  1. There are some odd tiebreaker situations that would occur when multiple teams are tied for both the division championship and for the wild card spots. Reading through them, some would possibly bring two extra home games. Here are some tiebreaker scenarios that would have possibly led to multiple extra home games for a club (dates are for 2013): http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/playoff-tiebreaker-rules?ymd=20130904&content_id=59527184&vkey=news_mlb
  2. ^ a rare Glendon Rusch sighting on Brewerfan.net, only happens in playoff chase years ^
  3. Mike Fiers giving baseball fascism a chance today. 14 Ks through 6 IP. Have a day, Mike!
  4. The videos of "Coach Lasso" that NBC Sports did last year and this year are a bit humorous. Get into the "football mood" here in America: 2013: 2014: http://youtu.be/iRqypM7jb5Y
  5. I'm a Motherwell fan [scottish Premier Football League]. Scottish football doesn't get much coverage here in the States. But there are opportunities every week to listen to (or watch on certain websites of questionable legality) games via the Internet. Motherwell has finished "best of the rest" in their league the last several years behind Celtic. (Imagine the Yankees and Red Sox combining their resources and the rest of the league being like the AL Central.) Following a team that punches above their weight isn't much different than being a Brewers fan. As for the EPL, I've become a Newcastle fan. Northernmost EPL team. Great fan base. Some success, like in the 1990s. But now could either compete for a Europa League place or possibly be in a relegation battle. That makes the year interesting. Always happy to have the Saturday morning routine of drinking coffee and tuning into the soccer.
  6. Finally landed a haymaker with Waino on the ropes. Big hit by Lucroy.
  7. Questionable strategy busting in front of the #8 hitter. Then another base running error, getting doubled off. At times, this team just makes one question their baseball IQ.
  8. Disappointing way to lose another game where the starter pitched well enough to usually get a win. Gotta get all phases (starting pitching, relief pitching, and offense) working at the same time and back on winning ways. Nice to hear Brewerfan.net's own minor league specialist Mass Haas on the WSSP post-game show. That New England accent is something else to listen to.
  9. Time for some dumpster fire and self-immolation GIFs. Or maybe the Hindenburg.
  10. To the bullpen in the 6th after going up 6-0. Should have figured on that with Gallardo pitching. Bullpen needs a good performance. Gotta have the offense light up again.
  11. That makes sense to play the roster and Nelson's arby clock that way, since they've waited this long. But based on the Haudricourt tweet, it looks like with the Brewers' current free fall could accelerate the call up. Calling up Nelson for SAT against STL is a move that indicates the series is a "must win". Management could be worried about what reaction losing the division lead at the All Star Break may cause.
  12. Like that 1-7 in the lineup. With the number of free swingers on the roster, the manager needs to split them up a bit by interspersing some of the less-free swingers. Braun at #5 makes sense. With Gomez leading off, moving Gennett to #2 is the logical move. Lucroy has shown himself to be a good #3 hitter so far. So the question is whether to put Ramirez or Braun at #4. I have no problem with Braun hitting at #5 with his current year's batting approach and the effects of his injury. Braun at #5 also prevents the black hole of OBP and strikeouts that could run from Ramirez-Davis-Reynolds-Bianchi/Segura.
  13. Philadelphia radio and TV announcers were just astonished at the number of 1-pitch at bats the Brewers had tonight and all games against them this season. Unfortunately, none of us are surprised at these.
  14. What is the long-term role for Will Smith? When he was obtained, there had been thought that he could be a starting pitcher. But would the team move him out of his dominant reliever role? Is Smith perhaps a closer-in-waiting?
  15. Based on tonight's performance, any of these would have been fitting for the last out: (a) strikeout; (b) ball pounded into the ground (a la Segura) or double play; © another first pitch Gomez weak out with runners on. Too many wasted opportunities tonight. If this series is a harbinger of Brewers' performances against good teams, it won't be quite as fun a summer as it looks like it could be.
  16. Uruguay and Suarez take a bite out out of Italy. Another European power crashes out in the group stage. Costa Rica wins the group. A bizarre, topsy-turvy tournament so far.
  17. Yes. Missed the mathematical possibility of advancing on 3 points and goal differential. Definitely no wiggle room.
  18. Spain and England both eliminated from advancing after their first two group games. Didn't think that would have happened. Some other "names" could be in the same boat by Monday. Still a number of group games to play, but the early results have been good for the Western Hemisphere teams.
  19. Very sad to read. Tony Gwynn was a Hall of Fame performer on the field, just as good off it. Cancer is a terrible scourge.
  20. Really good film. Well worth watching if on this week. Lets the TV footage tell the story. A whole lot happened, as LouisEly mentioned. Opening game of the World Cup 1994 was even on that day.
  21. Great finish to the Switzerland/Ecuador match. Looked more like how an NHL playoff game ends in OT.
  22. Gutsy pitching by Gallardo there. May have looked shaky at times, but the line says: 7IP, 0R. Take that any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
  23. are they reviewing? They're reviewing the play. Got the PIT broadcast living out here in PA. Their announcers wanted the call overturned. One of those where the tag was on the left knee, while the right foot may have hit the plate first. Plus the whole new plate blocking rule. Throw was perfect and beat Walker well. Call stood.
