  1. The Ripken show on XM is not really dedicated to youth baseball. Occasionally on their show they discuss it.
  2. So, how do these time outs work? You tell the kid time out and he goes and sits quietly for the duration of the time out? I heard of this strategy, but never tried it on my kid when he was that age. If my kid was throwing one of his tantrums, there was no way he was going to cooperate with a time out. I wished it was that easy. My only advice, and I'm not claiming to be a perfect parent by any means, would be to try to exercise as much patience as possible, remain calm, and realize that they will grow out of that stage before too long.
  3. Is that Gene Hackman? What movie is it from?
  4. I would love to see them have a one hour weekly (or more) program dedicated to youth baseball instruction. Maybe have guys like the Ripken brothers on there - or other guest MLB players. Similar to the golf channel and their instructional programs - only geared towards kids. Or even just a show that discusses baseball strategy. I'll be disappointed if it's mainly just a continual loop of baseball news that recaps games from the previous day. There is so much they could do to appease every type of baseball fan. I hope they don't blow it.
  5. I'm not a hunter, but I was talking to someone who is. He was talking about how he was hunting in a "earn a buck" area, where you have to bag a doe before you can start shooting at bucks. Well, the first thing he saw was a buck and was frustrated that he could not make a shot at it. Another guy in the conversation joked that he should have shot the buck and transported it to an area that is not a "earn a buck" zone. He stated he would never do anything to violate the hunting laws because of all the power the DNR has. He started telling me about someone he knew that got his car taken away, was fined, and almost got prison time for shooting a deer out of his car. I realize that shooting wildlife from your car is very objectionable. However, it kills me that the DNR has that kind of power over a first time wildlife offender and yet people that endanger human lives by continuously driving drunk are allowed to basically get off with a slap on the wrist.
  6. Wow, this seems to be a long thread and a lot of discussion for a player who chances of getting traded are not very high at all. It sounds to me like the Padres are willing to trade anyone. However, it also sound to me like they are not shopping Peavey and will only consider offers for him if they involve talks with a GM from another team that has lost his mind. edit: Ok, never mind, my mistake. Didn't read through all the posts thouroughly or the "Off-season trade market" thread. Didn't realize that the Padres actually have stated what they want in return for Peavey. I still think that if they do trade him, the team getting him will probably end up giving up too much.
  7. With today's financial picture in baseball, I would agree that that the number one job of a manager today is to manage the egos and temperments of a clubhouse full of players who all (or, at least a large majority) make more than you. Gaining the respect of players, getting them all on the same page, and making them buy into the concept of team above themselves and their individual financial futures is key.
  8. This probably belongs in the "What's NOT bugging you", but it's in relation to my previous post in this thread (# 1628). It appears that the commercial they are running now refer to the movie as just "Zack and Miri" and that the commercial is much less suggestive than the initial commercial they were running. I'm assuming this was in response to several complaints. It's safe to watch the playoffs again with my son.
  9. I'm sure this list for any GM would be full of pretty good players. Just like the list of players not drafted or players not traded for.
  10. That's not that much different than the NFL network...right? I'm just hoping they show a lot of classic games, like ESPN classic use to do. Oh, and by classic, I don't mean Game 3 of the 2006 World Series or something like that. I'm talking about games from 70's and 80's, or earlier.
  11. Actually, the schedule this year may not be as full as previous years. From Springtrainingonline.com: Also, I would tend to differ about the stadium not mattering one bit. Our family likes to sit out in the OF berm (spl?) when we go to games. Not all venues have this (Oakland for example...if I'm not mistaken).
  12. Are you saying this to bait me? If you took part in the "Brewers moving ST to Florida?" thread, you know my thoughts on this. I'm not aware of any team that has released their ST schedule yet.
  13. My son and I refer to anyone who eases up on a fly ball that it appears they may have been able to catch as "Gabe Grossing" it. It all stems from this 1st inning in a game we went to against the Cubs in August of 2006. CUBS 1ST: Pierre flied to left; Izturis grounded out (first to pitcher); Barrett doubled to center; Ramirez singled to center [barrett scored, Ramirez to second (on throw)]; Jones homered [Ramirez scored]; Murton singled to left; Mabry homered [Murton scored]; Cedeno flied to left; 5 R, 5 H, 0 E, 0 LOB. Cubs 5, Brewers 0. My son (8 years old at the time), went ballistic because Gross was playing CF and seemed to not give his "full effort" on the Ramirez single to center. Which, as you can see, ended up contributing to an early 5-0 Cubs lead. My son was already in bed last night when that single dropped in front of Gross in the bottom of the 7th, but he would have had a field day with it.
  14. Without the Brewers being in the playoffs at this point, I'm watching with the hope of seeing exciting games with dramatic finishes. I got that last night. It was fun to watch. Yes, I'm somewhat rooting for TB vs. Philly and then Philly to win the WS. However, if it ends up being Boston vs. Philly and Boston winning the WS, I'm not going to be heartbroken or be overly upset. Other than the Brewers, I really don't have any deep attachment or resentment towards (including the Cubs) any other team. I just want to see close, entertaining games.
  15. I had a post written that got eaten by Yuku. However, my experience from past years is that the Brewers are very erratic about when they release their ST schedule. Sometime it's already out by now, other times it does not get released until late November. I'm ticked at myself because I already booked my package for ST next year because, my past experience taught me that I can usually save money by booking early. Not this year. I think I could have saved about $500 if I waited until now. Not to mention, I really wanted to book my vacation from Feb 26th - March 4th, but I was worried they would not be playing games yet because of the season starting later than usual next year. So I booked March 5th - March 11th. Turns out they are starting ST games on Feb 26th because of the World Baseball Classic and will have a lot more open dates in the ST schedule. I like to use this site to check for schedules: http://www.springtraining....com/teams/la_dodgers.htm Sometimes other teams release their schedules prior to the Brewers and you can piece together some of the Brewer's' schedule using the other team's' schedules.
  16. It's really annoying to be watching the playoffs with my 10 year old when they keep playing the "porno" commercial. It's bad enough to have to sit through all the ED medication commercials, now this? Yeah, my son is getting older and starting to understand these things a little, but it's not something I really need thrown in our faces as we are trying to watch a game together. At least it appears that I'm not the only one bothered by it: http://movies.msn.com/movies/article.aspx/?news=334775&GT1=28101
  17. That's it! Thanks valpocrewsader. That was a pretty high budget video. How did that song ever make it into American sports venues?
  18. I think it's red and blue. I was wondering the same thing myself. Actually, I was wondering if it was a mouthpiece at all, since he doesn't really seem to "wear" it. He just flips it around in his mouth more than anything.
  19. I have been kind of surprised that there has not been any thread set up as a general discussion regarding the playoffs (If there is one and I missed it, feel free to merge). Maybe people are so depressed that the Brewers got knocked out early, that they are not following it. If so, it's too bad, because there have been some really good games. I have really enjoyed watching the Philly/LA series. Most of the games thus far have been exciting and everything that you would want in a postseason competition. The Saturday Boston/TB game was incredible. With the Brewers being in the NL and the fact that I participate in an NL only fantasy league, I don't usually follow the AL too closely. The more I watch TB, the more impressed I am with them and it's scary how long they could be competitive (although they will always have to compete against the NY and BOS payrolls). They have a great mixture of speed and power. They are young and seem to show very little signs of postseason pressure. If I'm not mistaken, I think they made their first error in the postseason in last night's game. I really hope the fans in the TB area start to realize what they have and that ticket sales go up next year, because this team is too exciting to be playing in front of a more than half empty stadium every night.
  20. I can't get enough of those E*TRADE baby commercials. I laugh every time I see one. Hope they continue to make more.
  21. I'd rather sign Hardy to a LT contract and trade Escobar. Hardy is proven, Escobar is not. I'm not really understanding why everyone is so eager to show Hardy the door, so that there is an opening for Escobar. If we can find a different position for one of them to play, great, but if not..keep Hardy, without a doubt.
  22. Yeah, I agree that is a great song and montage. Actually what I am looking for seems to be a common song played at sporting events and from what little I have heard of it, does not seem to have words. It's synthesizer type music.
  23. Ok, if anyone is watching the playoffs. One of the songs that I have been trying to figure out seems to be played at Dodger Stadium whenever the Dodger's hit a HR. If you just saw Casey Blake hit his go ahead HR for the Dodgers, they played it as he was circling the bases. I've heard this song at Miller Park. I've heard it as a lead in for sports talk shows. It's driving me nuts. Anyone know what this song is??
  24. Good letter. He kind of paraphrased Torres' quote. I prefer the original "You CAN wait no more"
  25. Sorry, I'm a little slow, didn't get that one. Is it a Blues Brothers reference or "The Band" with Robbie Robertson and company?
