  1. I guess I'll try to pay more attention to that. Also sometimes, if I'm posting a longer message, I'll copy everything before I post it, in case it gets deleted. It's still annoying that Yuku does not ask you to log in after you hit "Add Reply" instead of after you have already typed out your post. Or, if it's going to ask you to log in after you have typed out your posting, at least have something in place that preserves the posting.
  2. So, I'm at Cost Cutters last night and a father is there with his son, who is getting a hair cut. While the son is getting his hair cut, the father writes out a check. The clerk/hair cutter notices this and points out that as of yesterday Cost Cutter's no longer accepts personal checks. It turns out he had just enough cash on him to pay for the hair cut. He starts talking to me as he waits for his son's hair cut to finish.."Well, I guess we won't be coming here again." I came so close to asking him why he didn't have a check card, or at least an emergency credit card. I just smiled and thought to my self "It's really your fault for not being prepared for this situation". Then, he gets on the phone with his wife and explains the situation and I hear him talk about how he's going to have to go to the bank and cash a check, so that he can replenish his cash supply. This is reason #36 why you should have a check card. So, every time you need cash you have to go cash a check at the bank?! Some people must really not value their free time.
  3. TGJ was always a guy a rooted for, but this was the right decision.
  4. Perhaps this was already mentioned in this thread at one point by someone else, however: Normally when I go to Brewerfan.net it automatically has me logged in. However, sometimes for whatever reason, it doesn't automatically log me in. Not only that, but when it doesn't, it won't tell me until after I've already hammered out a posting. Then it tells me to log in and completely wipes out what I just typed. Urrrgghhhhhh!http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif
  5. Did you ever bring this situation up to the Brewers? If so, what was the result? I would have been completely livid. If you have a pre-paid preferred parking pass (or any prepaid pass), you should get a spot. I'll never understand how they can over sell a lot. The math is really not that complicated: Capacity-presells = number of tickets you can sell that day.
  6. I don't think this is all that rare. I'm guessing you could find other times in ST where a college (or even a junior college team) beat the "major league" team. I put major league in quotes, because I'm not sure if any of those guys in Pittsburghs line up will be on the opening day roster.
  7. Give me similar questions for "Caddyshack" and I'm pretty sure I'd get most of them.
  8. I understand all of that, and I do agree this is a new era with new technology and expectations are different. I was just taking a little stroll down memory lane. I would still suggest, however, if you have never tried it, to turn off the TV and take the radio outside once in a while on a summer evening with maybe a cold beer or soda. It really can be very enjoyable. Sorry, one other story regarding the "old days". In the late 80's my first job out of college was an auditor for a real estate franchise company. My territory included Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas and South Dakota. I remember being out on the road and just dying for any information regarding the Brewers games and how they were doing. Remember this was before the Internet and cell phones. This was also right around when ESPN starting broadcasting baseball games. They actually use to show a lot more games on ESPN than they do now, but it was still rare when they would broadcast a Brewer game. I remember sitting in my car in the hotel parking lot in some small town in the middle of nowhere seeing if I could possibly pick up any weak signal on the radio. I was so eager to get the paper the next day (not only for the Brewers box score, but to keep track of my fantasy team). However, on many occasions the box scores in the local papers would be 2 days old!
  9. I was going to mention something like this as well. Not to sound like an old fogey with the "Back in my day" type comment...but...when I was a kid a large majority of games were not on TV. I remember something like 20 games being on TV, and I know there are people older than me who almost never saw their favorite team play. Now we complain if the games is not in HD. Listening to a game on the radio, especially out on the back porch on a warm summer evening can be very enjoyable. Also, it really made you appreciate the games that you were able to go to and watch. There were some players from other teams that you never saw with the exception of highlights on "This Week in Baseball", or possibly on the "The Game of the Week", or "Monday Night Baseball". Now with games broadcast on the Internet, ESPN, The MLB Network, Extra Innings, and Fox you can watch just about any team at any time. While it's great to have these options, I still believe in absence making the heart grow fonder.
  10. This thread reminds me of a quote from another comedian, Jerry Seinfeld, talking about how women tend to use checks more then men - I think to a man, a check is like a note from your mother that says "I don't have any money, but if you'll contact these people, I'm sure they'll stick up for me... If you just trust me this one time. I don't have any money, but I have these... I wrote on these... Is this of any value at all?"
  11. There is usually an option that states somthing like "remember me on this computer". If you select this, you don't have to answer the security questions every time you log in.
  12. Kind of my point. It's not a simple people in the front of the line move over to the new line and no one get's skipped.
  13. The thread is not getting weird, you are just not following the logic. Think about it. If 2,3, &4 move over then 5 is now 2 in the old line and 4 is now 3 in the new line. So, 5 basically skipped 4. 2, 4, & 6 (or 2, 4, and 5 I guess) moving over is the only way to insure that no one has skipped anyone in front of them. No, I don't think the store clerk should see how has the least items. I don't think the clerk should be a traffic cop. However, if I'm number 2 and I have 15 items and as a new line opens, I look back and see that number 5 or 6 only has 1 or 2 items, the general courtesy would be to let them go ahead of me. edit: Ok...I guess 2,3,5 or 2,3,6 moving over to the new line (in the same order) would work too.
  14. I haven't counted it up, but it feels like there are more people in this thread that are upset about people who write checks, than people who essentially jump in front you in line. It's not so much that I'm more annoyed at check writing than I am line jumping. Line jumping in it's self is a much more heinous act. However, the way it was presented in the first post of this thread is questionable. There are too many different scenarios in that situation. If another line opens and you notice people in front of you making a motion to go over to the new line and you race over to beat them, then yes, that's definitely rude. However, if the people are not paying attention or just look over and seem to not care or have no interest in moving over to the new line (I see this a lot), then I'm sorry buy I'm not going to wait for them. Or, lets say there are 6 people in line and a new line opens then who should move over. In reality 2, 4, and 6 should move over. However, how often do you see this exercised to perfection? Also, what if the 5th and 6th guys have 1 or 2 items and the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th guys all have 10 items or more? I really think the guys with less items should be able to go first, especially if they are paying with cash or check/credit card. Also, in a place like the average grocery store or Wal Mart or Target its nearly impossilble for the 2nd or 3rd person to work their way out of the line and go to the new line. At Walgreens, usually the registers are right across from one another and it's easy for anyone to move over. There is no simple yes or no to the original question of this thread. I don't know if there is too much that angers me more than someone just blatantly skipping in line. Fortunately, I don't see it happen to often. If the situation described in a previous post about the skipping at a golf course happened to me, I would be very vocal and make sure I was heard.
  15. Also, the first HD game will not be until April 24th. You would think they would at least broadcast the first game of the season in HD.
  16. How is paying by check being completely oblivious to the world around them? You are right. It's not. The act alone of writing a check is not rude in itself. As many have pointed out, some people are prepared to write the check and get out of the way and others don't seem to worry at all that they may be holding other people up. I find the later to be true most of the time. Of course, this could all be avoided if everyone would just realize that the check card is our friend and not something to be afraid of.
  17. Exactly. Just like the title of this thread suggests. It's not illegal to be last in one line and?"skip" to the front of a new line, but some people find it rude.? This clip is from my favorite comedian,?Brian Regan. About 3:50 into the clip he talks about people?trying to stuff things into overhead bins on an airplane and towards the end?we talks about protocol for moving sidewalks.?Very funny and very true and very much related to the type of behavior that shows how people can be completely oblivious to the world around them. ???
  18. I don't keep a register and I don't balance my check book. I don't find it necessary any more. Having a major in Accounting, I can't believe I would ever say that. I can go online at any time to see how much cash I have in my account and scan my transactions to make sure no transactions hit my account of which I am unaware. This really eliminates the need to balance a checkbook. I guess my only risk is that the bank records a transaction incorrectly and I don't catch it when I scan my transactions online.
  19. If the person behind me in line has such poor time management skills that my actions bugged him, well that's not my problem. It may not be that people have poor time management. It may be that they spend 40 to 60 hours a week at work and in traffic and running errands and they don't like shopping and they rather get home and relax, enjoy time with the family, etc. than wait in line any longer than is necessary. I'm not just in a hurry for myself, but also to show courtesy for others who may be waiting for me. I've used my check card once in the last five years. If I used it more often, I would need to carry my register with me anyhow so that wouldn't change. Couldn't you just take the receipt and record it when you get home?
  20. This is only the 2nd season I have watched the show. It's become a Monday night tradition with my wife and son. I enjoy watching it with them. However, I will always have a hard time taking the leaps of faith needed to watch this show. A helicopter arrives and quickly whisks away the chemical weapon and transports it back to the company and no one notices or sees this? No one can track down helicopter carrying a huge payload underneath it flying through the sky? Also, the government has very good reason to believe a corporation is in possession of wmds and plans on using them and they respond to this with 3 helicopters?
  21. Again, I still would like someone to explain why they would choose to carry a check book around over a check card. I can't think of any good reason why someone would do this. And sorry, no matter how efficient you are with writing a check, it's not faster than a check card. In many cases (and at the Sentry where we do almost all our grocery shopping) you can scan the card while they are scanning your items. You don't have to wait for the amount and write it on a check, don't have to show ID, don't have to sign anything. FTJ hit it pretty much on the head. Even though you may not be in a hurry, the other people in line may be, and you should be aware of that. When I'm driving home, I realize that if I drive 10mph faster that it's not going to save me that much time. However, when I'm in the fast lane and I'm driving behind someone who has no one in front of them and a line of cars behind them it drives me nuts. Not so much because they are slowing me (and everyone else) down, but because they are so self absorbed and oblivious to their surroundings. Same thing goes with people that walk slowly 3 across down the sidewalk, completely unaware of anyone behind them. Same thing goes with people in line in a grocery store. Just because your a happy go lucky, unaware of your surroundings, never in a hurry type of person, please don't expect the rest of the world to be that way.
  22. Please keep in mind not all of us who have check cards care to use them, and if some youngster gets all worked up because he has to wait an extra fifteen seconds...well sucks to be him. First of all, if you are referring to me as a "youngster", thank you! Secondly, Can I just ask "Why"? That's all I want to know. I have to every thing I can to hold myself back from asking that question every time I see someone writing a check. Why would you choose to carry around a checkbook over a simple piece of plastic that will save you time? I think I'm more annoyed by the fact that the person has chosen to use a checkbook over a check card than I am that it's causing me to wait longer.
  23. I gotta somewhat agree with Tracey Thom. Even if I'm last or second last in line, I might pause briefly to see if the people in front of me are going to move over, but I'm not going to give them a lot of time. The one thing I don't want to happen is some guy strolling towards the checkout lanes to jump in there before any of us. There are other factors too. If I'm last in line but have 3 items and the guy 2 in front of me has a whole cart full of stuff, sorry, I'm definitely going to seize the opportunity to get in front of him. Also, I tend to be a person who likes to move quickly. I'm in the store for a purpose and I want to get in and out as quickly as possible. From my view point, this does not seem to be the objective of most other shoppers. Chances are that 2 or 3 of the people in front of me are going to strike up a conversation, have some issue with a coupon they are trying to use, or engage in some other time wasting activity. I'm a check card person and also get very annoyed at the 4 items the FTJ listed. I know I'm going to be quick. I'm going to swipe my card and go (no waiting for change or signing anything or showing ID) and I'm not going to quibble over something scanning $0.12 higher than what was stated. Written checks are my number one pet peeve in the store. If you have a checking account you should have a check card and you should use it. Exactly
  24. I know this is a late post on this game, but I watched it and had a couple of observations. How many pitches did David Riske throw? 15 to 20..somewhere around there? All but one of them were fastballs, and all the fastballs where between 87-89 mph. I was a little shocked at this. Andrew Jones still looks completely lost at the plate.
  25. Hate to be a glass is half empty kind a guy, but is this the same issue that he had at the end of last year? If so, it's been over 5 months now. It doesn't seem like something that's just going to go away with a little bit of rest.
