of Winter Olympics coverage in my life. I love the Summer Olympics though (minus the gymnastics). Probably because I am a track guy, but I also like the swimming and I'll be interested to watch the men's basketball team to see how they do this year.
  11. After attending many Brewers-Cubs games over the years I will say that I have seen many, many more obnoxious and antagonistic Cubs fans than Brewers fans.
  12. Did Sabathia really have 130 pitches? I wouldn't know because naturally, in the biggest game of the year, the stat boards didn't work at Miller Park. Of course, they still showed advertisements just fine, but nothing that people were actually interested in. And they had Cubs logos up there in the normal stat spots during the entire game! What the heck? For me, tonight was pretty much everything I've hated about the Brewers rolled into one. Fielders who can't make plays when it matters. Pitchers who can't throw strikes when it matters. Hitters who either hit a home run or have an absolutely pathetic at bat. Baffling manager moves, even if they didn't make a difference in the game (why have Shouse if you're not going to use him with 2 lefties in a row up?). Even when they managed to do something good (score 3 runs in the 6th) they did something bad (ran into two inexcusable outs on the basepaths). Ugh. I'm sure I'll end up using my tickets on Wednesday, but right now I really don't want to.
  13. I feel bad, because from what I see and hear, Rickie's a very nice guy who works hard, cares, and wants to succeed, but eventually enough is enough. He can't keep living on future promise forever. Durham has got to get a shot, pronto.
  14. Monday: 427, Row 1 Wednesday: 234, Row 5 I will probably be wearing my blue Molitor jersey one night and my gray Molitor jersey the other, along with my 1970s solid blue game cap with the gold M.
  15. I hope he makes it back here in some shape or form. I've always loved the guy, even during the frustrating summer last year. He would be good insurance next year in case one of our arms goes down for a while.
  16. I like this deal. It's nice to have another option at 2B and we didn't really give up much at all. Plus he's a lefty with good OBP. If nothing else, maybe this will give Rickie a kick in the tail and jumpstart him a bit now that he knows there's a legit chance his job could be taken. (I like Dillon, but I don't think anyone realistically thought about starting him every day at 2B.) Now if we can just add someone in the bullpen...
  17. West Allis is really not that bad, depending on where you end up. Some parts of town live up to the stereotypical Stallis image, but I live there (around 92nd and Greenfield) and I like it just fine.
  18. Not to derail the thread, but what did Ned say? I mean, I have a pretty good idea based on how he generally handles stuff like this, but I like to be quite precise in my Ned hating.
  19. http://pbpl.physics.ucla.edu/About_Us/Bios/Carl_Spackler/tye1.jpg Sorry...had to be done.
  20. Yes, more Giants Lot fans! I think I've only parked in another lot like twice in my life. It's either the Giants lot, or park on Wells and walk through the Giants Lot. It's by far the best place for tailgating, and I never have any problem finding my car since I always seem to end up by one of the #2 poles. A walkway over the roads (one where you have to cross into the lot if you're walking down the hill--where the river of crapwater is now, and one after you cross under the freeway where the cop makes you wait) would be nice though. Hmm...I need another confession if I'm going to post in this thread....well, when I was a little kid (26 now) I used to like a lot of the crappy fringe guys. Guys like Rick Manning, Jim Paciorek, Juan Castillo, and of course, my namesake (although I still tell myself that he was neither "crappy" nor "fringe." I was very disappointed when they didn't continue with the Brewers and thought that the team didn't give them a fair chance.
  21. The Holiday 4-Pack my in-laws got my wife and me for Christmas just happened to have this game in it! I'll be in row 5 of the LF loge bleachers.
  22. I have no faith in the Brewers making the postseason either. No matter what the circumstances, I'm convinced that they will come up short somehow. I don't like the National League, even though the chances of the Brewers being competitive in the AL are slim. I miss the DH (hate the pitcher batting for himself) and all the other teams/stadiums I grew up watching as I watched the Brewers. I refuse to stand for the sausage race because it embarrasses me as a fan that the stadium gets more fired up for the sausage race than anything that happens on the field. I own a Chris Capuano jersey and still hold out hope that he will be a successful member of the rotation in the future. I hate when people have seats in my section and row, but they are on the complete other side of the section and row (I sit pretty close to an aisle) and rather than go up and around, they make 14 people stand and awkwardly shuffle by them, bumping drinks and taking forever. I was excited when we first picked up Chuckie Carr. I love listening to Powell alone or Uecker and Powell together, but Uecker alone is getting pretty brutal. Also, add me to the list of people that hates it when we boo our own players. When I was moving last month, I came across my copy of the 1988 Brewers Yearbook (with the Molitor hologram on the cover) and Chris Bosio's profile had this to say under "What I Like About Milwaukee:" "The fans. They stick with you. They support you even if you're having a rough time. They don't boo you out of town." I doubt any of our players would say that today.
  23. Fired up for this one tonight! I'll be in the LF bleachers...I think I might have to keep score tonight to commemorate the start of the CC Sabathia Era!
  24. Ugh, too bad tonight. Some bad breaks, but still...take care of fundamental things 1. Don't get picked off base (particularly when you've had some close throws but keep taking big leads anyway) 2. Don't walk the pitcher when he is up there trying to bunt 3. Get in front of grounders to 3rd instead of giving them the Roger Dorn olé treatment and we probably win this game. Oh well, still looking forward to being in the house tomorrow for CC's first start!
