  1. I just think that Gross will be the #1 pinch hitter from the left side and Gwynn will collect dust. Gwynn could be used as a pinch runner, but for who? Prince? Everybody else runs very well and shouldn't be taken out for a pinch runner anyway. At least Koskie could be a valuable infield, LH bat. If we need to replace Weeks defensively, Hall moves to second and Koskie comes in at third. I like this idea.
  2. If his health is good, I seem to think so. With Hall at third, Koskie could play against tough right handers. Another lefty against Zambrano, Oswalt, and even guys like Snell and Harang would make alot of sense. Another minor league deal? I hope so. I'd much rather see his LH bat coming off the bench instead of Counsell's when Gross has already pinch hit for somebody. Infield: Fielder, Weeks, Hardy, Hall, Counsell, Koskie Outfield: Braun, Cameron, Hart, Gross, Dillon Catchers: Kendall and Rottino or Rivera Edit: Excessive punctuation in title. - Toby
  3. 192 HR in 9 seasons? Aren't the Japanese stadiums much smaller that American stadiums? If I remember right, Matsui hit over 50 home runs in one season over there. I would guess most of those HR turn into warning track fly balls. Prediction: .280/15/80 with 20-30 SB Corey Hart light.
  4. Matsui is in the middle of the pack when it comes to defense. Just did a little research on it. He had 6 assists in about 115 games. So about 9 or 10 in 162 games. Not bad. His ZR and RF are in the middle of the pack and he played in a huge left field. I suspect that Miller Park would improve those numbers.
  5. Just thinking that this would be the ideal left fielder for us. The Yankees and Giants are talking trade. Hennessey or Correia for Matsui? Just relaying what I read on MLBrumors.com. The Brewers have a glut of pitching and could possible handle his contract. Weeks 2B Hardy SS Fielder 1B Braun 3B Matsui LF Hart RF Hall CF Kendall C Me likey.
  6. How about Hall, Parra, Turnbow, and Gwynn? That could be enough.
  7. If the Brewers offered Hall, CVill, Mench, and Gamel, could we get Bedard and Tejada? Then flip Sheets to the highest bidder (LA, for Kemp) Yay!!
  8. Everybody dreads work when they are hungover. Try opening the bar and pouring the same poison you chugged down all night. Ick. Hungover? Gatorade for me. Chocolate Milk for the girlfriend. Also, do what you would normally do. Don't sit on the couch and feel sorry for yourself. It just makes it worse. I usually try to do the same thing, even if I'm sick and not hungover.
  9. Tropicana Field was built to lure a team. The White Sox used Tampa as a pawn to get the new Comisky built.
  10. Sorry all. My bad. I do agree that we need some left handed hitting. But, we need a high average hitter too. The whole Kelly Johnson talk would make alot of sense.
  11. I don't get it either. The last two WS champs didn't have a lefty in their rotation, unless you consider Lester a part of Boston's rotation. If Parra or Cappy end up in the rotation, fine. If they aren't one of our top five starters, that's fine too. Right handed power hitters in the NL Central: DLee, A. Ramirez, C Lee, Berkman, Pence, Rolen, Pujols, Bay, B.Phillips Lefty power hitters in the Central: Berkman, Duncan, LaRoche, Dunn, Griffey, Edmonds? I think a right handed rotation is fine.
  12. If you don't bring your glove you don't play. Could you imagine playing as a kid and using the DH because a kid couldn't hit well? That's what would happen in every league if the DH was universal. Baseball is already specialized too much. Get rid of the DH and add another roster spot. Sorry if I get a little carried away. DH is not pure baseball. It sucks.
  13. I would kill the DH in a second. I hate watching AL games. There is far less strategy in the AL game. No double switches. No sacrifices. Boring. The NL uses more bench, makes more pitching changes, and generally is a harder game to manage. NL is a better game to watch, IMO.
  14. About 20 years ago, I was 16 and working at the Quick Mart on the corner. The only other person staffed was the assistant manager, a bleach blonde, heavy, lazy woman who sat in the back room until it got busy or the manager showed up. I went in one day for work (11-7 weekends) and was abruptly fired. Admittedly, my tills were continually short. But something was fishy. I would never steal. Turned out that the assistant manager was not paying for her scratch off lottery tickets and was later fired. I felt vindicated, but shortly the manager quit too. After that my reason for dismissal was on paper and basically engraved in stone. Many, many times I was turned down for jobs that I was qualified for, with people saying they checked with the Quick Mart and the records said I got fired for stealing. I since have had other retail jobs and now own my own bar, but that still sizzles in my brain every once in a while.
  15. The Yankees would jump at getting a 200IP+ pitcher for an older, over paid outfielder. Bush for Abreu +8 million? Yes Estrada + Bush for Abreu + 5million? Yes Bush for Melky Cabrera? Yes Bush, Gwynn, and Turnbow for Matsui and Bruney? Yes Suppan for Abreu? Yes Any number of deals could work. To get back to the original thread, Posada may get 3yr/42 mil offered from the Yankees. I really think that's out of our reach.
  16. No offense taken. I turn ESPN off when they start babbling about the Yankees. Although I do think they need to talk about the Yankees, now would not be the time. Steinbrenner has this thing about trying to overshadow the Red Sox whenever they make it farther in the playoffs. Pretty childish to me. I just drool at the idea of signing Posada to a deal.
  17. With Torre being gone now, it seems that the Yankees may lose a few free agents. Posada, Pettitte, ARod, Rivera, and Clemens Posada- Great fit here, and a few other places. I say he stays in NY. That would be the hardest hole to fill. Pettitte- He may go wherever Torre goes. I have a feeling they both end up in St. Louis. Just a gut feeling. ARod- Anywhere but NY is a great fit. I think Anaheim gets him. Much more laid back there. Rivera- Yanks may want to put Chamberlain in the rotation if they lose Pettitte. Makes Rivera a priority. Stays with Yanks. Clemens- Finally showed his age. Will retire. Predictions are welcome.
  18. With his plate discipline, I don't see Francouer being a great hitter. .270/30/100 is about his cieling. Is he better than Mench/Jenkins. Heck yes. His defense is the difference. No way I want to see Jenkins here next year. He isn't a leader, and is clueless against LHP. My other question is, if Cordero leaves, what is left of this bullpen? I don't see Turnbow as an important part. Wise is fried. Linebrink might be gone. Would Manny Parra be a good, young, closer? I think Coco or Linebrink is re-signed.
  19. Dude, that isn't to bad. I pay $3500 anually for insurance and that doesn't include the portion paid by my company. That's with a $2000 deductible. It just about doubles if it goes to $500.
  20. Insurance!!!! Wow is this a killer. My business: Bar Insurance- $2000 annually and another $1500 goes to workman's comp. Homeowners: Only about $500 annually Health (screwing the small businessman)- $4000 annually for my 2 year old and myself Auto- 4 people (2 teens)- $3600 annually That's almost 12K my friends.
  21. The idea of Turnbow pitching that many games is kinda crazy. The guy puts alot of stress on his body with his pitching motion. I haven't looked up any stats, but I'm guessing that he had never approached 70 appearances in a season. Just because he was the closer and we weren't that successful of a team. His abuse of Villanueva was what botheres me the most. There were times when he pitched Carlos 2 innings in back to back days, early in the season. It's obvious that he should be treated the same as Gallardo, yet he wasn't.
  22. I find it funny that everybody (ESPN included) is saying the Brewers need a new manager. And the same week, he gets the dreaded vote of confidence. I have a feeling he may the first manager fired. I don't get how they can be this flat every night. They seem to have no energy. How can this not be Ned's fault. These guys won at every level. They may not know how to win at the majors, but considering Yost coaching experience, you would think he would know. Thought he would be the perfect manager for this team. I was 100% wrong. My vote is for Frank Kremblas.
  23. Thought I would bump this up with Hall playing every day and McClung pitching every night.
  24. Not real happy with the lineup. Hall can't seem to wait on a pitch and he has to face Maddux. We all know Gross may be the most patient hitter on the roster. This is a perfect time to play him. IIRC, Jenks has a good history against Maddux. Maybe he can deliver tonight. The whole team needs a new approach tonight. They have to go the other way or they may get shut out. Enough of everybody trying to yank the ball out of the park!
  25. This is crazy. Talk about a bias. BBTN is on before the Brewer game. We have Dusty Baker (former manager), Sutcliffe (former Cub), and Hershiser (neutrally rooting for Cubs) all doing Baseball Tonight. Wow. Maybe they could have Vina and EY show up just to make it look decent. Ick.
