  1. What's the rush? His defense is awful. But it is looking like his bat is too advanced to be in rookie ball. And he can't really go to Wisconsin. He can work on defense in Florida where the field conditions are generally better than the Pioneer League.
  2. Enough is enough. Time for Erceg to go to Brevard.
  3. Great post, CWH. Thanks. I haven't given up on Coulter at all. He'll be hitting AA next year as a 23 year old, which is a little older than you'd like for a premium prospect, but he's still a young guy. It's difficult to say how much the FSL is holding him down. We'll find out soon enough. I do disagree with the Stokes being "limited to LF/RF" thing. He's played corners for the most part thus far because he's been on the same team as Harrison and Clark. The Brewers understandably have given priority to developing them in center over Stokes. I haven't seen much of Stokes defensively, but my understanding is that he can handle CF just fine, albeit with a below average arm. He's a better defender in CF than Michael Reed.
  4. Zach Clark making his pro debut as a DH in tonight's Baby Brewers game. Corbin Burnes might not be long for Wisconsin. His advanced stuff is probably more suited to Brevard, or possibly Biloxi. Gabriel Garcia is a monster. Very early leader for find of the 2016 draft class. Too bad he's apparently not a catcher.
  5. Brewers sign 25th-rounder Blake Lillis. Total now at 38 of 41 picks signed. That's unbelievable.
  6. No word on Crow, and I hope I'm wrong and they do sign both. They've already signed at least a half dozen more guys than I thought they would, so it's all cake at this point.
  7. My guess is that: A) Is every last penny they had short of being penalized a pick; and, B) They had a deal with Crow that fell through, and they were able to convince Lillis to sign for the same amount.
  8. He has had two years and a few months of service as a reliever prior to this season. That's about a year in, and a year out. Not quite a pattern yet. He's been successful in that stint, though 150+ games pitched from 2014-2015 is a red flag for me. As is his decreased velocity and steep drop in K rate so far this season.
  9. They can sign Crow, as long as he's willing to take $100k.
  10. I believe the point was, it is difficult to predict on a year to year basis how a reliever is going to perform. There are only a handful of relievers in MLB who I would more or less pencil in to be good year in, year out. And I don't believe the Brewers have any of them. That's why they should seriously consider selling on Thornburg, Smith, and Jeffress. Going with your 2012 example, Axford had two very good years preceding his melt down that year. K-Rod the same. Relievers are fickle.
  11. I think which scouts were there would be more telling than how many. If Ryan Thompson, Cory Melvin, and Taylor Green were there, who knows what they were looking at. If Zack Minasian and Dick Groch were there, that might be smoke.
  12. The Brewers are just trying to one-up themselves after drafting Jose Gomez.
  13. One more pitcher to add to the pile. This brings the 40-man roster back to capacity. He's out of options after this season. Career stats.
  14. Is that obvious? I don't think Boras' big mouth needs any provocation.
  15. Another new DSL player: RF Melvin Mendez.
  16. It also could have been a question of the big league coaching staff wanting to get a closer look at him to see if he'd be a feasible fit at first if/when Carter is traded.
  17. Tangible benefit from a team improvement standpoint? None. Though on the flip side of that, the negative impact is also negligible. They might have to smooth things over by giving Davies an extra $25k next year, but that's a drop in the bucket from a payroll standpoint. It's not nothing, but it's just barely not nothing to the Brewers. Tangible benefit to Andy Wilkins? MLB pension. There's something to be said for apparently going out of their way to give off the field benefits to a guy that may or may not have been given another chance to play in the big leagues and accrue service time.
  18. If my math is correct, if Wilkins gets 14 days of service time this season, he will qualify for the MLB pension. If they decide to start Davies on the 19th (after an off day) that, I believe, would give him his 14 days. If my math is correct, Baldkin's post was the 300,000th on the Major League forum. You win nothing.
  19. Zach Davies: "And they optioned me first?"
  20. Little surprised Diplan didn't sneak into the lower reaches.
  21. Agreed that it makes some sense for the Brewers to claim LaMarre, ala their claim of Nolin after the Khris Davis trade. It might depend on how well he's able to handle CF, though.
  22. The Brewers were paying Hill's full contract. Arizona sent the Brewers money to defray that cost, but the Brewers could do with the cash what they wanted to. There was no obligation for the Brewers to put the money Arizona sent them into the "Pay Aaron Hill Fund" and earmark it for Hill's paycheck. Likewise, Boston is now paying Hill's full contract. The Brewers sent some money with Hill, but it could be any amount, irrespective of what Arizona gave Milwaukee. Guessing Boston asked for at least that much cash, but a deal could have been done with no cash changing hands at all.
  23. How is it about the money? They still have to pay Wilkins. The difference between 10 days of Davies and 10 days of Wilkins is virtually meaningless in terms of their budget.
