  1. While they are horrible offensively, a rotation of Sabathia, Lincicum, and Cain would be devastating. Definitely the best 1-2 in baseball.
  2. I'd say to the Yankees for Hughes and Cano. We would be buying low. Cano had a bad year with the stick this last season, that is beyond a doubt. But his two previous seasons suggest that this past season is the one that doesn't belong. He also brings a left handed stick to the offense and solid power for his position. Upside, we could get one of the better second basemen in the league just entering his prime. Downside, he continues playing like Bill Hall and becomes a hole at 2nd. He is a better fielder than Weeks, at least in regard to not making errors. He hits for a higher average, slugs better than Weeks, and strikes out less. Weeks, on the other hand, has a higher career OBP. I personally think he'd be worth the gamble as he has star potential. Weeks could either be moved to CF (meaning we would not pick up Cameron's option) or could be moved. One other possibility would be playing Cano or Weeks at 3B (I'll let those who know Cano better determine whether he'd be an option there or not). Hughes would be another buy low option. He posted an ERA over 6 in limited innings last season. There seems to be no doubt that Hughes has top level stuff, but he's had to deal with a number of injuries over his short career. Worst case scenerio, he's a Dave Bush type pitcher. Best case scenario, he's a top of the rotation type pitcher. This deal would carry a certain amount of risk with it, as neither are sure bets. Cano could continue to play like Bill Hall and Hughes could be one of those stud prospect pitchers than never really gets it. But the two also have incredible upsides that might be worth taking the gamble.
  3. He dominates the Cubs, what´s not to like.
  4. I can handle losing a playoff game. What is tough for me to handle is losing it because of three unearned runs. That's a tough pill to swallow. Our pitchers threw a gem today, and were not rewarded. That said, Hamels was brilliant.
  5. 1. Gallardo 2. Sabathia 3. Sheets (if he's doing alright)/otherwise Bush 4. Gallardo 5. Sabathia
  6. I'm going to vent the people attacking Ben over this. The guy doesn't want to be injured, he wants to be playing for his team. Like Russ said in the game thread, its like blaming a guy when he gets hit by a truck. It isn't the guy's fault as much as he was just essentially unlucky. He has pitched so well for us this season, and people just pile on him. We wouldn't even be where we are right now if it wasn't for him, there would be no wild card chase. So thank you Ben Sheets, and good luck wherever you wind up next season. I hope the fans there are more appreciative of what you do for them.
  7. No, most of us like him because when healthy he can be one of the better starters in all of baseball. At least in the top 15 or so starters out there. Now unfortunately he has run into some injury problems, but that doesn't change the fact that he's been very very good when healthy. I'm sure nearly every team in the league would have loved to have Sheets in their rotation this year, even with the injuries he's had.
  8. Brad Nelson? In the pitcher's spot?
  9. Weeks seems to be wilting under the pressure. Durham, on the other hand. Not so much.
  10. Mine dates back to my college days. At my college every year we'd have an arbor day, where the Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors would essentially clean up the campus for four hours (the Seniors got the day off). In order to keep things orderly, some of the Juniors were appointed "Strawbosses" and were responsible for various groups of underclassmen. There were often jokes about these Juniors abusing their power, and being harsh overlords over the students put under them. And so my friends and I started a website playing off of the idea of "strawboss abuse". The website offered a number of suggestions for the Freshman about how to go about reacting to their strawboss, it included a forum for those involved in strawboss abuse, it had pictures of those who were abused by their strawboss, T-shirts, posters etc. The stick figure icon that we used (found on the main page, and in different poses under the posters link) was a play off a T-shirt that had been made a year earlier by a group of people. Their picture was a stick figure standing with a rake, they had the words "who knows" on there, because very few people knew which day Arbor day would fall on until that day arrived - so it would be a big mystery. We obviously edited the stick figure image a bit to fit the theme of our website/support group. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif So that, is why I use "strawbossisevil"
  11. They need the eye of the Tiger. Everyone knows that. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. Gagne and his 8.05 ERA at home. Ouch.
  13. I like Yoono. It is an extension that simultaneously allows me to check my gmail whenever I want, it has me signed into AIM, MSN messenger, Flickr, an Internet radio, and it can save any picture, text, or video that you want just by dragging it into a box. It also has an RSS reader, so I can have all my favorite news sources on there as well. It also allows me to update my facebook status whenever I like, and I can see other's facebook status as well. All this in one reasonably sized side panel that I can turn on and off with the click of one button. I'd recommend it.
  14. The pen has needs, yes, but those needs can be filled by other people in the rotation. Gallardo is a far better starter than anyone not named CC and Sheets. Who you have in the bullpen doesn't matter if your starter loses the game for you. That is why you want your best starting options on the hill six to eight innings instead of one or two.
  15. Wow, condescending much? I think its entirely fair to look at recent history over total stats. A few years ago Cordero was horrid for a month or two with the Rangers, after which he was much better. And so despite his poor start, the Brewers brought him over in the trade, and really did well for themselves. If they had just the total season stats, they may not have thought that Cordero was all that great. With relief pitchers, who pitch so few of innings, a few bad outings can skew their stats for their entire season. Now I'm not saying that Gagne is all that great of a pitcher, I don't think he has much left, but it would be entirely fair to show how he was doing after coming off the IR. With relief pitchers, often you have to look beyond the simple ERA because small samples can skew numbers in one direction or another for a number of reasons. Look, I probably wouldn't have gone with Gagne last night either. But to go all condescending on a poster because he used a group of stats you don't like is a bit ridiculous.
  16. Having him back as a starter makes us better in the playoffs. He could be the difference between a playoff loss and a win. If his arm is ready for a real game, I say throw him.
  17. Well if we continue to keep about a 5 game distance between us and those chasing us. I see nothing wrong with us giving him a few starts, especially if he's had a few simulated games.
  18. Best Mexican in the City: Lopez Bakery - and its not even close. Its authentic, delicious. The atmosphere is very relaxed as it is in the middle of a Mexican bakery. And after you finish your meal, you can load up on a bunch of delicious Mexican sweet breads. I am living in Mexico, and I still miss that restaurant. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Try the gorditas made with carne asada. Yum!!! The chimichangas are also to die for.
  19. I already made the suggestion for a caption contest in the In Game Thread immediately following the game, where I think it ended up getting disregarded. But my caption there was: "Thank goodness Craig Counsell stayed far, far away."
  20. http://assets.espn.go.com/media/apphoto/5b7557a5-b0b4-4745-8073-9ad4d6f64727.jpg Thank goodness Craig Counsell stayed far, far away. Feel free to add your own quote to what is happening in the above photo.
  21. Can we be sure he wasn't nicked up before the injury he sustained on August 14? Perhaps his back was hurting or something. Heck, perhaps it played into the other injury. There is a lot about it that we don't know. All we know is that the Prince of Darkness said that he got injured on August 14.
  22. People do realize that two of the three "righties" that Shouse faced were switch hitters, right? And that the third was the guy that LaRussa swapped immediately following Shouse's entrance into the game? Just checkin' is all. If I'm just getting in the way of a non-fact rant. Just disregard this post. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
