  1. I could see it hurting the position players somewhat because: 1) They don't really get the 3 days off for a physical/mental break. 2) The homerun derby requires a lot of excursion, and it also seems logical it could mess up their swing a little.
  2. And don't forget July included the all-star break and several games in which Yuni was benched. And truthfully it hasn't even been the whole month that he's been hot. Prior to the all-star break (which began July 11th), his July line was .206/.222/.265 for a .487 OPS. So his hot streak has been barely over a week. A don't forget that he has been playing poor defense the entire season. Don't get me wrong, if he's going to play I'm pulling for him to be productive. But it's kind of ridiculous that people are now talking about Betancourt batting .400 the rest of the year and everyone eating crow. I get it that the Yuni B defenders are desperate for something to grasp at, but let's not make it out to be more than it really is. Try to be realistic about what to expect moving forward, based on what the guy has done over the past 3 years.
  3. Gotta love when people bury their head in the sand during 300 at-bats of awfulness, and then point at his last 20 at-bats to "prove all the haters wrong." I really hope that Yuni's near benching has at least made him give some serious consideration to changing his plate approach. It doesn't look like he's going to be replaced anytime soon unfortunately, so hopefully we can get a few hot streaks out of him the rest of the season.
  4. I don't know, the announcers were acting like it was the most impressive accomplishment of the 21st century.
  5. I like (just like others mentioned) how Cirillo is honest and not afraid to say negative things. He pointed out several times that our infield defense basically stinks. He also seems to notice and point out intricacies of the game that Schroeder doesn't. That said, his broadcasting voice needs a lot of work and I found it difficult to follow what he was trying to articulate with some of his thoughts.
  6. They should definitely just dump Betancourt. I don't really see much value for him as a bench guy. He can't run, he plays poor defense, and he couldn't give you a late-inning professional pinch hit at-bat if his life depended on it. Not worth the risk of him getting disgruntled and becoming a distraction.
  7. The Yankees recently sent down Chris Dickerson. I'd like to have him back.
  8. My jaw dropped when he couldn't get to that ground ball in the 10th inning. His plate appearances of late have been expectedly abysmal. It's gotten to the point now where allowing a guy this bad to bring down a very good team has to be in consideration for the worst thing Melvin has done as GM of the Brewers.
  9. Did that pickoff play on Hart look like a balk to anybody else? When I saw the replay, it looked like his front leg clearly crossed the plane.
  10. I agree that Roenicke's comments and actions the past couple have days have been a step in the right direction. Hopefully it continues, because our post-season chances are going to increase significantly if he maximizes the potential of this team.
  11. For the past couple of days I've been trying to wrap my mind around how it could be possible that somebody (seemingly) without even a rudimentary understanding of statistics/odds/match-ups/etc and how they relate to success in baseball could become a Major League manager. I mean, there are only 30 of these positions available in the entire world, and with the amount at stake (especially money) you'd think that only the absolute best and the brightest would be chosen. The reality is guys like Yost and Roenicke somehow hold these jobs. Can somebody explain it to me? We should have a dugout full of the most astute baseball minds in the world, but somehow they're rarely able to collectively make logical or even defensible decisions. It has to be the fact that only former Major League players are considered for these jobs. I guess it would be comparable to needing to hire an architect to design a building, but restricting your search to candidates who have spent their lives as brick-layers.
  12. Don't look now, but Yuni B now has a higher OPS than McGehee.
  13. D Would be an F, but the guys seem to like playing for him. That's worth something I guess.
  14. He's partially responsible for that. He chose to start Kotsay over Morgan, and wants Nieves on his roster instead of Kottaras.
  15. I've officially had it with Roenicke. His decision making is a puzzling as Yost's was. Today's lineup was asking for a shutout. Nieves is one of the worst hitters I've had the displeasure of watching. Kotsay gets another start in CF based on a handful of successful at-bats ranging from years ago, while one of the best hitters on the team (and an MUCH better fielder) sits over a measly 9 at-bats against a pitcher. His love affair with Kameron Loe is equally as baffling. Some of the blame for this team's shortcomings are on Melvin, but Roenicke has managed to misuse the roster to an extreme. The Brewers been successful this year in spite of of RR, certainly not because of him.
  16. It was a great play, no doubt. Very nifty glove-work. I don't think that really indicates anything about his range overall as a defender unfortunately. And he currently has a .258 OBP. That's brutal.
  17. I really think all we really need is a guy who stresses hitting the ball up the middle and to the opposite field. Oh wait...
  18. I actually miss Macha a little as well. He seemed to have more common sense than a lot managers, and I think that's more important than having the players like you. He wasn't perfect, but I rarely found that he made logically indefensible strategic maneuvers the way Yost did and Roenicke does now. Considering how bad the starting pitching was the last two years, it was actually quite a feat for those teams to win as many games as they did.
  19. If teams are in any way expected to stop trying at a certain point, then they may as well just call the game due to mercy rule at that point. Did the Cubs have in all of their backups when Gomez stole? Was one of their utility players in there pitching, since the game was so far out of hand? I didn't think so. Clearly, they didn't think the game was "over" so I'm not sure why the Brewers should have.
  20. Fleetwood Mac -- The Chain
  21. I thought this week's episode was one of the worst the series has ever done. Toby's head exploding over and over was the only part I can remember that even made me chuckle.
  22. So, maybe I just wasn't paying attention, but what happened to the Timothy Olyphant character? Did he quit or get fired?
  23. I was Billy Mays last year, and it was really easy. Black make-up beard, blue button shirt, khakis, and an Oxy Clean logo on your shirt.
  24. Possibly meaningless stat: Since Hart signed the extension, he's batting .221 /.274/.312 -- for a .585 OPS with 0 HR, 4 BB, and 29 K.
  25. I think losing the last two games (convincingly) is the best thing that could have happened to this franchise. Hopefully it was the nail in the coffin of Melvin's hopes that some kind of miracle run at the postseason was going to occur. Time to start moving some veterans.
