  1. For some reason, I keep setting my kids' alarm on days they don't have school. We were all up really early this morning.
  2. We owned two Toyotas and I recently traded in my 2012 RAV and did not go back to Toyota. Compared to Honda and Subaru, they have much cheaper and less refined interiors and they use inferior materials. I drove my wife's 2010 Corolla the other day and immediately wanted out of it because of how cheap it is on the inside compared to my new Pilot. She is talking about wanting a new car soon and Toyota isn't even on our list of brands to look at.
  3. I think people overestimate the number of boomers that went to college. Many could still get good-paying low-skilled jobs right out of high school through the 1960s and early 1970s when most boomers were coming of age. Many boomers don't understand how the current generations (Millenials and Gen Z) simply can't do the same thing they did for a variety of reasons. Many of those that did go to college can't fathom how a student can't simply pay for their tuition by working through college.
  4. If any of you are in the Madison area, I need a butcher. Costco is fine but does not have everything. I'm wanting to smoke beef ribs but I can't find bone-in at any grocery store or at Costco.
  5. Based on availability on Stubhub, I'm guessing bots were able to purchase tickets the second the sale started. This is ridiculous.
  6. Friends didn't get tickets because match day tickets were sold out. Why have the lottery if people who win the lottery can't buy match day tickets? I'm hoping my dad was able to get them.
  7. Headline today: "Tornado last month caused $3 million in damage in Chippewa County town" While technically correct, the tornado was one week ago to the day. Why not say, "last week"?

  9. I got a Kamado Joe from Costco. It included a cover and a box of firestarters and since I went with the floor demo so he also threw in a wok and a bag of charcoal. I'm firing it up immediately in the morning for brisket tomorrow night. I know there is a learning curve to using these things and brisket may not be the best choice to start, but bad brisket is still good brisket.
  10. I was driving over to LaCrosse today and hit a spot where the left lane was closed for some work on a bridge. There was a pretty decent backup, but traffic was moving. About 3/4 mile from the lane closure, everyone merges right and only a few cars are staying in the left lane, including myself. About a half-mile from the lane closure, some guy in the right lane pulls halfway into the left lane, actively blocking people from using the zipper method (I guess we all had to zipper a bit early). I really want to see a widespread PSA campaign promoting the use of proper zippering.
  11. I have a printer/scanner combo that uses individual ink cartridges for different colors. First of all, it seems like I can print 5 pages before it runs out of one of the colors. I don't know why it's using cyan when I'm printing a document. Second, I have an empty cartridge that I'm not planning on refilling anytime soon (mostly because my Costco got rid of their photo department and that's where I filled them). I cannot scan while it has an empty cartridge. They want me to buy ink in order to scan. What a racket.
  12. I, for one, welcome our new insect overloards. http://i.imgur.com/ygpPhRl.jpg
  13. I use a Weber kettle as my grill and I'm not sure if a smoker will replace that as my primary grill. I have never had food from a pellet smoker and I'm really curious to see how much different it is vs. a kamado smoker. I had very good luck with pork butt using the snake method, but last time I tried it with ribs the ribs came out tough. Food that I've had on a smoker has been much, much better overall than the things I have smoked on my Weber, but I have still had good results with it.
  14. I'm getting gifted a smoker and I get to choose which one I want. It will likely be between a BGE or a Traeger. Which one would the masses choose and why?
  15. We are on a family road trip and stopped at Mammoth Cave National Park today. We went on a cave tour and there is a part where we sit down, the ranger turns off all of the lights, and lights a candle to show us what early explorers of this part of the cave experienced. A woman sitting a few seats down from me was on her phone playing a game the entire time, sort of ruining the experience for those sitting around her. This was followed up with a demonstration of total darkness, in which the woman merely flipped her phone upside down without covering it. Thankfully the ranger said something. But, really? Playing a game on a cave tour? It was super interesting and we were only seated there for a few minutes. Are you addicted to it so much that you can't put it down?
  16. These are really what external hard drives are made for You could also transfer from itunes to Google Play if you wanted. The problem I have run into is that a lot of the music I purchased through iTunes is DRM protected, so I cannot play it on my Android. I also cannot remove the DRM without either paying Apple $25 to subscribe to iTunes Match or burn all the songs onto a CD, delete the music, then put it back on the computer.

  18. Looks like there has been one... https://www.courthousenews.com/class-claims-chilispulls-a-fast-one/
  19. It does work at some places, but not others. The reason I think it's the card is I can often switch cards and the second one works just fine. I wish more places/cards used the tap feature so I don't even have to use the chip reader.
  20. The chip in my most frequently used credit card keeps wearing out and it needs constant replacing. The current card I have is only about 4 months old and I'm already getting "Chip Malfunction" errors on a lot of card readers. I get that they are more secure, but I never had this problem with the magnet strips.
  21. It was suggested to me that I create Venmo account to allow people to pay for Girl Scout cookies from their phone, so I did so. While it's super easy to use and very convenient, I don't understand why it tells me who else my friends (which I cannot undo, apparently) pay and what they pay them for. I don't care that my friend that lives across the country paid someone I don't know for dog walking. Why does a payment app have to have a social media feel to it?
  22. I feel like the fact that we are going to get a winter storm that will drop up to 14 inches of snow has hardly been talked about with all of the cold. Normally the snowstorm would be eating up every minute of news coverage.
  23. Mee-kwon or Hawthorne Hills in Ozaukee County. Mee-kwon is a shorter drive, but I have great memories of sledding at Hawthorne. It may be a bit fast for a dog, though.
