  1. From Wikipedia: Players must be on a team's 25-man roster as of August 31 to be eligible for post-season play. The only exception is that a player on the 60-day disabled list may be replaced by another player from the team's 40-man roster (as of August 31) who plays the same position. So if Capuano was moved to the 60-day DL by the 31st, Gallardo would be eligible, right?
  2. It's part of the Socratic method. You still haven't answered my question! Counsell has stated the team would be better if he weren't playing every day. By his own admission, he shouldn't be in there this often. He has a bad throwing arm. He can't hit much. I'm not even sure exactly what the argument for keeping Counsell in there is... charging bunts and productive outs?
  3. I think the negativity is understandable to a point... 26 years without getting into the playoffs builds up a lot of nerves to the point that it would seem the team might have to do everything right to even have a shot at the playoffs. This is obviously not the correct viewpoint, but when the team makes a mistake, it's magnified to a much greater degree than it has been in the past. Part of that is because they're making fewer mistakes and part of that is because the mistakes could well affect the team's plans for October. We all want the team to do well, but most of us are used to the team falling off the ledge of a first story building sometime in June. It's much more worrisome to think about the team falling off the ledge of a very tall building in September again.
  4. You didn't answer my question either. Oops! Yes, I think Branyan is better. Craig might have a hair better range, but the guy is turning 38 in 9 days (he's even admitted he can't/shouldn't play every day) and Branyan's arm is much better. The marginal difference in range between the two is outweighed by the marginal difference in arm strength IMO, and any marginal defensive differences are vastly outweighed by Branyan's bat.
  5. Sheffield is not having a good year at age 39 and can't really play in the field much anymore. Even if he didn't have a past with the club, I wouldn't want him.
  6. It depends entirely on how much the Brewers value team chemistry. I think the Brewers think they have a great clubhouse, and wouldn't want the inherent distractions that Bonds would bring. It would take the focus away from the group of guys that have been playing as a team all season. If Braun were out for a long period of time, Bonds would certainly help, but I give the Brewers a 1% chance of even breaking out the Rolodex to think about dialing Bonds' agent.
  7. Because they don't agree with your point?
  8. Well, Branyan's RZR is better than Counsell's this year, granted it's a very small sample size. Branyan certainly has a better arm. At best, it's a wash, and offense cancels out any possible advantage Counsell has.
  9. I agree... is the inverse also true, that if the team is not playing well, is it ok to not play your best player? Counsell is not as good offensively as Branyan or Hall, and might not be better defensively either. There is just no reason to give him much of a chance to make professional strikeouts, gritty weak throws or yeomanlike foul popups. A start a week to keep him fresh, sure... more than one in a row at third base with better options, no way. The goal is to maximize production at all spots in the order, not just be happy with 7-8 of them.
  10. Games in interest, centrally timed, playoff odds in parenthesis: 6:00 - Cubs (97.2%) @ Braves (1.4%) - R. Harden (6-2, 2.27) vs. C. Morton (3-5, 5.70) 6:10 - Mets (45.3%) @ Nationals (0.0%) - J. Santana (9-7, 2.85) vs. O. Perez (5-8, 4.10) 6:10 - Cardinals (14.2%) @ Marlins (9.2%) - K. Lohse (13-4, 3.80) vs. C. Volstad (3-2, 2.67) 8:05 - Diamondbacks (56.3%) @ Rockies (1.2%) - R. Johnson (9-8, 4.24) vs. U. Jimenez (8-10, 3.86) 9:10 - Phillies (48.9%) @ Dodgers (42.7%) - C. Hamels (9-8, 3.35) vs. C. Kershaw (2-3, 3.71)
  11. Maybe we can convince Dusty that they need a grizzled veteran out there in CF and trade them Cameron for Cueto? Yah, right now it looks like Bruce, Freel and Hopper. Maybe throw Chris Dickerson in there. Dusty will be hungry for some veteran prowess.
  12. When is Anundsen going to get shut down? He's at 120+ innings pitched, and has really struggled his past few outings. Got to be close to an inning cap.
  13. Postseason Odds Cardinals: 12.7% Marlins: 9.4% Games Behind Milwaukee Cardinals: 3.5 Marlins: 5.5 Go Marlins.

  15. End, no one was up in the bullpen. The Nats are very low on arms.
  16. Harris dove for it in front of him, he missed it, and the ball bounced over him.
  17. Guzman as RH vs. LHP: .336/.362/.469 Guzman as LH vs. RHP: .282/.314/.375 Shouse vs. RHB: .271/.366/.414 Shouse vs. LHB: .190/.190/.316 It worked out, but it wasn't a good move.
  18. Hardy just missed the catch, 100% on him. Why is Shouse facing a righty?
  19. I think I'd take Steven Shell in the bullpen. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. Might as well keep Bush in to start the 7th with the bottom of the lineup coming up.
  21. Bob Carpenter on Dave Bush: "If this guy's their number 5, they're better than we thought they were."
  22. I would take Harris, Zimmerman, Kearns, Milledge, Belliard and Nieves in Nashville, and most of those guys could fit on the major league roster, too.
  23. Counsell battles sharply to a sharp strikeout.
  24. Closed due to better description in other thread.
