  1. A blowup season or in first place in July…. All bets are off. Anything could happen with these guys once the season starts. Let’s get real here.
  2. Looks like our hitters swinging from their heels. My hope is that this slight, yet deep and troubling downturn with the team is over soon. The teams needs bats, and no, rebound projects do not count.
  3. We didn’t add a bat at the deadline in 2022 or really much of anything last offseason. You brought up Hader. For me, it’s just part of the bad transactions over the last what 2 or 3 years?
  4. No, I am not confident in that trade. Winker was awful last year and the other guy was worse. More awful averages. And you just brought up Hader, not me. Adding to the team in a beneficial way has not happened in a long while. We look to be desperately looking to drop big salaries. Maybe this makes us better, but it doesn’t look promising. Who are we dangling to get better at the mlb level? Anyone of any significance? We aren’t signing any top FA. Just bleak. And the Cards are getting better.
  5. I no longer expect them to make a trade that will help the mlb club….. even in a playoff race!
  6. Gave up multiple runs three times in August, including a 6ER outing which balooned his ErA… didn’t give up a earned run the last month of season. Blew two saves and a loss in August. Saved 7 and a win… gave up 4 hits and 2 walks in last 11 outings, including 13 Ks. Hader gets us in the playoffs in 2023, IMO.
  7. Tough to be blah when in first place. The selling began on July 31. It was loud and clear. And Hader still somehow outperformed our scrap heap in deadline trade returns, which managed to lead the league in blown saves over the last two months with some gift money to Rosenthal to celebrate the Cards winning the division..
  8. We are literally right in the middle of the Winter Meetings and free agency. Teams Plan A and B have not come to fruition, and teams are looking to get better somehow. Yet we say we no dice… we are not even going to talk about moving them because we are focused on competing in 2023. That’s fine and all(I would be excited if we added payroll and really went for it in 2023 and 2024)…. but the Hader, Renfroe, and Wong trades do not suggest that. It’s more like we NEED desperately to cut payroll in 2023 and get spare young parts for the future like a seller would. Mixed messages. Not a great master plan, IMO. Right now, I do not see how we add huge pieces in FA or make any significant trade for 2023 specifically. Blah since July 31…
  9. Yeah, I am surprised. Why not even shop Burnes, Woodruff or Adames? If we are not going to commit big money to them anyways, why not see what we could get. If it isn’t a ton, keep them. Why tip your hand? The team seems like they themselves don’t know what route they are taking long term or especially short.
  10. The promise lasts what… til June? Still will be surprised if they all are here by season’s end. Trading off Hader, Renfroe, and Wong for uninspiring “junk”….then proclaiming how the core three are off limits, guys that would actually bring back a haul of prospects, all because of devotion to 2023 (not 2024, by the way….a couple or all traded, I expect, for less). Mixed messages. Even if team is ok come July, no one is safe. Brewers are trading like a seller, and preaching like a buyer for 2023. We’ll see if any move gets us excited. That hasn’t happened yet. We are worse, on paper, than last year right now. We’ll see.
  11. Will be surprised if one of those three ISN’T traded…
  12. It's done.... Winker and another
  13. Um, it will help the Brewers. We won’t be going wild in FA any way. It would pay for half of our arby raises. And who says prices are going up? Isn’t it a trend to pay less for middling FAs?
  14. The timeline of all this is fascinating…. When did CM make the decision? Last night?
  15. If UW beat Minnesota by 25, does this coaching change still happen? If yes, how about if Leonard would have run the table… no losses. Almost assuredly no… Leonard would still be coach. So in a nutshell, huge losses by Leonard.
  16. But not good enough to get at bats in our OF last September when we were scrapping for any sort of offensive spark…
  17. Sounds like the reason…
  18. You moved on and now comment on others who have those bad sports memories….Big step of growth. You are going with that take on the Hader thing. I just will add that Hader should have been kept if that was the return and that every single Brewers fan was expecting the team to simply add talent to the MLB roster at the deadline. No one even THOUGHT about taking that type of talent away. Like a seller.
  19. Yes! Me neither. What is happening now is crazy. This isnt normal, right? Stearns maybe said he needs an increased payroll yearly for the next 5 years. MA said no dice, actually needing to cut payroll THIS year with lower attendance. That would produce enough anger and hopelessness to not sign the 5 year extension, cut ties to steer the ship even THIS year and hide in house, not wanting to cause embarrassment to the organization and himself while still getting paid to sit this year out. Oh, my. It is possible and it makes more sense than what we are told.
  20. As well as 4th and 26, the Seahawks NFC champ, Jeff Suppan Game4, and Marcum Game 6 (no one in the state wanted him to start that one).
  21. Arnold should not be shocked that ANY Brewers fan is surprised about picking up Wong’s option. Stearns put us all into seller mode on July 31 and there has been no signs of change yet.
  22. Right. Will we spend more this season, having veteran avg players, to compete better this season with aces in the hole?
  23. Here’s the kicker….We kept Suter over Lamet with playoffs on the line in 2022, knowing full well that Suter was gone in 2023 anyways with too high arby.. Lamet also could have been kept with arby to fill a late inning role this season or cut too. Just cannot fathom that trade for a first place team. And no it cannot be said enough. It is still 2022 and the whole end of the season still burns. Attanasio said that $ had nothing to do with that trade and that even now the team can afford bringing everyone back. Can’t believe it then or now. Throw the reckless Rosenthal trade in and you really start to wonder what is going on.
  24. It is of my opinion that the Brewers will be asking for public funding for the ballpark and projects around the ballpark in the near future. Safe bet, I think. How the team will look for this money is anyone’s guess. I think the Am Fam report will be talking about upgrades that will total a few hundreds of millions of dollars that will upgrade and add to the ballpark area (ballpark village, hotel?). It will be a long term vision, I feel. Add the restructuring of roads and construction costs to that sends the numbers much higher for the city/county. The public will need to pick up this tab in some way. I also think it would be wise to not trade star players now, considering the negativity I feel is still around the team. Trading Burnes will not sit well with team or fans. Even lower attendance and negativity within the clubhouse would not be what the front office wants when announcing to fans that the team is looking for public financing. Adding to the team core now and keeping us competitive for the playoffs for the next two years might be wise if seeking support for the team both now and in the long term building projects.
  25. I am seeing your disconnect when you bring up the Rams stadium. I brought up two current MLB teams (with stadiums) with renovation projects with big price tags. I think the Brewers upkeep/renovations/plans will be of similar cost. That will be a challenge for the club. You must not have been around in 1995 and 1996 when talk began between city/state/ counties for a new ballpark. Thinking our owner is going to take on all this cost himself without public assistance is naive. I see friction on the horizon there. The Brewers are not a feel good story in 2022… lots of team and fan question marks and negative feelings about low payroll, lack of extensions to star players, decreased attendance, and the unknown future of the ballpark and its undoubtedly high price tag. My initial post in this thread was to Beauchamp’s point…I thought it might be worth it as an organization to spend big the next two years even if followed by lean years with low payroll. Why? To potentially combat the question marks/negatives mentioned.
