  1. Jeesh, Jack, this is such a deep dive I hope you can come back up! But something like one of these seems to happen every year, so...
  2. I think Andruw Jones is a nice comp at the plate for Chourio...at least I hope he is. Jones was a vastly superior defender....and not just compared to Chourio. The projected decline is puzzling to me.
  3. While I expect a veteran to replace Adames (as a third baseman), they won't be all that good. The Chourio projection is significantly low, and expect growth rather than negative regression from most of the youngsters...I also see this group as an 81 win team. That's mostly because I think most of the pitchers will be worse, and Woody will likely be a shadow of his former self.
  4. For a lesson in how this works, ck out Henry Aaron's swing development over time. In the first half of his career he was a line-drive hitter, and it gradually developed into the King of Launch Angle.
  5. What the heck...time for a new "Kid" on the block. Let's see what a 17 year old can do with virtually no minor league experience! On another (more serious) note, a prove-it deal for Moncada is also an option at third. If Ortiz can't play short then the Burnes deal gets a bit worse.
  6. I dunno...I'm just a fan...but if he's ten times better as a reliever, then...
  7. I have little faith in Megill's continued success. The slightest injury will throw off his command, and that's tenuous enough as it is. MLB history is rife with a high failure rate for guys like him. Perhaps I'm just a pessimist.
  8. Is there any history of players improving their exit velocity as they progress? I mean, significantly - not incrementally.
  9. I was amazed at Frelick's ability to dot drive in runs. He and Michell can only get better. Right? Right?!? Actually, improvement from the youngsters is one thing they are counting on.
  10. Turang's arm plays so well at second due to his range, quick release, and accuracy. He would lose the quick release part at short due to the distance to first. He is the best defender in the game at second. Leave him there. Ortiz was a major part of the Burnes deal because everyone knew that Willy was already gone after last season. Move him there. Sign someone for third with Durbin the utility player/insurance policy for somebody like Moncada. Give him $2mm for this year with $2.5mm next with a 500k buyout. It's a slight overpay, but boy if he were to return to form...it's a risk worth taking.
  11. lol...I know it's a minor-league deal, but the Crew now added Bruce Zimmermann, a lefty whose major league numbers over 160 or so innings is 2.27 homers allowed per nine.
  12. All accurate...but I see worse peripherals this year with more homers allowed, so those numbers and percentages will be worse. Will the team's offense make up for it?
  13. Brewers could give up a crap-ton of dingerz this year.
  14. otoh, if the Crew can get more power from Yelich, Mitchell, Chourio, Hoskins, and Contreras...and even a few more dingerz from Frelick...they can come close to the number of homers. This will only matter if Durbin can play third adequately, and if Ortiz can be an improvement over Willy at short. (I actually expect Ortiz to be an upgrade at short over ly Willy).
  15. Soto didn't just spurn the Yankees. He spurned the Brewers, too! It's entirely possible that Durbin won't be too big of a drop-off from Ortiz at third, and that Ortiz is an upgrade over Willy at short. Neither is a sure thing, but...maybe? And it's also entirely possible that Durbin is in AAA next year. It's in the power department that the team is taking a hit. Durbin ain't hitting 25-30 dingerz. The team could make it up with power improvement from a full season of "good" Chourio, growth from Mitchell (and the other youngsters) in power, and just maybe a bit of a return from a healthy Yelich. Even Hoskins could return to form a bit. That's a lot of ifs, but as Doc Brown would say, what the hell...we might as well be positive in December.
  16. Unless somebody is ready to blow the Brewers away with a deal for Abner, it would be extreme folly to give up on stuff like his. Time for the pitching lab to work some more magic.
  17. They need a bat more. Ortiz can play short for a few years, and his bat could still return to ly first half (pre-injury) levels. With Turang getting regular ABs they need that bat. I can see Ortiz improving at the plate, but Brice has perhaps reached his peak.
