  1. I understand that Weeks is a lead off hitter. However, the argument that K's are not important are made in general about all hitters and I don't agree with that. The comment about 100 K's = 1 run was probably "statistically proven" by someone who believes that baseball is played in a vacuum. I can't believe there is anyone out there who watched the Brewers during the stretch run last year and can still tell me that K's are not important. When you see that a pitcher is having a hard time finding the strike zone, yet you have hitter after hitter going up to the plate and showing no discipline and hacking at the first pitch out of the pitcher's hand or you have a one run ball game in the late innings with runners on 2nd and 3rd and less than 2 outs and you have hitters hacking wildly at pitches instead of trying to slap the ball the other way there is no way you are going to convince me that K's are not important. Watching the Brewer complete lack of situational hitting skills last year drove me nuts towards the end of the year.
  2. I don't think any amount of sabermetrics or new age stats will ever convince me that K's are not an important stat. When you have runners in scoring position, would you rather have a guy that will put the ball in play and hopefully either move the runner from 2nd to 3rd or score the runner from 3rd or would you rather have a guy up there that doesn't understand situational hitting and has a good chance of striking out and not moving the runners at all?
  3. Yes, I would take a pay cut to save my job. I would also take a cut to save my friends/coworkers jobs if it were purely a financial issue. If there are some employees who are not producing as much and/or are not as capable as others and the company can save money by cutting these people, I'm not sure I would be willing to take a cut to save their jobs. However, I think this question is purely hypothetical because in just about every case this decision is not going to be left up to the employee to make (unless maybe it's a real small company).
  4. http://images.yuku.com/image/pjpeg/cd1354b89f1b75a2fecf908f19cf0a4ac35ee3e.pjpg Sorry, couldn't find a bigger picture.
  5. Yikes, looks like a touched a nerve. I love baseball more than any other sport and I think it's one of the most misunderstood sports in the world. Heck, I completely understand a pitcher not being able to pitch because they have a blister. I'm not sure that I said that it wasn't physically demanding. But, I'm sorry, other than the fact that it's played every day, it's not nearly as physically demanding as football, basketball, tennis, hockey, horse racing, or many other sports. Yes, there are the diving plays and occasional collisions at home plate. Football players are colliding with other players every single play. Also, yes I might hurt a little after fielding 25 ground balls. But then again, A. I'm 43 and out of shape and B. I don't get paid millions to play baseball. I would hope that a professional athlete who gets paid a good some of money and is there 20's or early 30's would be conditioned well enough to be able to play 15 or 20 games and make an occasional dive or sprint after a ball in the gap or take a few dozens swings of the bat without a great risk of injury.
  6. My son just spent 3 days at Children's hospital in Milwaukee. I can't say enough good things about the people that work at that place and the care that my son received while he was there.
  7. I've heard this argument before and the only part I agree with is the playing every day part. However, it's spring, they just started playing! Shouldn't they be doing some conditioning in the off season? I don't buy the whole "start and stop" thing. I'll agree 100% that it takes more focus than many other sports because of this. I know this first hand from coaching youth baseball. Trying to get kids to understand that just because they have not had a ball hit to them all game does not mean that they should be ready for one to be hit to them and that they should know at all times what the situation is, is not an easy thing to do. However, these are young men who should be in prime physical condition. They do plenty of stretching and core work before and between games. Having to suddenly sprint after a ball hit in the gap should not be an alarm for injury concern. I can understand the concerns later in the season after the toll of playing day in and day out starts wearing on the players, but it's March. How many games have these guys played? 15? 20? They are already starting to break down?
  8. That is very nice. However, if I were to do something like that, I would be hesitant to put actual players on the design in this day and age of free agency and constant player movement. It does appear to be Fielder and not sure who the pitcher is (Sheets - maybe?). Also, c'mon, they went through the trouble of getting that graphic on their truck, but didn't get some type of Brewer or baseball related personalized license?
  9. I've actually been a member at Whitnall for several years, but never did any of the events because I don't have time and I enjoy golfing with my friends who, for whatever reason, don't have an interest in joining on of the men's clubs in Milwaukee. The only reason I joined the men's club every year was so that I could participate in the Milwaukee Public Links tourney every August.
  10. The WBC is going through some growing pains. It's going to take some time to iron some of the issues out. I don't agree with having one of the rounds in Miami. I understand it somewhat from an international view point. However, given the ridiculously low attendance of some Marlin's games, I find it odd that they chose that location. One radical idea would be Miller Park. I know that it would probably never be considered, but I'm guessing that they would get some pretty good attendance at those games. In regards to Braun and injuries to other players. As someone who seems to be constantly defending the sport I love to others (Steroids issue, past labor issues, crazy contracts, sore finger injuries, excitement compared to football or basketball, etc.), this really annoys me. I'm hearing the guys on XM radio talk about how these players are not use to playing a full 9 innings at this level, this early in the year and that's why we are seeing some of these injuries. Come on. Even I can't blame other sports fans of laughing at baseball over this. Baseball is not that physically demanding compared to other sports. You stand out there and possibly field between 3 and 10 balls during the game depending on where you play and then you have 4 or 5 ABs. This is causing injuries? I can see the argument for pitchers at this point in the season, but position players? Give me a break.
  11. I didn't realize that it had been a year and a half. I guess it's plausible that you would let down your guard a little after that much time has passed.
  12. I'm not sure what to make of Japan and Korea playing exhibition games between pool play series. Can you imagine a World Seires team playing an exhibition game while they wait for another League Championship series to end? I guess it doesn't hurt anything. It' just seems odd.
  13. If this is on ongoing "prank war", wouldn't you constantly be suspicious of everything if you were involved? Wouldn't you be suspicious of why you are being filmed filling out forms for a half-time half court shot contest?
  14. Ok, I'll admit, I did not know this. I always thought it was "for all intensive puposes".
  15. That game last night was a lot of fun to watch. I also watched a little bit of the Cuba/Australia game afterwards. It looks like that was an unexpectedly close game too. The first pitcher for Cuba (Chapman) was nasty - and only 21 yrs old.
  16. As far as I know, it's "flipped me off"......never heard the term "flicked me off"? edit: This made me think of something else. If you grew up in SE WI when ATM's first came out, they were widley known around Milwaukee as Tyme machines. I still refer to them as tyme machines and if I ask someone in the local area where a tyme machine is they know exactly what I'm talking about. However, I always have to remind myself when I'm traveling that this is not a common term else where and how funny it would be to go up to someone and ask where the "tyme machine" is.
  17. Awesome!....thanks foster! Edit: These game systems typically come with only one controller....correct?
  18. I just noticed this thread. When I was a kid, I tried to find a necklace that looked like the one George Scott use to wear.
  19. DiFelice got some help from his defense but pitched a very strong 4 innings against Venezuela
  20. Actually, I've heard these rumors as well. I think the recent thought is because of the economy, Sony will need to do something with pricing. I'm hearing possibly after the end of their fiscal year (which I believe is March 31st). I also saw the Sony credit card deal. I'm giving serious thought to doing that.
  21. I like the fact that the Brewers have Nixon, Duffy, and Nelson as OF bench options. I think all three have a lot to offer off the bench and at least 2 of these 3 should make the roster. McGehee certainly has been making a case for a roster spot.
  22. Thanks for the info Jim. Actually, I was thinking about subscribing to Pecota because I could not find the projections on fantasy 411. In fact I even emailed them to ask them if they were doing the projections this year. Thanks to your post, I see that I overlooked them and it was posted on March 4th. I'll probably just use that again this year.
