  1. Might have to consider making Hughes the 8th inning set up man going forward. Or maybe Swarzak when he gets to the team.
  2. Hmm... need to get my gut checked. I swear I felt 9 when I woke up this morning... Must have been that one extra taco..... But tonight's been a good way to reset after a hellacious week in Philadelphia.
  3. Adam Lind in LF. Looked like a Clydesdale running down that fly ball. Worse than Thames in the outfield?
  4. Those emphasized statements have been precisely what I've been thinking for a while. When you compare the Brewers to the other NL Central teams, there's a huge disparity in strikeouts. Including Broxton, the Brewers have four players with over 100 Ks this year, the Reds have one, the rest have zero. I know the philosophical debate about strikeouts versus other ways of making outs or whether "productive outs" even exist. One benefit of all the strikeouts is that the Brewers are low in the league for grounding into double plays. They still lead the division in runs/game. But perhaps fewer "all-or-nothing" at bats with RISP during this past week would've meant the difference and kept the losing streak to two or three games instead of six.
  5. The streak is snapped. Gonna need another bottle of Rolaids, though.
  6. Welcome back, 2017 Brewers Offense! How we've missed you this past week.
  7. Something needs to light a spark under the Brewers' offense. Even if this game is written off, the dreadful offensive performances over the last six games (including tonight) need a reversal, and fast. DFAing Scahill or Torres wouldn't bother me. But the fall off the cliff from the offense is absolutely remarkable.
  8. Rough game to watch here at Citizens Bank Park. Just no real offense going for the Brewers. When they do get runners, it's with two outs, and there's no clutch hit. Shaw has missed two run scoring opportunities at bat. Couple that with at least two poor defensive plays. Feels like the Pirates series extended.
  9. Pirates did nearly everything right in this series, while the Brewers didn't: * Getting hits with runners in scoring position. * Two out RBIs. * Beating the shift with opposite field hits. * Better fundamentals on the base paths and in the field. Right now, that's the difference in a four-game series with all games being close, making it a series sweep for the Pirates instead of a split or even a Brewers' series win. Some of that is "bat luck" with the flare shots that dropped in for hits, but part of it is approach/skill. When we play the Pirates--or especially the Cardinals--I just kind of expect that to happen. But what's more concerning is it seems like we don't expect such performances from the Brewers, and haven't for several seasons. Instead, we just anticipate the high strikeout totals, errors in the field, bad base running, etc.
  10. The Pirates have landed a full broadside on the Brewers. Unless the offense gets in gear, the whole divisional lead will be pissed away by the weekend. Not even an unexpected excellent start from Davies was enough. Just about all the weaknesses in the offense have been exposed in the last four games.
  11. That's the stat from tonight. Failure to truly capitalize on run scoring opportunities has cost the Brewers three straight games.
  12. Pretty decent form tackle by Thames. Needs to wrap up a little better, though.
  13. Wild game swing in that inning. Better get the ship righted fast.
  14. Could have sworn I was at Miller Park for the win on Saturday. I think Polish Falcons was referring to the Brewers' record on the road so far in July: 1-0 at CHC 2-1 at NYY 0-1 at PIT That would actually be winning 3-out-of-5.
  15. While the Brewers are at PIT, PHI, and WAS for 10 games, the Cubs have the following 10-game stretch: 3 at ATL 3 vs. STL 2 vs. CHW 2 at CHW I'd think that the Cubs should be able to go 6-4 during that stretch, up to 8-2. That would mean that the Brewers probably need to go no worse than 4-6 on the road trip. With the three games in WAS being the last of the 10 games, they really need to get a split or better in PIT. Starting with a win tonight would make that task easier.
  16. No clutch hitting for the Brewers with runners on late today. No win. First weekend after the All Star Game is complete, and the Brewers lost a game in the divisonal lead. Huge 10-game road trip to PIT, PHI, and WAS is next. That could be the pivotal part of the season.
  17. Phillips with a pinch-hit two-run homer. First of his career. Just that type of magic so far this season.
  18. Loud double play, but it's still the pitcher's best friend. Get a couple runs and close this out.
  19. Their stats going into tonight show that. Franco: 12 games vs. MIL .373 BA 5 HR 15 RBI .765 SLG 1.172 OPS Herrera: 14 games vs. MIL .380 BA 2 HR 8 RBI .580 SLG 1.028 OPS
  20. Philadelphia's announcers tonight have been spending a lot of time talking about the different batting approaches that Arcia has. His stance and leg kick with less than two strikes in the count is different than when he has two strikes. Apparently the leg kick is much less when he has two strikes. They were wondering if he would be more successful with the two-strike approach consistently. Have the Milwaukee announcers picked up on this at all?
  21. No dice for Shaw tonight with runners on base. Going against his season trend tonight.
