  1. From the start, a movie based on this book seemed bizarre. What's next? A movie based on the 2007 Sporting News Fantasy Football preview? Also, on imdb.com it shows DeMetri Martin as Paul De Podesta?! C'mon! Seriously? That has to be a joke. Is this movie going to be a comedy?
  2. In regards to Ichiro and inside the park HRs, I have heard many of the baseball "pundants" argue that he could hit a lot more HRs (traditional HRs) if he wanted to, but that he doesn't feel that's how he can contribute best to the lineup. I have heard the same thing said about Tony Gwynn Sr. For that reason I'd like to see Ichiro in the HR derby, just to see what type of swing adjustments he would make.
  3. There were a lot of beach balls in the stands at tonight's Brewer game. Which got me wondering, do people ever actually bring beach balls to the beach any more and if so, what do they do with them there? Also, after a few strike outs tonight, I turned to my son and said they should have a sound bite of Monty Burns saying "excellent" every time Mike Burns strikes out a batter. If they had already done this before, or if I missed it earlier in the game I honestly was unaware of it, because the next time he struck someone out, sure enough, there it was - "excellent!" Maybe I missed my calling in life.
  4. 87' was a bit frustrating as well. Start out 13-0, then lose 12 in a row in May.
  5. Would it be ok for Parra to tell the press after the game how much pressure it puts on the pitching staff when the offense only scores one run?
  6. I'm assuming the shadows are getting tricky at Miller Park again since the Cards are struggling so much this inning.
  7. I know that politics and religion are not allowed on this board, but this thread screams it. All I'm going to say is that people are way too overly sensitive.
  8. Oh..yeah. I guess I skimmed the article kind of quickly. Didn't see the mention of Ken Griffy Jr earlier in the article and now also I see he is not referring to Pete Rose.
  9. At the risk of opening up this can of worms again, I just wanted to point out that there is an article in the WSJ (front page of the print edition) regarding ballhawks. It highlights Nick Yohanek (a.k.a. Happy Youngster), but also mentions others. What I find funny about the article is that it gives the full name of some ballplayers (Chris Coghlan, Geoff Jenkins, Adam Dunn, etc) but refers to others only as Mr. (Mr. Griffy, Mr. Rose, etc.). Kind of odd writing. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124700099868207685.html
  10. I completely agree with shelmark. As I have stated in these types of posts in the past, I can't stand the way pitchers are babied in today's game.
  11. I'll also agree that this is probably one of the best times to get in to the market. Not that the market could not test new lows at some point, but assuming you will never time the low perfectly, the market is historically at a pretty good buy point right now. I would also suggest that if your plans are long term that you not try to time market highs and lows and that you don't dabble too much in individual stocks. Stick with mutual funds that offer you greater diversification. Assess the level of risk you are willing to take. Allocate your cash (small cap, large cap, international, fixed, etc) based on your risk tolerance and stick with this allocation for the long term, re-balancing your portfolio as needed.
  12. C'mon tdeggie!...I already have 13-13 and 22
  13. Another one they play is from Bull Durham - "Lollygagers!"
  14. I'm not sure about bald, but Pujols appears to be balding.
  15. 1 vs NYM (0-1) 4 @ CHC (1-3) 3 vs STL (1-2) 3 vs LAD (1-2) 4 @ CIN (2-2) 3 @ PIT (2-1) 3 vs ATL (2-1) 4 vs WSH (3-1) 1 @ SD (1-0) I don't think it looks that brutal - not the 2nd half of the month anyways, but I'm not as optimistic as you. 13-13 Braun - 8HRs, Fielder- 8 HRs, Hoffman - 6 saves = 22
  16. I'm going to stick with Hanson regardless of the fact that pitchers rarely win the award. I think he's just going to keep getting better with every start this year.
  17. I'm not an expert on the addictive nature of pot, but what "The Crew" stated in post #19 of this thread is right on the money. Not "buying the addiction excuse" because he knew what he was risking doesn't make a whole lot of sense. That's why it's called an addiction. Going to rehab is not an automatic cure all. In fact, addictions can't be "cured", they can only be treated. I'll also agree that I'm not sure why marijuana is treated differently than alcohol in this country.
  18. I don't know what I like more about watching Wimbledon - the tennis or the ball boys/girls military like antics.
  19. Yes, I'm going to say that Joe Morgan is more knowledgable about baseball than you, I, or anyone else on this board. Does he believe in Sabermetrics and does he know more about baseball stats than most people. Probably not. That's the crux of many arguments against him. A big part of the reason I fell in love with baseball is because of stats. I still love that part of it. However, it has gotten to the point where some people can't seperate the stats from the game that is actually played on the field. They are two different things. There is not a right or wrong answer for every situation that occurs on the field. People who have played the game at a much higher level than most of us, can understand that much better than we can. If you wanted to get advice on what it takes to survive a journey up and down Mt. Everest would you buy a book from someone who has actually gone through the experience and survived, or someone who has studied Mt. Climbing for years but has never climbed any mountain greater than 10,000 feet? Personally, I would want to read the book from the person who has actually had the experience. Just like I would want my son to get baseball lessons from Joe Morgan and not some sports writer who last played the game in 6th grade but could drone on and on about stats.
  20. Parking Pass has been sold.
  21. Me driving a car doesn't make me an automotive engineer Yes, but if you were a professional race car driver, I would take more stock in what you had to say about car racing than someone who mearly writes about it for a living.
  22. How many professional ball games have Joe Posnanski or Paul White played? I think I'll assume that Harold Reynolds and HOFer Joe Morgan have a little more insight about the game and what actually happens on the field than these guys do.
  23. Desperado? - *GASP!* Shhhhhh.....nobody talk.....it's on right now...shhhhhh
  24. Now if only Scott Boras would step down as a player's agent.
  25. $8 (cost of advanced general parking) if you can pick up at my office down town.
