  1. 1. Ned- I know. I wasn't supposed to include him. 2. Hall- What a disappointment. 3. Wise- Fragile physically and mentally 4. Turnbow- Light switch was off way too much this year. 5. Jenkins- No September hot streak? And, .259 versus almost all right handed pitching? He'd hit .220 this year if he had to face lefties.
  2. Honestly, if Sveum can't tell that Turnbow doesn't have it (he was throwing like 94 with no location on the breaking ball), I'd rather have 'ole Ned in there. Sveum was Royster-esque tonight. Brian, we all know managers go far enough up the ramp to the clubhouse to be out of sight. There is no way that Sveum made any decisions tonight. Ned was telling them what to do all along.
  3. Confusing that you can watch that guy throw that many balls in a row and not pull him before he walks a guy in. Every single time you bring him in, have somebody else that can throw strikes, warming up. Tonight might be the stupidest episode of managing we've seen yet.
  4. Actually, I wasn't positive. Just because Ned has used McClung in close games numerous times this month. I don't get it. OK. I hit your 3 hole hitter, knowing your 4,5,6 hitters will be coming up to drive him in? LaRussa had this whole thing figured out. The only reason he whined Tuesday was to fire his team up. Then he hits Prince "as retaliation". He played Ned like a fiddle. He knew he could bait him in. Silver lining: Maybe Ned will be suspended for the last few games and we can win a close game or two.
  5. From what I hear, considering I have had a significant other for 6+ years, the grocery stores are the best on Wednesdays. Why? Because that's when the ex has the kids!!! Wednesday! Single/divorced women dominate the grocery store on Wednesdays. Check it out. You're welcome in advance.
  6. Ned only screwed up three times today. 1) Hall bunting with two strikes. If he is that bad that you have to do this, bat Joe Dillon. 2) Counsell bunting with two strikes. Cause JJ did it last night doesnt mean this has to be done everytime. 3) McClung? Seth McClung? Coco has pitched a total of 11 pitches in the last 5 days, he can stay in. OR, you bring Shouse in to start the inning. He was setting up in the eighth not too long ago. Ned had confidence in him then. Wow. Let the venting begin.
  7. Rockford has midnight flights for $99 one way. You can buy both ways right there. Also, for about $50 bucks, I thought you could buy insurance in case you had to cancel a flight. I may be wrong there. Just went out there for the Badger game. One of my friends had to cancel. They gave him a $200 voucher towards a flight anywhere in the lower 48. If your flight costs under $300, maybe that's your best option.
  8. I said JD Drew because you can get him on the cheap. He is playing in the worst stadium for a dead pull hitter. Why he signed in Boston is beyond me. The guy is a pretty darn good hitter. Sure, he gets hurt alot. But he is a good outfielder and if Jenks walks, he would be a great replacement.
  9. Ned needs to go back to the 25 man roster and only deviate when it comes to pinch running or eating innings in a blowout. Jenks and Gross need to start against all RHP. Dillon has been hot, but he can be used as a pinch hitter. I think we all have seen why he isn't a every day outfielder. Plus, Mench is pretty good versus lefties. No more need for days off just to get Counsell at bats. It's crunch time, and if you can't make it on adrenaline alone, you need to be somewhere else. Hart, Gross, and Jenkins versus RHP, and Hart, Hall, and Mench/Dillon versus LHP. No reason to deviate from this, it has worked pretty well. Linebrink, Turnbow, King, Shouse, Capuano, and Cordero should be all that's used out of the pen unless we are up or down five runs. That's six pretty solid relievers. Manny Parra can be used if healthy. No reason to have Stetter, McClung, Wise, or Aquino even close to the mound in a game where the final outcome hasn't been reached. Maybe we should start a petition and send it to the front office.
  10. Yost confuses me. He said a few weeks ago that he was going to use Cordero for more than one inning if the situation called for it. Pretty sure it screamed for it on Wednesday. Coco had warmed up earlier. He should at least have walked Pence to load the bases and bring in your slider pitcher (Cordero) or your strikeout pitcher (Cordero). But he let Wise pitch to Pence, who already had 2 hits. Wise has never, ever been a ground ball pitcher. So why set up for the double play? I think even Ned knows he wasn't at his best Wednesday. It's like trying to have faith in Bush.
  11. Why does Ned hit Nix over Estrada there? Nix is terrible. He can run for Estrada if he gets a hit. Heck, rather see Rivera, Rottino, Counsell, or Estrada hit there.
  12. I had thought of a few ideas about trading Sheets lately. Especially since this website will be buzzing about it during the Winter Meetings this year. Sheets to the Yanks for Hughes and a prospect had crossed my mind. Sheets to Boston for Lester and JD Drew +cash Sheets to NYM for Milledge and Pelphrey Sheets to Ariz for Montero, Quentin, and a top pitching prospect Sheets to LA for Kemp and Billingsley I could do this all day. By the way, I like the LA trade the best.
  13. Yes if Ned didn't have to make decisions he wouldn't make bad ones. If our players were perfect, anybody could manage the team. The problem is that the players put us in a position to win and Ned makes stupid mistakes over and over again.
  14. I have a couple of other rants here too. 1. Why did we trade for Ray King? So we can use Stetter in pressure situations? I don't mind Mitch Stetter, but using him over King confuses me considering we traded for King. 2. Why was Hunter Pence pitched to? If you fill the bases you can bring the outfield and infield in and possibly catch a ball like Pence hit. Puting a force at all bases is a pretty basic step towards getting out of the 10th not scored upon. 3. And finally, with runners at first and third, why not bring in a strikeout pitcher with one out. Or a pitcher witha good slider so you can turn a double play. Wise does neither. Cordero does both. How long do we have to put up with Ned?
  15. The whole idea of Turnbow pitching Tuesday blows me away. That's when Wise, Aquino, McClung, Stetter, and Spurling should pitch. Turnbow's ERA on the second part of back-to-back games is over 8. Sick. A friend and I were puzzled when Turnbow came into the game Tuesday. I went on tp predict us blowing a lead Wednesday because of it. This whole thing turns my stomach. If we make the playoffs, it's in spite of Ned, not because we have him. We'd have a 6 game lead if Yost wasn't our manager.
  16. I liked Morgan tonight. The Yanks hit for Jose Molina with Posada already DH'ing. "Torre told me that they brought up a couple of young catchers, just for this situation." Not a direct quote, just ballpark. He made it sound like the Yankees are the only team brilliant enough to make a September first callup like this. Guessing every team brings up a third catcher this time of year. Not only that, Joe, but can you do enough homework to learn these guys names? They are on your little cheat sheet in front of you. How lazy can you possibly be?
  17. Jaybird, I think watching Estrada's baserunning has prompted this move. With the deeper bench, they will pinch run for either late in a close game.
  18. I realize they have been doing that. But now, they don't have to save Shouse for when a big lefty is up there, his original role.
  19. Well, here's my rationalization: With the addition of King, a LOOGY, the Brewers have added a much needed LH reliever to their pen. Now, Brian Shouse and Linebrink can be used soley as 7th inning set up men. They can use either, maybe even using Shouse in the eighth or ninth against teams with alot of left handed power hitters (Cincinnati). Remember, the Cards have Duncan, Edmonds, and Branyan. Then, if we do make the playoffs, King is not on the roster. But, with a 3 or 4 man rotation, there will be a natural progression of depth. And, with the possibility of Manny Parra being in the pen then, the need for King isn't as great. I really don't think a top prospect was used to make this deal. Prediction: Aquino for King.
  20. Mine is quite simple and to the point: Mel Kiper, Draft Expert.
  21. I understand the move 100%. Our bench was not contributing at all. Counsell was the only lefty on the bench. Nuff said. The guy is under .230. Any RH reliever was quite comfortable coming in after Jenks spot in the lineup. We went from having too many lefties on the bench to not enough with the demotions of Gross and Gwynn.
  22. Does anybody think that Gwynn or Gross should be up instead of playing Mench versus RHP? We have at least 2 outfielders in AAA that hit RHP better than Mench. Why not DL Wise and bring one up if Hall is gonna sit?
  23. I can't believe you guys actually think Jenkins and Dye are even close to equal. Dye won an MVP two years ago. Jenks was being roundly booed on this site and in Miller Park during that whole time. Now they are equals? Gimme a break. A gold glove right fielder. An OPS over 1.000 since July 1st. Would have been a huge spark. Prince has not had an effective bat behind him in the lineup all year. Why not let him see a few decent pitches? And don't gimme the whole career stats arguement. The last three years is a much more accurate comparison. Jenks supporters don't want to see that comparison. Jenkins: OPS vs Lefties (2004-2006) .675 OPS vs. RHP .877 Dye: .941 .858
  24. Dye is on fire. The guy hit another one tonight (8/3). I think we will regret not trading for him. Moving Hall to second, Hart to center, and puting Dye in right would have been huge. Heard they wanted Turnbow. With the acquisition of Linebrink, I think that would've been a no-brainer.
  25. I understand 100%. I'm just saying that in prior years the Brewers had nothing to play for, so you could let somebody play out of a prolonged slump. But, this year that can't happen. Every game is as important as the next, bar none. Batting eighth or first, we'd have two sure outs in a row with Rickie in there everyday. He can go to AAA and straighten things out. At this point, I think it's the only answer.
