  1. I guess I don't think Counsell should be expected to say anything other than what he said. They signed him to DH, and if there is no DH, he's not going to say 'We'll see how bad he is at 1B in February and cut him if we don't like what we see'.
  2. Davis and Pryor are two guys that the eligibility rule is practically designed to help. Lost seasons, basically, due to COVID and injuries, and not good enough as of now to hit the draft in a realistic way. Come back, gain back lost ground and establish yourself as a legit draft prospect and hope for the best. Makes too much sense, IMO.
  3. Moran is really a 3B in name only based on the defensive metrics, but he did grade out well as a 1B.
  4. Wisconsin quietly signed their best recruiting class ever on Wednesday, ranked 16th in the country.
  5. Not great as a young starter, but above average as a reliever in 2019. I'm sure he'd be considered a 2022 bullpen option for little cost.
  6. I think it's hard to say they should do one thing or another with any certainty at this point. A decision needs to be made in 13-14 months, which includes another whole season to see A)how Rodgers continues to perform, and B)how Love continues to develop behind the scenes. A year ago, we thought Rodgers was fading significantly. This year, he's playing MVP level. We should have a good idea a year from now what his trajectory actually looks like...
  7. Only if they're willing to sign him to an extension and basically void their 'out' that they have after next year. Right. You give him a signing bonus, add years, reduce his yearly cap hit, and push the 'out' a few years later. Given this year, I'm not sure that is a bad thing. Looking a bit closer at his contract this morning, his last restructure (last year) actually makes a future restructure really hard. They've deferred so much money, I'm not sure how much more they can realistically defer. They truly are better off moving him after 2021, hard as it may be to believe.
  8. To be clear, this can be completely expected as this was, completely earned/owed to Woodruff, while also being a big deal to the Brewers, especially considering expected finances for this year. They've know this for months, but it still has an impact going forward.
  9. Nothing. Just instead of going to arby 3 times, he goes 4. I mean, nothing other than the significant financial ramifications both now and over the four arbitration years....
  10. Only if they're willing to sign him to an extension and basically void their 'out' that they have after next year.
  11. There's always a day (well, year) of reckoning at some point. The Packers kicked the can a couple of times recently, and there's not much room for movement left without cutting players.
  12. I think this was largely expected, so not surprising news at all. Most offseason payroll projections had included this assumption, FWIW.
  13. They may need to restructure/extend Davante just to have any kind of breathing room with the cap next year. If so, it'd have to be a crazy back-loaded deal.
  14. I hear what you're saying, but very much disagree with the strategy. When you're playing a good QB with a poor secondary, not blitzing simply gives him the time he needs for even slightly above average receivers to get separation from a poor corner or burn a bad safety. Sending pressure will undoubtedly result in some big plays, but it's better than letting a guy like Brees comfortably sit back and shred you 15 yards at a time because he can just wait back there.
  15. Interestingly, Barnes has graded out very poorly by PFF. Like really bad. Kirksey has also graded out really bad, only slightly better than Barnes. Both rank in the bottom 10 of ILBs. Not bottom 10%, the actual bottom 10. Not good. Martin has graded much better, and above average at this point. He hasn't been on the field enough due to the injury to actually qualify for their positional rankings, though.
  16. Aaaaaand he hired Drew Rosenhaus.
  17. If you stick with just season 1 of True Detective you'll love it. Started this last night, and I'm absolutely hooked after 1.5 episodes. Is it truly best to just stop after Season 1? Are there any redeeming qualities of 2 or 3?
  18. I saw that yesterday. I'm guessing the team and his agents didn't even come close to agreeing on an extension. With Bahk signed and the Packers needing to extend Adams after next season, I don't see Jones coming back unless they franchise tag him, and I don't see that happening. Based on where they're at with the cap right now, I don't think they have the money to franchise him.
  19. Quoting the above one more time for emphasis. Spot on. It's very true that payroll is going to be a reflection of overall revenues. Owners do not expect or want to lose money, certainly not in the long-term. However, revenues are a main driver of franchise values. The more revenue generating capabilities for a franchise, the more it's going to be worth. Good clarifying point- I read the post I quoted to read more towards 'the payroll is a function of operating revenue, but payroll is not a product of franchise value.'
  20. I'll agree with this point as well. Through the first ~10 games of the season, it felt like we were using the old Dom Capers "defend a good QB, don't blitz" mantra. Over the past few games they've definitely been blitzing waaaaaay more and that has yielded much better results. I still think the larger point regarding talent level vs. production is very real. They've got a couple of holes on the line, and work-in-progress at MLB. Everywhere else, the talent level is good yet the defense yields poor results. That is undeniably scheme and coaching.
  21. Quoting the above one more time for emphasis. Spot on.
  22. Bielema at Illinois would scare me. He's a good recruiter, and he'd almost surely try to use his contacts from Wisconsin to get some guys out of here. Honestly, the hire makes too much sense for Illinois.
  23. The defense has quietly tightened up a bit as the season has gone on. Hard to know whether that's just the result of playing crappier offenses, though. I do agree with Brew4U that the bigger issue lately has been the horrendous special teams play. We walk away with both the game yesterday and the Philly game if they don't give up devastating long returns in each of those games.
  24. But I assume you're not from one of those tribes? If my assumption is correct, you have no ability to know what actual people from those tribes think about that, right?
  25. Or maybe they actually DO find it offensive and want it to change.
