  1. How many weeks ago did Fielder punch Parra in the face? And our chemistry is good?
  2. My bad, meant to type 40, not 30. :-P
  3. I think next season will be a bit of a rebuilding year, as I don't think we'll be in the thick of things without Sheets or CC. So we might as well evaluate what we have next season, and see what we've got to work with for another run in 2010. We have another wave coming in probably in September of 2009: Escobar, Brantley, Gamel, Jeffress, Salome, and potentially Gillespie (probably as a backup). I see our lineup next year being rather similar to this season: 1. Weeks (2nd) 2. Hardy (SS) 3. Braun (LF) 4. Fielder (1st) 5. Hart (RF) 6. Branyan/Hall (3B) 7. Cameron (CF) 8. Rivera/Kendall © SPs: 1. Gallardo 2. Burnett (3 years 10 million per) 3. Parra 4. Bush 5. Suppan Wild Cards: Capuano (mid-year), McClung, DeFelice Then in 2010: 1. Brantley(CF) 2. Hardy (SS) 3. Braun (LF) 4. Fielder (1B) 5. Hart (RF) 6. Gamel (3B) 7. Salome/Rivera © 8. Escobar (2nd) SPs: 1. Gallardo 2. Jeffress 3. Burnett 4. Parra 5. Bush
  4. So if I understand this correctly, people can vent about people venting about people venting in the vent thread. Where as, venting about people venting should not be included. I thought all vents could be included here. Consider this my vent about people venting about people venting about people venting in the vent thread.
  5. Probably because the Cardinals are not a bad team themselves. Yeah, if we played the rest of the season out 100 times, we'd probably win the majority of them. But the Cards are good enough to get on a hot streak and overtake us (especially if Carpenter can be anything like his old self). Maybe its a defeatest attitude to think that we can't catch the Cubs unless the lose to the Cards. Thinking positively, if we are the best team in the division we should welcome the challenge.

  7. Hahaha, tough break. Not sure if you meant it to be a pun, but I found the wording rather humorous. I guess this sinks Houston's "playoff hopes", unless Wolf can play LF as well.
  8. I basically echo the sentiments of this man on the issue of crocs (and crocs butter). Link. Warning, contains some language that may not be safe for work.
  9. No because a good player surrounded by all bad ones could end up having much worse stats in those areas than a solid player surrounded by other solid players. In many ways those two stats are a reflection of the players around said player, as much as they describe the player himself.
  10. It's not like the team is going to play worse because a few fans are looking forward to the series after the next one. Yeah, I wouldn't want the players to be looking past the Astros, but what the fans do has little impact on how the Brewers perform versus Houston. So if some want to look forward to it, I say let them.
  11. Either ESPN gameday is really off. Or this ump's strikezone is awful. It keeps showing pitches right down the middle being called "balls".
  12. If we could somehow pull out this game, we'd be in super great shape with both CC and Sheets pitching the next two. Still after pulling out the game tonight, you have to like our chances for at least a split in this series.
  13. Skyline Chili. I recommend the three way.
  14. I think the biggest difference between the two is that in the past two seasons Harden has 72 innings pitched (and only 25 last year). He has already topped that number this year. Now this brings into question how much stamina he'll have, since he hasn't approached 100 IP since 2005 (120 IP). Add to that, that he's been complaining about a "dead arm" already this season, and that the speed of his pitches have dipped, and you have to wonder if he even has the stamina to finish the season, much less be a significant contributer over the course of the playoffs. Let's say they ask him to go 6 innings for another 13 or so starts this season. That would put him over 150 IP on the season (a number he's only reached once in his career - 2004). I can see why this guy could potentially be a solid pick up for the Cubs over the course of much of the regular season. But I really question whether Harden will be able to have the stamina to pitch effectively all the way through the playoffs. Compare this to C.C. who has topped 190 the past three years, and who has never had less than 180 IP in a season in his career, and at the very least, you know that he has the stamina to make it through a playoff chase. That right there is what makes C.C. much more valuable than Harden.
  15. All looks good, except LaPorta will be in Cleveland.... Nope, he wouldn't.
  16. Dhonks, makes a good point. The money should be there for us to possibly sign both Ben and CC next offseason, but why even stop there. I would say let's let the season play out as is, and this offseason do the following: Trade Fielder for Cain from the Giants. Sign Sheets 5 years at 19 Mil per. Sign CC 5 years at 21 Mil per. Rotation: Ben Sheets C.C. Sabathia Yo Gallardo Matt Cain Manny Parra Lineup: 1B - LaPorta 2nd - Weeks SS - Hardy 3rd - Branyan/RH Platoon partner Lf - Braun Cf - Hart Rf - Gamel C - Kendell Bullpen: Torres Shouse McClung Villenueva Stetter Riske The offense should be pretty average, but the pitching staff would be unmatched in all of baseball (with every single pitcher having the ability of having a sub-4 ERA. Our lineup would be super cheap allowing us the wiggle room to have the above pitching staff. The key would be to continue to develop talent on the offensive side (something we should have plenty of, looking at our current minor league system). Suppan and cash could be shipped off for the right side of the 3B platoon. Hall also could be moved for a moderate upgrade either in the bullpen or a backup MIF.
  17. Thanks for the update Mr. Rogers. One thing I noticed, your profile says you are from Puebla Mexico. What brings you down here? (I'm living in Puebla as well).
  18. LaPorta - Pat Burrell Gamel - Scott Rolen from a few years ago (bat)/ Audrey Huff (glove) Escobar - Omar Vizquel (in his prime - although Escobar won't be quite as good w/ the glove) Jeffress - Francisco Cordero Salome - Pudge Rodgriguez (in his prime) Braddock - Jeff Suppan (maybe with a few more strikeouts)
  19. What's the website again that tracks the "winning percentage" for a game that's being played?
  20. It seems that it would make far more sense for the more athletic player (Gamel) to play outfield over the less athletic player (LaPorta - who already has a history at first base) would it not? If we are going to stick anyone at 1st it would be LaPorta, not Gamel.
  21. Paul Konerko?
  22. 1. They are a work in progress. Doesn't mean they'll be terrible in the long run. That's why you give them time in the minors to work those things out. 2. And we have to be in order to compete in a small market. Like it or not. 3. He does, but is benching him for the rest of the season going to create to much drama on the bench? And could that drama harm the team? Plus he is a plus on the defensive end. Our team speed in the OF would go down quite a bit if we replaced Cameron with LaPorta. That would mean that our pitchers would give up more hits, which puts greater stress on an already stressed pitching staff. Plus asking Hart to pick up center mid-season is probably a bit of a stretch.
  23. Maybe I'm just not smart enough, and I admittedly don't follow the minor leagues really at all, but if these guys are so good, why aren't they on the team right now? It's not like this team is flawless or not at all in the need of help. Probably for a number of reasons: 1) All are still defensive works in progress. Especially Gamel. I've heard that Salome and LaPorta have been doing much better. 2) Keeping their arby clocks from ticking. 3) With Branyon crushing the ball, bringing up Gamel would be superfluous. Bringing up LaPorta would mean moving Hart to center midseason and that would probably not sit well with Cameron, so they are probably waiting with him until at least September in order to preserve team unity. Also, Kendell has done a solid job defensively this season despite his weak stick, so there is little reason to rush Salome. Plus Gamel and Salome are very young. Its best to let those guys go up a level at a time. 4) We can both agree that Braun and Fielder are stud players. But even they spent their time in the minors in order to be better prepared for a transition to the major leagues. And in the case of both, they waited behind players who were not as good as they were. (Overbay and Counsell)
  24. You honestly think the window will close by 2009? By 2009 we could be adding Salome, Gamel, and LaPorta to a lineup that already has Fielder, Braun, and Hart. We might have the most powerful team in baseball if those players continue to progress as they have in the past. So window closed by 2009, not likely at all.
  25. Newsflash: pebadger doesn't like Ned Yost.
