  1. It's just the general vibe I'm sensing from forum posts, podcasters etc. Not in the sense of he's a bust, but most everybody is already crowning the new SS golden boy (Made). Pratt is probably trade bait unless he moves to OF. Made is pretty much penciled in as the very near future SS. At 3B Pratt will / would have Wilken, Fischer, maybe Adams to contend with in that same near future. Williams seems destined for the OF, but maybe they have real plans for him in the dirt. Just a lot of competition swimming in the prospect pool not to mention the existing starters, and Pena too. He is pretty young. Seems to me expectations were a bit high for him at AA. But to his misfortune, he has Made forcing the issue. Normally, I think most people would be quite content to let him play another season at AA, bumped up to AAA if merited. But as it is, he may very well be leapfrogged I suppose.
  2. Pratt sure has fallen out of favor quick after just one somewhat offensively disappointing year at AA. He was the new SS golden boy just 2 years ago. Have to wonder what the sentiment will be about Made if he has a similar AA season this year.
  3. The only moves they typically make to "excite" the fan base is to trade for prospects. Its logical that they want to get the up as quick as possible. It helps sell tickets and merch. I think they don't force the prospects to the majors if they absolutely can't, but the guys ahead of them often have a short leash. In other words, they wouldn't have forced Durbin up just to force it. But I think they were pretty confident that Dunn / Capra were going to make it an easy decision to do so, Same will happen with Jett. He's the shiniest thing they have to offer to the fans at the moment. And, to be fair, he appears to have enough skillset to justify a quick callup.
  4. He seemed like a legit "cheap" option, decent bang for the buck with some proven performance. But not ideal either. Kind of coin flip on what he might give you at the plate. My kid is a Twins fan, so I saw a fair amount of Bader last year, and he just struck me as one of those solid contributors who doesn't get a lot of fanfare. I can take it or leave it though.
  5. And Bader gone too. Had thought that might be an option to upgrade CF, however unlikely.
  6. They already are looking to trade from surplus OF, so I don't see them needing Perkins. Maybe Tyler Black could find a role there along with a controllable pitching prospect? Futile speculation regardless. There's no smoke or fire between MIL and BOS.
  7. That all sounds like Duran. I know I've been a broken record about him, but he matches every criterion you laid out. I'll add, JD wasn't even on my radar until somebody here, (maybe even Brock?), suggested him. I wasn't impressed by his numbers initially. But further consideration changed my mind. He's not, nor would become the power bat they need. Based on his past proven (rather than prospective) talent, he would be a very good upgrade, and a feasible acquisition. Alas, it's not to be. Maybe Jett can become a smaller, faster version of Duran.
  8. That was my initial thought. But I suspect that it is a pipedream.
  9. A few have referred to Miller as minor league depth but indicate an opinion that he is not a suitable consideration for the big leagues. Isn't that contradictory? If one holds the view that he is a minor league talent only, as I do, he's not really depth when depth is defined as being a viable major league option. If he's not generally viewed as ML material, what is he depth for?
  10. (I decided to cut the length of my original response) I'm usually on board with how they operate in building towards a WS. But once you plateau with a plan as they have, and are literally just a couple pieces away, as they are, I don't think it's unreasonable to be a notch more aggressive. It wouldn't have to be Duran specifically. That appeared to be a good trade needs match for both clubs to come away with immediate help. Duran alone probably wouldn't have helped the '25 NCLS, but it's about adapting and upgrading for '26. They simply don't have enough offense coming from CF and counting on Mitchell's bad luck to change is unwise. Baddoo, Lockridge, Perkins, and now Jett are all pretty much the same player. Granted, Jett's bat might play more eventually. I don't think they expect anything more from Berroa or Avans than providing emergency depth.
  11. Of course prospects have value, that's not what I'm saying. Not all prospects have MLB top ten cache. And there is a time to push for proven rather than prospective talent. When you won the most games and made it to the small market consolation round (NLCS), it is prudent to pursue proven MLB value to get to the next round.
  12. Excellent question. Have wondered about the mythic lab too. And why don't they have a hitting lab?
  13. That is my expectation as well. And that is why I view him as redundant. We already have a super fast, light hitting CF who winds up playing too much because the guy who has the frame to be a power hitting CF is hurt all the time. JW's minor league offense might translate to the bigs, or it might not. Not long ago, all those thumbing down my comments would have been as supportive of Tyler Black coming over in a trade because of his minor league stats too. They are close to a WS berth. They need a proven OF bat with more pop than Perk has shown or that JW "might" have. I don't even factor in Mitchell anymore. I enjoy prospects and watching them develop. However, it tends to put fans on a treadmill always chasing the carrot on the stick with the titillating promise of the prospect payoff which is perpetually just a couple years away. It really shouldn't have been too much to ask to land a solid (proven MLB) bat for a super cheap year of high quality, dependable starting pitching. That's all I'm saying.
  14. The objective isn’t to have the most top 100 prospects. Many of whom turn into serviceable guys to field a team, but don’t live up to the hype. If the farm system shelves were bare, nabbing this pair would have made more sense. Don’t mind Sproat, but JW is redundant. He might surprise me with better power than I’m expecting, but I’m skeptical.
  15. Maybe. Depends on what specifically the Sox are looking for. Not sure how excited they get about prospects versus proven MLB commodities. We're forced to be content suckling on prospect potential. Bigger markets can demand real players that have already proven themselves at the MLB level. So, you might be right. Boston would probably laugh at a package that included Pena or Pratt and some pitching for Duran or Abreu. Then again, this article indicates that they are probably getting desperate to find a trade partner.
  16. Found this interesting. And aggravating. The Brewers clearly need an above average bat upgrade added to the OF. Boston still has a surplus of them. The Yankees sign Cody Bellinger, the Mets trade for Freddy Peralta, and the Red Sox are still searching for a trade partner
  17. No, and that's why there is usually other players involved to balance out the value. If all the farm system hype is to be believed, MIL has too many high quality prospects and not enough room for them all. Put a package together along with Freddy and bring a hitter in. That would have been realistic.
  18. That is not the level of hitter I'm talking about
  19. Why not pursue Abreu or Duran or guys of that red chip level? That doesn't seem like an absolute unrealistic scenario. Sometimes the stars align and a guy of that caliber can be acquired for all kinds of reasons.
  20. Not my job to scour rosters to find a match. But as noted previously, Boston has a surplus of OF with decent bats. Plus they were looking for pitching. But MIL appears to have fiddle F'd around too long and Boston found other options. Maybe that wasn't ever a possibility, we don't know. Regardless, out of all the teams that expressed interest in Peralta, including the ones that we didn't hear about, there had to be somebody they could have worked out.
  21. Considering they are already drowning in small, lighter hitting players and / or INF prospects, it seems like they could have packaged redundant prospect capital and Freddy for a proven MLB high quality bat. Do they need another 5 foot 7 inch young guy that bad? I like Arnold, but I'm critical of this much more than other moves. They need proven MLB HITTERs, or at least dudes with a frame that can grow and put on muscle. Not another small guy who probably can't hit with power at the big boy level. Perplexing.
  22. MIL does not need yet another small, light hitting entirely unproven prospect for F's sake. This tells me that they are either positioning to flip Jett W. in another trade for a bigger bat OR they aren't as excited about some of the infield prospects as we're led to believe. It would not surprise me in the least however that they are quite content with another 5' 7' infielder, and that we've had a bunch of smoke blown up our kilts about how deep the farm system with SS/infield prospects. There is one SS job available in the near future. Pratt, Made, Pena Jett Williams can't all play it at the same time. Some might slide to 3B, but obviously, there is already a logjam of prospects there too. Makes no sense.
  23. The liability for the player salary is covered. But I wonder about the franchise losing potentially a year of player’s service. That negatively impacts their bottom line from possible loss of revenues. Maybe they take out an insurance policy too. The event promotes the league. Just seems like an unnecessary risk for star players.
  24. Doesn't seem to be much noise about them looking for another non prospect, real bat. Confounding.
  25. Have never watched this exhibition. I get the novelty, but it sure seems like a great way to get a key player injured prior to the MLB games that matter. Why would MLB franchises expose themselves to such a risk, especially small market teams? Do the Brewers get paid for allowing Turang to participate?
