  1. Giving up runs after the offense gets a lead twice tonight isn’t ideal. Going to need the long relief and some comeback offense.
  2. Having Frelick back in the lineup and the leadoff spot sometime this weekend should be beneficial. Turang has done well filling in at leadoff, but it's probably better to get his bat a little further down in run-producing part of the order.
  3. A lot of sloppiness for the first home game after the All Star Break. Looks a lot different than the previous week on the road. Hope it's just a one-off tied to distractions with today's events that clears up quickly.
  4. Low-scoring games where the only offense comes from a home run are common in the playoffs. It's the area where the team's offense could use an upgrade by adding at least one more batter that's a true home run threat.
  5. The interview makes you want to love the player and not just performance:
  6. (1) Finding a shortstop that can be closer to league average on offense, while still being adequate defensively would be helpful. Maybe see if Isiah Kiner-Falefa could be acquired from Pittsburgh. The team could still carry Ortiz on the roster instead of Monasterio. (2) Add another one-inning reliever who is a potential setup man/backup closer. Would be #3 behind Megill and Uribe. Not a huge need, but is always useful.
  7. Shouldn't be surprising that Civale would want a trade to continue being a starting pitcher somewhere; he's going into free agency after the season. I'm not sure what return trading him would even bring. Finding corner infield help for Civale would be optimal, but perhaps just clearing the 40-man roster spot and the salary, while picking up a couple lottery ticket minor leaguers should be the expectation.
  8. Rough outing for Patrick. Was probably bound to have a clunker in the near future. Guess today was the day. Did finish with three Ks in his last inning. Will need to see how he shakes today off the next time up in the rotation.
  9. This is the Murphy bullpen management that is a bit aggravating. Ashby should've been mopping up. Hasn't pitched since 5/27. They had an 8-run lead. There's even an off day tomorrow.
  10. Another of the great, long-time baseball radio broadcasters is lost to history. Uecker's voice will always be etched in the memory. Sorry that the team couldn't quite "Win One for Ueck," even during this recent run of winning seasons. There will be a legacy with all those who worked the radio booth with Uecker, but he is one of those irreplaceable legends.
  11. -4 turnover margin = losses most every time. Lousy performance for much of the offense and special teams.
  12. Fair point. Probably the better thinking. But seeing all the other playmakers being out, the team couldn’t afford to lose any more. Still doesn’t explain the subsequent play calling.
  13. That was a play where Jacobs would’ve probably been better just to take the first down gain and go out of bounds. Love his toughness, but game situation also matters.
  14. Can’t deny Jacobs’ effort tonight.
  15. May need a defensive score to hit the end zone.
  16. Doubs having another head injury after recovering from one in season and wearing the enhanced helmet protection is not a good result.
  17. Defense has pulled its weight so far; good start on the opening drive of the half. Just missing a forced turnover. Need the MIA offense to do something positive.
  18. Seems to be a good summary of Pres. Lincoln's critical commentary of Gen. George McClellan's command of the Army of the Potomac.
  19. Great capper touchdown drive. Good number of backups performed well tonight. Really like the rushing offense functioning so well, coupled with the passing game. Need to get that all in sync for a playoff run.
  20. Malik Willis sighting. Probably could’ve been earlier.
  21. He drilled that. Good to have an opportunity to check his range in the cold without a game on the line. Unfortunately that might not needed with road playoff games.
  22. Just astounding by Doubs. Excellent TD grab.
