    Why is it apparent they intend to go with who they have? It looked like they would go ahead with McGuire as the backup catcher until they signed Sanchez. They signed Quintana late in the offseason last season. Arnold always mentions that the roster is fluid and changes. Urias has to agree to a contract. There are plenty of reasons as to why he hasn't agreed yet. By your logic, no one wants Gallen badly enough either.

    Urias wasn't claimed in November because we had Durbin. I'm repeating it because it isn't difficult to understand why they would not have claimed him then. The Red Sox missed out on Bregman and the price for Paredes was higher than they wanted to pay. The Brewers took advantage of the situation by getting a couple of pitchers that they liked and that very well could help them out this year. Durbin had decent results but poor underlying metrics. It is quite possible that they felt he was due for regression. The Brewers almost went to arbitration with Contreras over 1.4 mil. Of course they would care about 2.5-3 mil in savings if possible. Urias is brought up because he's available, not expensive and very likely would accept a one year contract. You claim that all the free agents left are garbage. Fine. It is easy to be dismissive when you do not suggest realistic alternatives.

    Well probably because Durbin was still on the team in November. What other free agent that can play 3rd base or guy on the roster do you like better?

    He was projected to make 6 million dollars. I'm guessing he will be signing for 3-3.5 mil today.

    An argument could be made to do a platoon with Ortiz as well. Hamilton playing at Fenway was a poor fit for his bat. I'll keep pounding the table that Urias is the move much like I did with Quintana last year. I think people are going to be surprised at how much Hamilton plays this year.

    I think they plan on using him a lot like Hall/Ashby where he comes in for 2-3 innings per appearance.

    I don't like the idea of moving positions on Turang and Ortiz for a platoon bat that will likely be a utility guy after this season. Just seems like too much MLB the Show thinking. Put Hamilton at 3rd and he should be fine there if he is as good defensively as the metrics claim. Hamilton has a stronger arm than Durbin so that shouldn't be a concern. The team absolutely needs to find a platoon partner if they plan on making Hamilton an every day guy. He should get very minimal at bats against LHP. If the team is against a free agent, which I think they shouldn't be, then you have pretty limited options. If you are worried about service time, you probably just bring up Leonard who has decent numbers against LHP. If you aren't worried about service time, Williams has pretty good numbers against LHP.

    If the Brewers didn't plan on being competitive this year, they would not have offered Woody a QO. They might not make the playoffs but they for sure are trying.

    2025 Stats Player A: 2.3 WAR in 378 at bats Player B: 2.2 War in 352 at bats Player A costs more and would require you to trade talent to acquire. Player B is a free agent that would likely accept a reasonable one year contract. Which one would you go for?

    The only thing that is a bummer about this trade is the timeline. In an "ideal world", this trade would have been made after this season when you have more of your top prospects hopefully read to be promoted. I think the team really like Harrison and decided the risk was worth it. Also, it is important to consider that the team might not be as high on Durbin as others. I know defense was a consideration but Dunn and Capra were our starting 3B over him last year.

    Could entirely be wrong but this feels like the Sox called us targeting Durbin

    Only way I would trade for Paredes is if they took Megill for him. I don't think he is a great fit for the team.
