  1. There could be 5,000 Cub fans in the crowd and that's all we'd hear being down 7-0. I have zero problem with them coming up here. We start dominating the division, Cub fans will stay away. The problem I have is that our offense gets pull happy in big games. Zambrano lived on the outside half tonight. Every first pitch was a fast ball high or away in the strike zone. Skaalen has to see that all of his batters are trying to hit the ball 500 feet, even with 2 strikes!!! When Hardy, Hall, Braun, Hart, Prince, or Weeks are going well, they are taking that pitch the other way. Not to pat myself on the back, but I posted that before the series started. It's in the In Game Thread from Monday.
  2. I thought we may see Prince sit tonight. Lilly is the only lefty we face in the series. Ned has a way about resting guys in big games. I just want to say something to Weeks, Hall, Hart, and Kendall: Think right field fellas!!!! When they get pull happy, they get in trouble.
  3. What is Washburn's contract info? Did he sign the same year Soup signed here? Looked it up and answered my own question. Just wondering if Seattle would take 3-4 million, along with Suppan, for Washburn. Washburn has been great lately and his contract runs out after next year. So, we'd get a little freedom, with salary, if Soup waives any no trade clause. Not sure if it would happen, but it may be worth a shot.
  4. OK. My guess is that nobody gets dealt. But if I have to make a guess on a trade: Weeks and Salome for Street. Escobar is our shortstop next year with JJ moving to second or third and Hall playing the other position.
  5. Well, overall a great trip! 2 big victories. Maybe the signature wins of the year for the Crew. Monday's game was sweltering to say the least. At 9pm, it was still 95 and super humid. A few ice cold Bud Lights kept me pretty hydrated. Was mad that Weeks was starting. He shut me up with his shot to Big Mac Land. My bar manager was sitting next to me. He broke his sunglasses when Torres blew the save. Tuesday's game was only 89 at gametime. Almost felt cool. Broke out my Sheets home jersey for the first time in about 2 years. I figured a white shirt made alot of sense. Figured Suppan would be on some sort of pitch count and we'd see Bush or Villy. Very suprised to see Soup go 7 innings. A number of clutch hits made this trip very memorable. We had a great time. Headed back on I-55 now. I will say the Cards fans did not disappoint. Very classy. It reminded me of when Weeks went to Big Mac Land when he was a rookie. They have very knowledgable fans. The icing on the cake was watching the Cubs lose after the game both nights. The fans in the bars were quite happy tha they haven't lost ground to the Cubs. I will be coming back here someday. Great fans. Great Park.
  6. just passing Springfield , Ill. On my phone, trying to post. Any word on Durham starting tonight? Would like to see somebody get on base for Braun and Prince! Hoping to see at least one victory on our two game trip!
  7. Yeah, we got tickets online. Printed them out. Monday: Section 164, row 13, seats 2, 3, 4 Tuesday: Section 163, row 26, seats 2, 3, 4 Pretty cool how you can print your tickets right out. No will call. Three of us sharing a $100/night hotel = $67 per night Splitting gas 3 ways = $50 per person Tickets for two nights = $120 per person Not bad at all, IMHO
  8. According to baseball-reference.com he has played 1 game in CF in his career. Not that he is not capable, but I do not expect to see him in the OF anytime soon. Sorry, got him mixed up with Willie Harris, who replaced Durham in a White Sox uniform. The Sox had traded Durham, then moved his supposed replacement to centerfield for a while.
  9. A few stats that I cherry picked: Durham OPS vs Cubs: 1.129 vs Cardinals .924 Close and Late OPS: .917 Also, The Cubs and Cards have a total of one left handed starter in their rotations now. Having Durham may help big time.
  10. Spur of the moment deal. Got a hotel room for Monday and Tuesday night. Found replacements at the bar so I could go. Can't wait!!!!! We're staying at the Holiday Inn, downtown St Louis. Heard there is a couple of casinos down there. What else is in the area? Help!!! EDIT: removed excessive punctuation from subject line - BtA
  11. We all knew we needed a LH stick off the bench. Not only did we get that, we got a switch hitter. We also got a guy that played outfield for a while. I like the deal because we didn't give up much. And, we have a guy that can take a pitch or two. Don't understand why people think that this isn't a good deal.
  12. Is it possible that 2 deals are in the works? Weeks to Oakland for Street. Ellis is a free agent (I believe) soon and Weeks could fit in well. I do note that he isn't a high OBP guy, which Beane seems to only trade for guys that take walks. Then Ford to San Fran for Durham. Durham starts at second for the rest of the season. Escobar or Hardy move to second next year and we have a great defensive middle infield for years to come. I like it alot.
  13. Maybe CC hits the cove tonight!!!!
  14. I think if we make the playoffs, Sheets may want to stick around. Sign Sheets. Then trade Hardy and Nelson to Toronto for Halladay. That might be attractive enough for them. Remember, if we trade Prince, we have no left handed power. Gamel would be the only lefty in our starting 8. One thing I think Melvin will address is the balance in the lineup. Having Branyan helped for a while. But I'm afraid he's gonna slow down even more.
  15. I pin this on Ned because of strategy, not the pen use. Although, why 3 different relievers in a 5-0 game? No wonder everybody loses their effectiveness by Sept 1st. Not walking Jackson (.308BA) to load the bases is crazy. Torres is a ground ball pitcher and the ground ball that was hit was an easy DP. And at DP depth, JJ may have forced Upton at home anyway. Who knows? I believe Ned is flipping a coin when he has a decision to make. Not consistent, very random.
  16. He's looking for a sugar mama.
  17. I'm not sure about Brandon Phillips. He's better than Hall, but they remind me so much of each other it's scary. A healthy JJ is an All Star. You can tell his swing is much more aggressive now that he is healthy. They say it's been hurting all season and it's finally feeling better. I move Weeks long before I move JJ. Weeks has the potential, but JJ realized his last year in the first half. We know what JJ can do.
  18. The whole strategy that Ned used with Jackson up was idiotic. The odds of getting out of the ninth at 5-4 are next to nothing without loading the bases by walking Jackson. And, if they would be at DP depth, that single by Jackson would be an easy DP. Plus, why not Stetter for two innings? He was being stretched out to pitch longer in AAA. No reason to give work to guys just for the sake of it. I can't begin to fathom why every reliever outside of Torres and Villy can only pitch one inning. Ned would lose a game of Risk faster than a game of checkers. When he has to think, we lose in a hurry.
  19. I personally prefer Miller High Life to all other Miller products, with Lite bringing up the rear. Still can't figure out why they sell Genuine Draft and not High Life. I'd rather drink ANY other beer (outside of Schlitz) than Miller Lite.
  20. My other reason for trading Laporta is that the outfield defense would be bad with Braun, Hart and Matt in the same outfield. I'm getting spoiled having Cameron this season. This seasons outfield defense has been great overall.
  21. I dont know about giving up Weeks or Hardy right now. We are scoring plenty of runs and both are playing well defensively right now. My offer would be LaPorta, Villy, and a young A level arm. Even if CC and Sheets were to walk after the season, we'd have picks coming from losing them, Cameron, Mota, and Gagne. That seems like 7 or 8 picks in the top 70 next year too. And the rotation could be Gallardo, Parra, Suppan, McClung, and Bush. I would assume DM would add to that rotation.
  22. Peanut Butter and Blackberry Jelly with an ice cold can of Coca Cola.
  23. Buster Olney now says that the Brewers are now the "front runner" in the Sabathia sweepstakes. It states it in his blog. Listed 5 teams with the top chances to snag him. Anything listed next to team names is purely my guess on who could be involved. Sounds fun to try. 1. Milwaukee- Hall, LaPorta or Gamel, and Bush + prospects (probably two more pitchers) 2. Cubs- Gallagher, Pie, and Hill 3. Dodgers- Kemp and Kershaw 4. Rangers- No guess. Not too sure about their prospects. 5. Red Sox- Bucholz, Masterson, and Crisp
  24. I really don't see San Diego giving up when Arizona is emploding and the Dodgers offense is terrible. Teams I would consider out of it right now: Seattle, Kansas City, Washington, Atlanta (injuries), Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Colorado, and San Fran. Pitchers from these teams that would fit the Brewers: Bedard, Batista, Washburn, Meche, Odalis Perez, Snell, Francis, and Cain. Outside of Batista and Washburn, I would consider any of these pitchers. A guy like Odalis Perez could come very cheap. Guys like Bedard and Cain would take quite a bit. * Bedard to Milwaukee for Bush, LaPorta, and Brad Nelson ( I don't want Bedard's attitude here) * Odalis Perez for Iribarren or Gwynn * Snell for Hall (ss for them) and Dillard * Meche for Bush and Brad Nelson * Francis for Gwynn, Bush, and Dillard * Cain for LaPorta, Dillard, and Hall Teams like Toronto, Baltimore, Cleveland, Minnesota, Detroit, and Houston could be on their way to dealing pitching. That's another post.
