  1. I found this old thread regarding PS3. Figured I'd tack my questions on to this. My son has PS2 and was really geared up for MLB 09 the show. I gave it to him as an early b-day gift last night. We was very excited. However, I could sense his excitment wane as he realized that a lot of the advertised features of the game are apparently only available on PS3. Recently I noticed the wall for PS2 games at gamestop has shrunken considerably and I'm becoming aware that they may stop making games for PS2 all together in the near future. As much as I resisted doing this, I'm thinking about biting the bullet and purchasing a PS3 system for my son for his b-day even though it's more than what I would normally spend for a b-day gift and I'm astounded at the prices for PS3 games. I've heard various stories regarding backwards compatibility for PS3. My understanding is that Sony stopped making backwards compatible PS3 about a year or so ago and that only the 20G systems are backwards compatible. I hear that they did this because of cost. However, I also heard that the processor that made the system backwards compatible caused the system to get very heated and not perform as well: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art10714.asp. Is there any truth to this? Am I better off just getting a 60G or 80G PS3 and have my son switch between PS2 and PS3 depending on what games he wants to play? If I do this, is there any way to plug both the games into the TV using some switch to go back and forth between the systems? Also, I find that shopping for PS3 is very confusing. I found prices all over the board. To me it would seem that the 120G would cost more than the 80G and the 80G would cost more than the 60G and so on. But, this does not seem to be the case. I would prefer to by new and I don't need a bundle...I just want the console. What prices should I expect to pay and what suggestions does anyone have regarding what system would be best to buy 20?, 40?, 60?, 80?, 120?. I'm not even sure if all these options are available or if I may even be missing one. Thanks for any help on this.
  2. I'm thinking about subscribing to baseball prospectus in order to get the Pecota projections. However, in looking at the site. It appears you can get "cards" for individual players, teams, and by positions. I'm assuming others here subscribe to this site. As a subscriber, is there an easy way to download all players from one league (i.e. National League) to an excel spreadsheet? Also, I would prefer to focus on players who have a chance to play this year and not, for example, a 19 year old A ball player who won't get ML ab's until 2010 or 2011.
  3. Lack of etiquette in use of foul language in public around small children. Especially among college age males. I don't understand the constant need to refer to just about everything using an "f-bomb" adjective. My wife and I were sitting with our 10 year old son next to a group of college age boys (I call them boys and not men, because that is the way the acted) at the Brewers game in Scottsdale the other day. It astounded me the number of f-bombs that were peppered in their conversation. Not that my son has never heard this type of language before, but there were several other younger kids in the area as well. I never felt the need to consistently swear when I was in college and I can't recall any of my friends at the time having this need either. In fact I remember feeling very conscious about how I spoke in a public setting, not only around children but around older adults as well. My wife pointed out that she remembered being in high school and talking like that to be "cool", but then got past that stage. She was right. They sounded like a bunch of immature high school boys and not college age students. This is not the only time I have noticed this among this age group. I'll swear occasionally, especially when I'm angry about something, but I don't understand the general usage of this type of language in every day conversations. To me it shows complete disrespect for others when this is done in public (with the exception of maybe a bar).
  4. Ugghhh!!. I hate it when I type out a post and then hit "post" and it tells me to sign in and it doesn't save my post!! Anyways, just got back from our 7th straight trip down do Phoenix for spring training. A few thoughts. - Might be my imagination, but surely seems to be more Brewer fans than 6 or 7 years ago. It was especially noticeable at the March first Brewers/Giants game in Scottsdale. - We usually arrive on Saturday and leave on Friday, so the only weekend game we go to is on a Sunday. This year we went Thurs - Weds. Much bigger crowds on weekends. More locals and college kids. I hate crowds. I realize that Spring training is a more relaxed social atmosphere, but I thought the economy was bad. How can people(particularly college students) afford to pay for parking admission and overpriced beer and spend the whole game socializing and maybe catching 4 or 5 ABs of the game? Why not just go to a bar? - I love driving in Phoenix. There are so many options to get to different places and most of the main side roads are wide with plenty of lanes. However, I don't like the new DOT speed cameras on the free way. How do these things work? Is there a threshold? If I'm doing 70 in a 65 will it send me a ticket? If so, I'm in trouble. I will say that I noticed a considerable difference in the speeds on the free way, so it appears to accomplishing it's objective. Edit: Oh...and my son got the Casey McGehee HR ball from the March 3rd game vs. Colorado! He was pretty excited.
  5. I was at the Brewers/A's game as well. Sat in the front row in front of the Brewers Bullpen. I thought Swindle was just goofing around when he was throwing his "changeup" (actually looked like a curveball that you try to throw in your back yard when your a kid). That's actually one of his pitches?? We watched Chase Wright warm up, but left before he pitched in the game. Marcus Hanel was warming him up in the bullpen and was urging him to put something more on his fastball. He indicated that he was giving everything he had. It was an interesting exchange to watch and Wright looked like he was laboring as he warmed up (almost as if he was injured). I was at the game today. It was a little concerning not knowing why Looper didn't start after seeing him warm up. Read TH's blog. Hope it turns out not to be anything too serious.
  6. Yeah, I'm reading Joe Torre's new book and they talk about this. It's really very interesting
  7. I thought it was the worst episode of the year. I found myself rolling my eyes a lot. Again, I'll submit, if the entire program is based on the premise that things happen in real time..then they really take a lot of liberties with that. Sean shoots himself in the arm. Jack breaks in. A few minutes later, they cut to a commercial. Comes out of commercial and Sean is putting a shirt on about after having his arm bandaged up from taking a gun shot wound! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif Also, I think it took less than 10 minutes for the computer chip in Dubaku's body (by the way..come on) to go from Jack to the Helicopter pilot to Clohe's hands. I'd enjoy the show more if they didn't call it 24, and instead called it Bauer, or something like that, and stopped with the whole attempt at the real time thing.
  8. DRM free?
  9. Ohhhh...I'm am sooo mad with Orbitz! I booked a reservation to AZ way back in September. In December, I moved the reservation back a week. Every time I have looked at my reservation it stated that my seats on the way to AZ are confirmed. I got an email yesterday from Obitz again stating that my seats to AZ are confirmed but the seats on the way back are pending approval from the airline. So, I call US Airways to see if I could confirm the seats on the way back. They were able to do this, but then they also informed me that my seats on the way to AZ are not confirmed and that they currently do not have 3 seats together. All they could suggest is for me to call tomorrow (24 hours prior to the flight) and try to get the bulkhead seats. So I called Orbits and ranted. They stated that because I changed my reservation in December it wiped out my seat requests and for some reason this did not sync on my new reservation and still showed that the seats were confirmed. After a lot of ranting, they did offer me a $50 voucher on a future flight.....but I'm still very, very upset.
  10. I'm not a frequent purchaser of online music. However, occasionally there is a song or two that I would like to download. Is Itunes the best site? What are some other sites that are good?
  11. In December I had a technician out at the house. He had to replace the cable that ran from the house to the cable box and stated that someone would come out in the spring to bury it. I was not happy about this, because if I'm correct, this will end up being a nightmare where I'm cutting the grass around this cable for the entire summer until they finally show up in late August. I just called to make sure that something was scheduled on my account (Didn't want to find out in May that no one scheduled anything). I was told that they don't start scheduling cable burials until May 30th. This really upset me, so I asked to speak to a supervisor who told me that they will start burials before May 30th weather permitting and that people who could not get there lines buried in the Winter are first in line. I'm dreading the anticipated phone calls back and forth to Time Warner to try to get this done. Just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with this before and how did it turn out for you.
  12. From Antanasio's comments in the paper this morning regarding his concerns about the payroll, it doesn't seem likely that the Brewers will be making any additional acquisitions before the season starts. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/39798682.html
  13. I think it's more exciting now that many of the games will be broadcast on MLB network (if I'm not mistaken). Ideally, I'd like to see it played in November. However, I don't think the players union is a big fan of that and I think there is more excitement surrounding it in the Spring when everyone is starving for baseball. I do think the qualification of who plays for what team is crazy (i.e. Rottino, DiFelice). I know our resident Italian poster (Kalle8) won't agree, but I still think it should be done similar to the Little League WS with possibly 4 regions of the US represented along with multiple teams from the Asian and Latin countries.
  14. I would guess that those guys will leave before March 1st though. Im thinking since I will be there on the 27th I will see no Braun. Any word on if Gallardo got the insurance thing setelld to play for Mexico?Actually, I don't read it that way. It states they will "gather on March 1st". Although, I could see Braun leaving to travel on the 28th.
  15. It's your sweet, sweet voice that I long to hear, Now please shut up and go get me a beer. Is that my dear sweet love right in front of me? Kindly move your ***, your blocking the TV.
  16. See posts 55-60ish. Except for the rare occasion (possibly a Cubs or SF game), you shouldn't have problems getting tickets
  17. I don't understand twitter at all. So, what is it? From what I can see, it seems like bloggers use it to give condensed versions of their blog. If that's true, I still don't get it. Why not just go to the blog and read the headlines of each posting?
  18. Nevermind...found an answer. At least for the U.S team. It's in this article: http://web.worldbaseballc...amp;vkey=wbc&team=atl The U.S. team will gather in Clearwater, Fla., on March 1 and play the first of three exhibition games two days later. Also...sorry for the double post in two different threads. Seemed like an appropriate topic for both threads.

  20. This was brought up in the ST travel thread and I'm wondering if maybe it can be answered here. It's in regards to team practice for the WBC. Do players practice with the team in advance of the first game? If so, where to they practice? How far in advance do they begin practice?
  21. I was curious about this as well. We will be down there Feb 26th - March 4th. I know the US has it's first game on the 7th and Mexico has it's first game on the 8th. However, do players practice with the team before that? If so, where to they practice? Maybe this is a better question for the WBC thread.
  22. This was actually the conversation I was trying to start in this thread: http://brewersfandemonium...ku.com?topic=17452?page=1 ..but then it turned into a conversation about Gallardo's slot in the rotation.
