  1. I'd agree on Gimenez. He seems to be a solid defensive 3B, with the potential to be a good middle IF. Problem is, his bat projects like a middle IF. If he had Davis's potential with the bat, he's a legit get, but with that profile the Mets wouldn't trade him. There's a lot of issues I have with Davis beyond JUST the defensive problem. 2021 is basically his age 28 season now, so he's not young, he's arby eligible after next season I believe and thus won't be all that cheap. He's a nice part of a larger deal if the NL adopts the DH, but with the current working assumption that they won't, he's not a fit. As turbo noted, a Mets deal has to include Dom Smith, IMO.
  2. Davis makes sense for the Brewers only if there’s a DH long term. He’s horrible at 3rd. Like Ryan Braun horrible at 3rd.
  3. I refused to believe that's the case, even though that's probably the case.
  4. Indiana football shut down this afternoon due to COVID. I think we can all guess what happens next....
  5. Didn't say that he wasn't a good pitcher. As 2019's WAR was twice the WAR he's typically averaged in a season, it's nearly the definition of an outlier. As others noted, it is possible he figured something out. Whether that will continue through his mid to late 30s now remains to be seen.
  6. Though I can't disagree with your point at all adam, I think mine is more to the effect of wondering when the real sweet spot is now going forward. I think there's a weird inverted bell curve-like situation unfolding where he's probably worth more in trade if we wait a bit again. I'm just not sure when that next hypothetical max value comes up....
  7. Your point is 100% factually correct and noteworthy. But it's impossible not to also look at his stats and observe that this includes a fluky-looking outlier season at age 32 that accounted for 30% of his CAREER bWAR.
  8. You do have to wonder where the 'law of diminishing returns' sits on a Hader deal right now. Normally, you'd assume that the longer you hold him, the less value you'd receive (especially as he gets more expensive each year). But with the current market environment for baseball and payrolls, you really have to wonder if they wouldn't be better off holding for now vs. taking a more limited return than they'd otherwise receive.
  9. Part of the 'issue' is that once every 20 years or so, the NFL seems to have a single draft that puts 3-4 NFL HOF- caliber QBs into the league. 1983 with Elway/Marino/Kelly, 2004 with Manning/Roethlisberger/Rivers. The difference is that in following 1983, those guys played for like 12-15 years. Now, as someone else alluded to, the life of a QB extends closer to 15-20, which really skews that stat leader boards.
  10. Couldn’t find it more funny that it turned into a Lance Lynn trade.
  11. I just don't think the NFL HOF is that important. Well, I don't think that's fair. Granted, I don't understand what they did last summer in letting a bunch of random guys in. But beyond that, I think their choices are usually fairly logical.
  12. The Packers actually have really good personnel to run a hybrid, as Z/Preston Smith could easily work as 4-3 DEs when not playing 3-4 LB.
  13. I really can't believe we're in a world where Phillip Rivers is a HOF QB. I know it looks like it'll head that way, but I still can't come to grips with that.
  14. I appreciate your disclaimer that you're not stating this as anything beyond your inclination. But I'll again state my view that it doesn't seem like the logical inclination here to believe that it didn't 'help at any significant level'. At a minimum, it did seem to 'flatten the curve' in the initial wave, and it undoubtedly bought time between then and the current explosion of cases to figure out how to treat cases better medically and to buy additional time for the seemingly imminent vaccine. I can't factually quantify it, but I'd personally be astounded if that didn't help reduce deaths at a significant level.
  15. With Vic Fangio reportedly on the hot seat in Denver, my hope is that they keep losing and can him and we hire him as DC. He may fail hard as a head coach, but he's a fantastic DC.
  16. It's impossible to speak with certainty, but I'd be surprised if the lock downs didn't reduce transmissions/death numbers somewhat significantly. Obviously, that's IMO, but it seems the logical conclusion. I think it's also logical to conclude that a lock down that was applied better/had more teeth/had better compliance would have yielded better results to that end. I think it's also logical to conclude that OSS's overall point of 'people are making poor decisions and that would have spread the virus anyway' would have been true regardless (outside of a legitimate full lock down). But to suggest that the measures that were taken didn't have some positive effect on the death numbers doesn't seem the logical conclusion.
  17. You don't think that his off-the-field issues will cause him problems in this regard? I know it was posed to me but I help but stop and think, does the majority of people even know he had any off-field issues in his past? Other than a random tweet I run across with him, I don't know if I ever even see it mentioned. Valid points, but to my original point, I think it keeps him out initially. There'll be enough voters who vote no on the first ballot based on that point alone, let alone his mediocre numbers.
  18. It's not subjective and arbitrary when there are literally widely-used & accepted stats to measure relative performance like this. Instead, citing WHIP and K/BB ratio? There are simply better ways now to evaluate players than stats like this that were cutting edge 25 years ago. And comparing a player to an All-Star selection in a year is flawed for a number of reasons, most notably because A)All-stars are selected mid-year and based on mid-year performance, and B)No one would argue that all All-star selections are deserving of said selection in the first place. If they also hadn't performed at a high level in three seasons and were still recovering from an injury, there probably would be similar concern. But, apples/oranges. Again, the intention isn't to knock Knebel unfairly. It's to ensure that there's a clear understanding of what his performance was as a Brewer and of what his legacy should be. In the end, he was an above-average reliever who was absolutely elite one year, but hasn't been so for three seasons and is at a currently unknown stage of his recovery from an arm injury.
  19. You don't think that his off-the-field issues will cause him problems in this regard?
  20. I've long struggled with Roethlisberger as a HOFer for a number of reasons, but he probably does get in eventually. Beyond that, has the league changed enough for recency bias to actually start hurting guys like Ryan, Stafford, Eli, etc.? Their numbers are good historically and in many cases will put them above HOFers on the leaders lists, but does anyone REALLY look at Phil Rivers and say 'Pro Football HOFer?'
  21. Quick thoughts: 1)Obviously, not great to let them back in the game at the end after dominating for the first 50 minutes of the game. We do seem to let the foot off the gas too early, and today was illustrative of that. One Eagles drive vs. a prevent defense, followed by a three-and-out and terrible return TD, and we're lucky it didn't bite us in the butt like it did today for Chicago. 2)Special teams must play better. Missed XP, long punt return to make it a game, long kick return (PLUS a penalty) after the 'dagger' TD to make it un-daggered a bit. Horrible. Kudos to the Eagles for missing an XP that would have made things even more nerve-wracking. 3)Pass rush was great today- 7 sacks. Maybe that's enough to show Pettine that rushing the passer leads to good things? I know we have a good secondary. But they're even better when the QB is under duress. 4)Savage has made major strides as the year has gone on, and I believe he's becoming a top-tier safety. 5)Kudos to A)Preston Smith for his monster last few games in response to his terrible first-half season, and B)Rashan Gary for his continued development and solid performance. Honorable mention to Keke, who has played well this year in his snaps. 6)Not much more you can say about Rodgers, who is likely the MVP favorite right now, and in a two-man race with Maholmes now that Wilson/the Seahawks are fading a bit. Crazy good game to continue a great season for a guy that looked to be on the slide the last few seasons. 7)I'll admit that I haven't watched a single Cardinals game to see Hopkins play this year, but if there's a better receiver in the NFL right now other than Adams, I'd find it hard to believe. We've had a lot of great receivers come through Green Bay in the last 30 years of the team's success, and Adams might be the best of them not named Sharpe. And even that may be debatable by the end of his time here.... 8)I said it earlier in the thread, but Tonyan has really become the TE we wanted Jimmy Graham to be for us. Huge match up problem for defenses, great red zone threat, and able to catch well in space in the middle of the field. What a great season for him so far. On to the final quarter of the season. Two division road games and a tough one vs. the Titans, and I won't sleep on the Panthers either.
  22. Savage is becoming a really good safety. Nice assist to Preston hitting the arm.
  23. Nice stand by the defense there...
