  1. I have no doubt that whatever choice they make with Arcia will be the wrong one, just because it seems that much of a toss-up to me. Keep him in the job, and he'll stay below replacement level. Let him go, and I have little doubt that he'll flourish and they gave up on him too early, just like Segura.
  2. Didn't he allow 2 inherited runners to score on Sunday? Or am I missing something Sure did... thanks Baseball Reference
  3. I don't believe the Brewers will win out. They have at least one loss left maybe two. I just don't see the Brewers making up that 1 game difference. Don’t need to win out, just need to win one more than the Nats. Cleveland will bring it as they’re fighting to get in still.
  4. Yep. It's often games like these where you're supremely confident going in that end up as a stunning loss.
  5. That '08 run was so great, it'd be a shame if it wasn't honored somehow.
  6. Both of these things can't be true, IMO. The Pirates are going to want a lot of a guy in his prime with 3 years of control and a nearly .950 OPS this year. But yes, guys like Thames and Davies have zero value to the Pirates in such a trade.
  7. I'm fairly convinced that Seattle might just not be very good. Their offense has been smoke-and-mirrors since Lynch left a few years back.
  8. Have you never played competitive baseball? Laugh all you want, but that play is made often, and not just by big leaguers. Couldn't disagree more, honestly. That's a hit the vast majority of the time, IMO.
  9. Holy hell. This was the one time I actually wanted Chicago to win.
  10. Reading through this thread after the fact and you’d never know this was a win where the Packers never trailed.
  11. So, Yelich. Please move the Cole discussion to someplace more appropriate. Like the thread specifically about Cole. Thanks
  12. They're also a great example of why you don't make a desparate trade to try and salvage a season that isn't there. The Archer trade is truly horrible- was at the time, is even more so now, and the Pirates have nothing positive to show for it.
  13. The belief that a player can’t express happiness without results is bewildering to me. He has results. They're the least productive results in baseball among regulars. I'm not asking for a Paul O'Neil meltdown everytime he makes an out, but a little balance might be merited. I guess we’ll disagree, then. I want better results at the SS position, but I couldn’t care less that Arcia enjoys himself while playing.
  14. I'm glad he's happy. I just wish his play justified it. The belief that a player can’t express happiness without results is bewildering to me. I doubt being a lot more scowl-y makes him pleasant to be around in the clubhouse.
  15. Well by BRef WAR Didi is 4x better than Arcia...so I guess it’s all in how you view it. It also requires you to assume a player like that will actually become a free agent. You’re far more likely to end up with a guy like Mercer who gives you not much for a higher cost.
  16. Did I say I was expecting Machado? Nope An MLB player would be nice though. So slightly less terrible but way more expensive? Yippeee!
  17. So what you're saying is that you're good with Saladino as the starting SS? Because that (or likely an equivalent) is what we are liking looking at. We aren't going to see Turang until sometime in 2021 at the earliest. There are multiple free agents better than both Arcia and Saladino. I think you’re going to be very disappointed in the SS production next year if you think that.
  18. I dislike the day games because I can't watch at work, but I did like the 3:00 start as I could see the finish, at the very least. Added perk of the day game is we know how this day will end- we're guaranteed to gain a 1/2 game on WC 1, and either be in sole possession of WC 2 or gaining a game on the division. Nice, no matter how you look at it.
  19. Carlson commits as well! Now the #4 class in the nation, #1 in the Big 10.
  20. 11th ranked class in the country right now, I believe.
  21. I'm with you, Joey. I'm fine with this if it's a typical Steelers' late-in-the-first pick, but they could be giving up a top 5-10 pick for him here.
  22. On baseball message boards you can't express opinions without citing lots of statistics. I knew people would be outraged. It doesn't bother me in the least though as I know the opinion is correct. Probably not an ideal mindset as you start out here.
  23. You doubled down on this phrase, and I'm not a fan.
  24. Do you have any statistical evidence that this is accurate and/or that it happens more than league average or is this just your opinion? Watch the games bro. If you think Hook needs to stay which is what you said we disagree. We shall see what happens. I say he's gone. I think there's real danger at looking at full season stats in this case and ignoring ignificant recent improvement. That may indicate delayed buy-in.
