It is a long season with many ups and downs. I belive the Brewers record is the same through 15 games as it was last season. My biggest concern right now is injuries. I think if we can get Vaughan and Chourio healthy and hoping Yelich's injury is not as bad as Murphy hinted, the offense will be fine.

They look like something out of beer league softball and the "W" kind of reminds me of the Washington Nationals.

Less than ideal regarding Woody but he is a vet and I trust what he says. I'm expecting his velo during the season to sit in the low 90's. He is a bulldog and knows how to pitch so I trust he will adjust. -
Peralta and Myers traded for Jett Williams and Sproat

Yeah, I'm on board with keeping Freddy for another season and taking the comp pick unless the right trade offer comes along. He can help mentor the young starters coming up and provide stability to the rotation.
-
I think they probably trade Peralta this offseason. Not sure on Contreras. Another thought, does Yelich have trade value given the numbers he put up in 2025 and do you move on from him this offseason in favor of playing the younger guys? That is assuming you can get a halfway decent offer for him.

This has been my concern with a salary cap. Right now, player control and arbitration does help a team like the Brewers to keep young talent around for at least a few years. That would likely be out the window with a salary cap, or at least greatly reduced. The cap is probably going to still be well above what the Brewers are able/willing to pay so the bigger market teams will still have the same advantage over us but now we have less control over the players. Revenue sharing seems to be the better avenue. Have all TV revenue shared equally among the teams, or at least a much higher percentage of revenue shared among the teams. I think right now it is 48% of local revenue is shared. The owners still make money as do the players (no cap). Have all of the small and mid market owners band together.

Adding Myers and dropping Mears. Presumably to have a guy who can cover more innings or even start a game with Myers. A little surprised that Lockridge was kept instead of adding another bullpen arm like keeping Mears or perhaps DL Hall.

I would go with Priester in Game 1, Freddy in Game 2 and (if game 1 goes well), Quintana in Game 3 and then another lefty, either Ashby or Koenig, in Game 4 and then move to Chad Patrick.

Trade deadline day thread
Ignitor 4ever replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Everybody always wants the new shiny toy while ignoring what they already have. I could not care less what ESPN or other writers think. They are of the same ilk as talking heads and writers that declare winners and losers of NFL drafts within 24 hours of the draft ending and (conveniently) never revisit their "hot takes" four years later when you can really tell who the "winners" and "losers" were. Why? Because most of the time their takes were proven to be stupid as players they thought were great flame out. I trust Arnold. Do not sell off the prospects we will need in a year or two just to rent a guy like Suarez and then hope he does not regress to the mean down the stretch. The Brewers have the team right now to win in the postseason, especially if a guy like Hoskins can also catch fire down the stretch. -
You really cannot argue with the results we have seen from Arnold. He (and his staff) have done a terrific job of identifying players (like Priester and Vaughn) who are struggling with the teams they are on but have potential that the Brewers believe they can tap into. That is as good (or often better) at improving the team than free agent signings. Also, our farm system is very strong and that is the way to win as a small market team. Keep building the farm system through the draft and trades. The Brewers are going to likely be a consistently young team with a few key vets sprinkled in, but that is okay if the farm system stays strong.

Sell Betts on the trade by reminding him that he'll never having to worry about staying in the Pfister Hotel again. -
This does not feel like a move that is being made in a vacuum. It is getting rid of Civale for a guy the Brewers must believe has some use and probably also is part of setting up future moves. I do not necessarily think they are planning on trading Hoskins either, at least not at this point. If we are out of contention in a month, then you consider trading Hoskins. Perhaps the team is looking at dealing someone like Black as part of a trade in July, which would free up playing time at 1B for Vaughn in Nashville. I just feel like this is part of bigger plans for the Brewers. Obviously the front office knows there is a bit of a logjam at 1B between Nashville and the big league club.

In order to save Bauers' arm, I would like to offer my services as the mop-up pitcher for the Brewers for the remainder of the season. I understand it will take up a bullpen slot, but I will agree to half the vet minimum. I will not require any rest and will be available to pitch as often as needed, which as of now appears to basically be every day. It's a bargain!

2025 Season Win Predictions
Ignitor 4ever replied to Underachiever's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I'll go 89 wins and that is enough to take the division as the Reds, Pirates and Cubs all are improved but beat up on each other. I see a team that could be peaking down the stretch as Woody gets healthy and Gasser possibly comes back plus additions of Yoho and Miz to the bullpen for the stretch run and playoffs. -
Labor Discussion - Salary Cap, Local TV Sharing
Ignitor 4ever replied to Austin Tatious's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Attanasio is also right. If the only focus is on winning a World Series, the organization may make some decisions in striving for that goal that could cause us to have several down years, while still failing to reach the goal. I'm talking about overreaching on big contracts that could sink us. That is the essence of "bites of the apple." There is so much luck involved in winning a WS that it is best for a small market team to stay within itself, develop young talent, make the occasional big splash and just stay competitive and hope for the cards to fall right one year. Last season is a great example. Who else in baseball would you want facing Alonso besides Devin Williams in that situation? We had our best reliever and one of the best relievers in the game on the hill and it still went against us. That's baseball. What the Brewers are doing now is the best way to win a WS. Just keep drafting and developing and hopefully making the right decisions when bigger/long-term contracts are handed out. Attanasio's job is not to singularly focus on winning a WS, but to keep a good product on the field to provide us with entertaining summers and the hope that one year (maybe soon) we will have a magical fall. -
Chourio will not hit less than 20 HR barring injury. He is simply too good. A projection saying he will be below 20 is kind of a joke and I'd be shocked to end up eating my words on this. Assuming he plays a full season (with normal off days) he may hit north of 30 but certainly not under 20. Regarding the rest, I have my concerns about how we replace Adames' production, whether Yelich is really able to be the player we saw early in 2024, whether Woodruff will really give us anything and whether Hoskins can bounce back. I'm assuming that two of those 4 things will pan out with my bets right now being on Yelich playing well and Hoskins having a bounce back season.
-
Based on your posts, I'm going to guess that you are in your early to mid 20's. You have no recollection of what it was like to wait 26 years to go back to the playoffs and suffer through some truly awful teams (with a couple good ones) during that stretch. What the Brewers have accomplished since 2008, and especially since about 2017, is incredible. Other than the wacked out 2020 season, the Brewers have won 86, 96, 89, 95, 86, 92 and 93 games from 2017-2024. As a small market team, that is incredible and deserves our praise, not our whining. Sure, we'd all like to see the team get over the hump and back to the World Series and I'm sure management is at the top of the list. They've had the teams to do it but breaks haven't gone our way. Oh well, that's baseball. Enjoy these years, because it is certainly not guaranteed that it will last.

All you need to know about Uecker is that the people who knew him and worked with him, are completely broken up at his passing. That is when you know the man you heard and loved behind the microphone was the same man in real life. No doubt that Ueck was the real deal.
-
I've been dreading this day. Uecker's voice was the sound of summer in Wisconsin my entire life to this point. He cannot be replaced and he set the bar so high that I do not think anyone can ever reach it. When he was at his best his combination of baseball knowledge, play calling ability and comedy cannot be matched. Vin Scully had the voice, Harry Caray had the persona and many have had the baseball acumen. Ueck had it all. RIP Mr. Baseball. Thank you for every summer evening that you brought a smile to my face and, often, laughter. Thank you for every story. Thank you for every "Hey, get up, get up, get up and get outta here!" Most of all, thank you for making me feel like I was at every game and turning even the most mundane of games into something worth listening to. You made everyone feel like you were their friend. Summers in Wisconsin will never feel the same.

I would be fine with winning the central and making the playoffs again. It sucks losing in the first round, but trading for Crochet does not come close to guaranteeing that the Brewers make it out of the first round. If you told me right now that the present Brewers roster (with a couple of expected additions through trades/signings that do not involving the "going all in" mentality of some fans) would be good enough to win the Central, I would take my chances. The past two years the Brewers were good enough to go deep in the postseason. That they didn't is disappointing but has little to do with them not going "all in." It is just the bad breaks of baseball. Who would you rather have had in all of baseball than Devin Williams facing Pete Alonso? It didn't work out, but 9 times out of 10 in that situation, Williams wins that battle and the Brewers are moving on.

Ashby and Hall to compete in 2025 as starters

I think the Brewers will keep Rea as a safety net, but my hope is that the rotation next year is Peralta, Myers, Woodruff and then two of Civale/Hall/Ashby. -
2024-25 Offseason Ideas
Ignitor 4ever replied to jay87shot's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I think you just have to see how the market develops on two fronts. 1) What might the offers be for Devin Williams, i.e. is there a 3B or SS who is young and controllable that we might be able to get in return, kind of like we did with Adames? or 2) How does the 3B/SS free agent market play out? I like the position the Brewers are in because I think they have flexibility. We have 1B and 2B covered and we have a guy in Ortiz who can play either 3B or SS at a very high level defensively. It opens up the options of acquiring a player through trade or free agency and Arnold has the option of getting the best available SS or 3B. He is not pigeon-holed into looking at just one position.
