  1. Well said. Never go against Kirk/Shatner.
  2. I was just reading that some people are reporting lingering issues from COVID are improving after getting the vaccine. https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/long-haul-covid-vaccine/2021/03/16/6effcb28-859e-11eb-82bc-e58213caa38e_story.html
  3. Wisconsin bumped up the next vaccine group from March 29 to March 22. This is people 16+ with health issues of some kind (diabetes, cancer, etc.). Makes a ton of people eligible. No specifics on how they'll enforce the guidelines. Mostly likely just sign something saying you have one of the many issues. But I think those things are up to the places distributing the vaccine.
  4. He just turned 18 last month. I don't think you'll ever find a fully developed 18 year old prospect. Which is why teams don’t trade all star pitchers for 18 year old kids. James Shields for Fernando Tatis, Jr. Okay, the former was an all-star anymore. And Tatis was 17 at the time.
  5. Glad you are better.
  6. I'm okay with the Jones signing. He probably gave up some FA money - but he wants to be here, which is cool. To me, the thing I would wary about is signing a RB who has had a ton of mileage on him after 4-5 years. That's not Jones. He's got around 650 attempts thus far in his career. That's not that much. Guys like Le'Von Bell will get the ball 900 and 1000 times in their first four years. And while there are always aberrations - such as Frank Gore - most players just start falling apart sooner than later. Thus, Jones should have at least a few more years left in the tank as a high quality back. Jones and Dillon will make a nice tandem next season.
  7. So, answer this one if you like. If the Packers had players of EQUAL value at all positions available for our 1st round pick - what position would you select. I'm not asking what person you'd pick - but what position you would fill (again, assuming you valued each player equally). Just curious.
  8. If I'm contacted, that's exactly what I'm saying. Other people need this before me. Hopefully most people, especially young healthy people will do the same. Vaccine supplies are basically to the point now there there aren't really shortages. Its moreso having the manpower to administer the shots. At the end of the day, the more shots in arms, the faster things can start getting back to normal - or closer to "normal" at least. There are still plenty of shortages. I was at my doctor's about a week ago and was told the healthcare system had a 30,000 person waiting list. My wife confirmed this at the time. But it is going down. Everyone is getting more efficient, the number of doses that are getting here is increasing each week. I see a light at the end of this tunnel - which is good.
  9. On the down side of things, my brother's father-in-law is looking like he won't make it for much longer. He got COVID last October. They had him in the hospital into December - didn't think he'd make it then. But he got stable and was sent to an assisted living situation. But it's been constant struggle. Needs supplemental oxygen more and more. He's elderly - 90+ - and COVID just ravaged his lungs. Slowly but surely he's getting worse. Not much can be done. Tough on their family - six months of this.
  10. My 85 year old mother got her second shot yesterday. She did great. Got tired a little while later, and was fine this morning. I was really happy for her. Can't wait till I get mine - I need to go visit her - haven't seen her in almost six months.
  11. I totally agree. Just get good players - whether ready now or next your or three years down the road. I know it's tempting to want guys who are close to contributing - but this is often the chance to get an impact player.
  12. While everyone is different, the vast majority of people are reporting the 2nd dose is the one that zonks them out the most. Working in a healthcare system, my wife knows a ton of people who have gotten the shots. I think the worst was one guy - after his second shot - who was just wiped out for about three days. Most people it's 24-48 hours of fatigue, headaches and just a general 'blah' feeling. It generally has taken about 8-10 hours for effects to kick in for most people.
  13. Is this in reference to something that actually happened? Did Ben Hendrickson's Dad post on this site? Yes. And was a bit of a jerk. Hendrickson's dad would berate people in threads for saying anything remotely bad about his son. I remember getting a message from him after I posted something to the effect of 'I think he will be better as a starter than reliever' (my thought process was that Hendrickson was a guy who did well when he got in a groove - that sort of thing). It was not really criticism - and very mild if taken as such. His dad PMed and called me an idiot or something like that. And - I'm not lying - pointed to the one time Ben had done well in relief. I believe Ben's mom contacted one of the mods and apologized for what a jerk the guy was.
  14. Bradley is a good player, and I'm happy to have him. Stearns has constructed a team in a specific fashion - and it's kind of cool they're going all in on what they are doing. If things go well, they have an average offense, good defense, solid rotation, very good bullpen (in particular the back end). This is - by no means - fool proof. We are counting on a lot of bounce back players, and need a few guys to step up and improve. The move certainly gives us depth and versatility at the OF position.
  15. I think the Brewer team - if it is going to be a playoff contender - is going to do that due to okay hitting, good defense, solid rotation, and a very good bullpen - especially the back of the bullpen. It's sort of like the Royals of 2015 (not exactly, but close enough). Thus, unless you do get a ton for Hader, you just keep him as he's essential to the team's success. If the Brewers implode for whatever reason this year, then you can deal him at the deadline. Yes, there is risk he could get hurt or not be as good - but there's risk to dealing him as well.
  16. This is really great. One shot. Can be kept in a refrigerator for up to 3 months. Still a huge waiting list all over the state - but this will help significantly. The one dose is great in places that the vaccine has to be brought in - like nursing homes. And it's great for rural areas where getting to patients (or patients getting to clinics and so forth) isn't as easy.
  17. Just nice to see some box scores.
  18. If this team is going to win next year, they are going to need a lot of things to trend in the right direction for them. Cain, Yelich, Garcia, Narvaez, and Hiura rebounding. Young guys improving, such as Urias, Lindblom, Houser, etc. And, of course, staying healthy. That all said, this team will never be a juggernaut. But if we win, it'll be with an adequate offense, good defense, and solid pitching - including a exceptional back end of the bullpen. That means Hader and Williams locking things down. Thus, unless you are blown away with an offer for Hader - you just hang on to him, and see how the season goes. If things don't go well, he'll still have a ton of value during the season. Yes, injury of diminishing effectiveness is always a risk. But so is trading him. May as well see how this team performs - and then make a move later if it's deemed prudent. Thus, just hang on to the guy unless you are blown away. SD or whomever will come calling in July if we become sellers - and the price will be just as high - if not more.
  19. I remember thinking that Bradley would be a fascinating add. But I figured no way as long as we had Garcia, Cain and Yelich. But hey, it's fun to speculate. On the surface, you can see the good and bad. Great glove, will hit 15-20 HR, walks 10% of the time, hit well last year. However, he's lucky to hit .250, is not the defender he was five years ago (but he's still really good), and his base running has slipped as well (not a shock for a player who is almost 31). The other thing is not to get too excited about last year's .283 BA (by far his career best). It was buoyed by a .343 BABIP - almost 60 points of his career average. I more realistic version is that Bradley reverts to a .240ish hitter. As with so many players, I guess so much depends on the price and years. 2/$16M is great. I'd take that. But 4/$50M+ is not worth it (I just pulled that number out of my butt, so don't think that's some sort of rumored ask - it's just an example).
  20. That's great. I'm always happy for people to get the vaccine. My wife has gotten her's - both shots. Makes me feel better. I'm a ways away from be eligible. I'm hoping by May. I want to be able to get out and enjoy things with the family this summer.
  21. Just get better. I hope you don't end up with any lingering effects. Good luck and take care.
  22. Rosenthal got $11M. Nice for him. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/30923743/closer-trevor-rosenthal-oakland-athletics-reach-1-year-11m-deal-sources-say Closing thread.
  23. So, Tatis has exactly 2 years of service time - meaning he's a free agent in four years. Let's break down a hypothetical contract: 2021 - $1M 2022 - $10M 2023 - $15M 2024 - $24M Total Pre-FA salary: $40M That leaves 10 years at $300M - which is a convenient $30M a year for the time frame. No doubt that if Tatis has some really big seasons in the next few years he could get more. But what he got doesn't seem unreasonable. He's locking in $340M. If waits and goes year to year - he could be losing $50-100M. But on the flip side, one injury and he's toast. It's hard to fault someone for locking in this kind of cash. The big thing unknown is what will a future CBA contract do to revenues. If the players get more money he might be giving up quite a bit more potential dollars. But that's just potential. It's hard to believe that making $30M a year is going to be that 'low'.
