  1. The 10 day (and even 25 day on Accuweather) does not show much hope. Looks like next week might be a repeat of this week!! I'm getting very tired of it. It's really causing headaches for the High School spring sports schedules.
  2. The increasingly stupid and inane security questions that are asked when registering for web sites. I have to register for a lot of different vendor web sites for my work. Had to do one today and these were the quesitons: 1) What is your Mother's Maiden Name? 2) What is your favorite animal? 3) What city were you born in? 4) What was your favorite childhood toy? 1 & 3 are legitimate, but who wrote 2 and 4...a 5 year old? What adult has a favorite animal? You had to answer all 4 of these questions and they gave you no other options. I tried answering all of them the same, but they would not except that. Ugghhh!
  3. So basically, LA is paying over $10 million for Ramon Hernandez?!? Wow, must be nice to have money to burn. I question that they really had this hard of a time getting rid of Aaron Harang. The Cubs agreed to pay Scott Feldmen $6mil a year as a FA, but no one wants to pay a dime for Harang? I don't get it.
  4. Some have argued for an automated strike/ball call. However, I feel if they did this and calibrated it to the strike zone as defined by MLB rules hitters and pitchers would have a lot of adjusting to do, especially when it comes to the upper part of the strike zone: Rule 2.00: The Strike Zone The STRIKE ZONE is that area over home plate the upper limit of which is a horizontal line at the midpoint between the top of the shoulders and the top of the uniform pants, and the lower level is a line at the hollow beneath the kneecap. The Strike Zone shall be determined from the batter's stance as the batter is prepared to swing at a pitched ball. From what I observe, it seems that umpires rarely call anything that is two inches or more above the belt line a strike. By this definition the upper line of the strike zone would fall roughly just below the letters.
  5. Most of the time I find myself bored with the manager press conferences as I find it to be mostly just rehashing what I just watched. Typical quotes from these press conferences: "I thought 'insert pitcher's name here' threw very well (regardless of what the outcome was). He missed his spot on the pitch to 'insert player on opposing team that hit a HR'" "'Insert Brewer player here' is hitting the ball hard, just right at people. I'm not worried about him at all" "Yeah, he tweaked it. We'll take a look at it and see how he feels tomorrow" Roenicke (and most managers) never comes out and says something like "Well it obvious he's struggling and we will need to look at replacing him in the linup (or in the rotation)" Never any "stop the presses" news
  6. I'm guessing Lenny is referring to the home radio broadcast of Brewer games? I'm thinking they have limited time to wrap up the post game and return to the regular radio station broadcast.
  7. Heard "This Is It" by Kenny Loggins on the radio the other day and it reminded me of the opening theme song to the NCAA tourney back in the early 80's. Kind of "cheesy" by today's standards, but I loved it as a kid (long video, but the opening is what I'm talking about):
  8. I understand. I know there are freak injuries that are going to happen regardless of the amount of stretching that is done. Gamel's injury from last year is a perfect example. However, my understanding is that he re-injured it on the first day of Spring Training this year because of stretches he was making at 1b during drills. I was a little bothered by that. Didn't he stretch and test his knee in the off season? Also, how did Ramirez initially injure his knee in ST this year and what has he been doing to take care of it since then? I didn't think the slide into 2nd base looked overly jarring last week and my thought was if he got injured by that slide, it was just a matter of time before he injured it some other way.
  9. I'm not sure why you think this is such a far fetched idea. Why do you think athletes stretch and run before games?...because it's an enjoyable activity? because they are just trying to kill time? It wasn't 5 or 6 last Tuesday. It was 3, maybe 4 (I think one player came out after 3 had been stretching for a while). Also, You don't think it looks bad when one team has all of their players out there and the other has a fraction..every home game? If they are doing stretching inside somewhere, fine...I just don't get it. You certainly can not do the wind sprints inside that you can do outside. It's something that has been happening for... oh... 40 years, give or take. Uh..no. I'm 47. I have been going to games for 40 years. I have been a 20 game season ticket holder for 20 years (well 13 game when the Brewer were still at County stadium). I know that the Brewers use to pretty much have their entire starting lineup out there before every game (as little as 2 or 3 years ago) and they would also have 2 or 4 guys pairing up doing throws in front of the dugout just before the game as well.
  10. I knew someone would have a "roll eyes" response like this to my post (in this era where some actually want PEDs to be legalized...I'll roll my eyes at that). But..you don't find anything odd about that? I wish I had taken a picture last Tuesday. It looked really bad. Colorado had 9 or 10 guys out on the 3rd base line stretching and doing sprints. The Brewers had 3. This seems to be common for every home game. I'm pretty sure this was not the case 3+ years ago. I don't know how that's "nit picking".
  11. My son and I have noticed something before games over the last couple of years and again have noticed it this year for the 2 games we attended this last week...About 15-20 minutes before the game the visiting team has almost everyone out on the 3rd base line doing stretching and running. However, the Brewers usually just have a handful on the first base line. Last Tuesday I think the Brewers had 3 or 4 guys out there. We thought it looked really bad. On Saturday they may have had 5. Is this becoming a trend for a home team? Are they in the tunnels taking extra BP or doing stretching in there (seems like it would be better to stretch and run sprints outside, especially when you have a roof)? Like I said, seemed to have noticed it more over the last few years.
  12. Agreed. It's one thing to call for a bunt with a runner at first and the defense possibly not ready for it. After Aoki was at 2B and the defense knew what was up, seemed silly. So what if they knew? There are lots of instances where the defense knows, but you can still execute. Gomez just did a horrible job. Square around and bunt...don't try to get a "head start" out of the box.
  13. Lucroy!! I'd be so upset if I was the Putz. That 5th pitch was strike 3.
  14. Love the bunt attempts. Hate that Gomez does not understand the difference between a sac bunt and bunting for a hit.
  15. A few interesting items I have noticed in this first week: - Only one undefeated (and one winless) team after 3 games in MLB. Be interesting to find out the last time that happened. - Roy Halliday did not have a very good first outing. However, I found it interesting that 9 of the 10 outs he was able to record before being removed were strikeouts. edit: Also, and I know this is not a MLB item but I could not find a random news thread in the minors forum (and did not want to start one), but anyone catch Cincinnati minor league pitcher Tony Cingrani's performance last night? 14 Ks in 6 innings!
  16. I understand some of the dislike of Selig expressed my many. However, don't forget, without Selig there is likely no current MLB team in Milwaukee, and obviously no Miller Park or Brewerfan.net
  17. Maybe I missed it, but I'm surprised no one mentioned getting rid off or relaxing some of the crazy telecast blackout restrictions that are currently in place. Also, really...all field dimensions be the same in every stadium? You mean like the ugly cookie cutter stadiums from the 60's and 70's? Maybe you don't need hills and flagpoles on the field, but I think having different field dimensions is unique to baseball and one of the things that separates it from basketball or football.
  18. I really like Axford's character and from what I have seen in interviews he's a good guy. I feel bad for what he is going through on the mound. It's painful to watch. I don't understand the boos. This isn't like a guy who is not putting forth effort or even a hitter who continues to show no patience at the plate and consistently swings at bad pitches. He's not trying to have bad location on his pitches, it's just happening. Having said all of that, the hook has to be quick this year. He clearly had nothing last night. Next time out he may go 1-2-3, but you can't have that kind of inconsistency from your closer. He really has not caused any Brewer losses yet, but my hope is that the Brewers don't wait around until he has blown 4 or 5 games before they make a move. My problem is that I'm not really a Henderson believer (although, I think he would probably be a better option than Axford at this point) and I don't really see any other real closer candidates on the roster at this point.
  19. Not sure if this is directed at a comment by anyone in particular. However, when I stated that she must have a pretty understanding husband, it really wasn't based on her being a woman. If I came home one day, kids or no kids, and told my wife that I purchased a single seat 40 game plan for the Brewers my wife probably would not be very happy about that and would wonder if I was going through some sort of personal crisis.
  20. This is my biggest issue with Front Row Amy and I am a 30 year old guy. Hot chick for sure but I heard she lives in Oshkosh, which isn't exactly Wauwatosa or even Delafield, so that means to be there by first pitch she is leaving at 5ish and not getting home until after 11. Seems like a huge chunk of your kids lives are being missed. She goes to about 40 games a year, not all of them. She's with them every other day of the year. I really don't see an issue with that at all. Pretty sure she's home with them all the time other then when she goes to games based on what I've read, so I don't really see why it's a big deal. Do you have kids? Just curious.
  21. No, that one game was lost largely because of how Gallardo pitched. I'm trying to wrap my head around this conversation...maybe I missed something. Didn't they win the game that Gallardo pitched? Do you guys mean Estrada or Peralta?
  22. The wonder of modern television and the internet. Last night I got home from work and had the house to myself (very rare). Turned on the TV and ran across an old Rolling Stones concert on Paladia. Left it on as I was doing some chores around the house. As I glanced at the TV at one point I noticed Jagger wearing a t-shirt and the front of it was blurred out. I became curious about why it was blurred out. I hit the guide which told me that this was a concert in Fort Worth, Texas in 1978. I then went to the internet and typed in "Mick Jagger t-shirt, Fort Worth, Texas concert 1978" and was able to find links and pictures including a blog where there was a discussion of the topic. I won't get into what was on it because I don't want to turn this in to some political discussion, but I had to stop and think about how A) How cool it was that there was a 1978 Rolling Stone concert on TV at 5pm, B) How cool it was that I was able to hit a button to tell me when and where the concert took place and C) How cool it was that I was able to instantly get trivial information about this concert on the internet. None of this would have been available 20 or 30 years ago. Now...I could easily post something in "What's bugging you" about modern TV and the internet, but in this instance I was very happy with these two modern "conveniences".
  23. The first thing I would do is to have these people reported for treason.
  24. The only thing I'll add about front row Amy, and this may sound a bit judgemental, but......my understanding is that she lives in Oshkosh and is married with kids (younger kids if I'm not mistaken), but she goes to all of these games by herself. That is quite the understanding husband she has.
  25. Well, if there is no risk then it should be easy for the players to own and run their own teams. Geez a no risk investment...you think a guy like Buffet or Gates would be all over that. If there wasn't a risk you'd have 100+ potential investors every time a team goes up for sale. There is risk in every investment.
