  1. It was at least a good pitch to take a rip at. Just unfortunate that he missed it.
  2. Wait.... did our 8 hole hitter just draw a walk with 2 outs to clear the pitcher?
  3. Adrian Beltre would be rather interesting. Maybe he could give Braun some tips on how to still hit as an old person and Braun would end up having a really good set of years to finish out his contract.
  4. I would take Whit Merrifield, who can actually play 2b, and would be a clear upgrade over anyone we've got for that position defensively and offensively. However, I would not be all that pleased with a move for Moustakas. He would downgrade 3B both defensively and offensively, and from what the article is mentioning push Shaw to 2b, where even with Shaw's solid O, I would have a lot of misgivings about his defense there.
  5. How can it be due to popularity? The Brewers are the most popular MLB team in most of Wisconsin!
  6. Maybe the Brewers have the worst TV contract in all of baseball, so they are the ones going to Facebook? (Not sure what their TV contract actually is, or if there is a ranking among the teams anywhere)
  7. Cain is likely the best defensive CF in the game over the last 5 years, whereas Broxton is "merely" an excellent defensive CF. There were complaints last year about Broxton being "bad" at defense, which I chalk up to him having 2-3 egregious errors in the first half last year that colored people's perception of his overall defensive quality last year.
  8. Though I buy a little bit into the bad luck excuse for Braun, the fact of the matter is, this year he has not had a high average or a high OBP either. I'm fine with him staying 5th, and Cain will be back soon to fix leadoff again.
  9. I would think he'll be a September callup at least. It's always nice to have 3 catchers on the active roster, once that wouldn't have a negative impact on the bench. I imagine the Brewers are still wanting him to work more on the defense, and I for one think Pina will be likely to end up at or near .700 OPS by year end, so having the defense and familiarity with the pitching staff is worth more to me on the ML roster than bringing up Nottingham right now. If Pina drops off from his current mediocre production, I reserve the right to change my mind though...
  10. When did the Brewers pick up Brent Sure (L) P? Edit: That was a fast fix. Good job!
  11. If Arcia hadn't sucked at the plate, then Sogard would have seen less time, and the transactions would've been limited to swapping the 25th man (not counting all of the OF transactions of course) rather than having 5 or 6 different guys play SS already this year. Even hitting to the tune of .230/.260/.330 or something like that would probably have been enough for Arcia to have been locked into the lineup for 140+ games at SS, though it would have still been disappointing after his year last year.
  12. I'd blame Arcia for precipitating most of the moves, much more so than Villar. Villar hasn't been great, but he's not a black hole at least. That said, a 3 person rotation between Saladino, Villar and Miller for 2B and SS is probably the best hope for the next month of getting 6-8 to be respectable in the lineup. I don't really care too too much who the last man on the bench is between Sogard and Orf, but Sogard has not caught any lightning in his bottle this year, so even if I don't really blame him much at all for the Brewers offensive challenges, I'm also not going to complain if/when the Brewers move on from him.
  13. The good news is, though the Reds have been hotter recently, the Brewers have had their number pretty much every game this year. We'll see which wins out this series.
  14. Broxton is light years ahead of perez defensively in the OF, and even though he strikes out more than perez, he walks more as well, so although I'd rate them pretty similarly in terms of not expecting much offensively, he can at least get on base a little better than perez generally.
  15. Has Victor Santos been hanging out with the team lately?
  16. Even the Yankees, who I believe have the best record in all of baseball, have had Neil Walker still appearing on Baseball Reference as their "primary" 1b (he's still got more ABs than any other 1b they've had so far this year), sporting a .533 OPS. Their other 1B haven't been all that good either considering 1b is supposed to be an offensive position. They've got a LF and a C in the low .700s. Obviously it would be great if our middle infield, and especially SS were hitting better, but I'd say it's a lot more "embarrassing" to have 1B OPSing sub .600 than for SS. I say all that to say this: Every team has a hole somewhere.
  17. I think Cain has been a little more critical to the team's success with his CF defense, but clearly the Brewers would not be where they are so far without both him and Aguilar on the team and performing how they've performed so far.
  18. Exactly! It's just important to have the rules going both ways, so that one side can't abuse the other.
  19. Didn't rluzinski (spelling?) post a study on streakiness and found that a streaky offense would outperform a consistent offense, or something similar to that? It was something like a hypothetical exercise rather than a full on comprehensive analysis for 100+ years of baseball or anything, but I remember seeing something like that several years ago.
  20. I believe umpires at their discretion can decline time requests by batters, and if they fail to get in the box can call a ball on them? I seem to recall something to that effect several years back when they updated the rules to not allow batters to step out of the box if they didn't swing at a pitch and some other updates? Although I wouldn't want to implement something where an umpire is just calling strikes as a ball because the pitcher took too long, I would be totally on board with: If batter does not enter the box and set up in appropriate amount of time, they are charged with a strike. And, vice versa, if pitcher fails to deliver a pitch in appropriate time they will be charged with a ball. That would speed up the game, and not be a BS thing of calling a ball as a strike or a strike as a ball based on umpires judgement. I'd also like to see umps grant time less often unless there is a pretty obvious reason to grant it, like a bug in the players face or something.
  21. The Brewers have the best record in the NL at this point, so nothing cocky in that statement!
  22. I think that would be a good idea to go with mid-inning pitching changes. cut down a bit on number of warmup pitches, have the commercial break be 60 seconds and get back to the action.
  23. In additional fairness to Ozuna, at least from camera perspective, he seemed pretty calm too, not like he was hooting and hollering and kicking up a fuss, and that call was pretty bad as previously noted.
  24. Yeah, when we go back and look at full season numbers, Davies has been rather consistent the past 3 years. With his missed time this year, even if he comes back strong, he might not make it to sub 4 again, but I'm pretty confident he will pick up the pace if the rehab starts go well and he's for sure 100% when he comes back. I would be more confident in him getting through 6 on occasion than Suter, which, coming from what I think we'd consider the 5th man in the rotation (if Nelson comes back even close to what he was last year), I'd be pretty happy.
  25. considering how bad he was the first month and a half to two months, good job by Braun getting back (even slightly) to positive.
