  1. That's a very unfair way of characterizing that side of the stance. Cain has showed some significant signs of age-related decline this year, the 2nd of a 5-year deal. There were already concerns regarding what the production would be in the back half of the contract, which are well-documented in the signing thread from winter 2018. I think those that are interested in trading him are interested because though he might be productive in year 3, there are very legitimate questions regarding whether he'll be a high-priced albatross in years 4 and 5.
  2. Gilbert had a lot of hype because of preseason sacks, but never translated it into anything more than a Travis Jervey-like preseason star.
  3. I agree completely with this part of your post. We all knew the back half of that contract could be ugly. I think there's signs it could be worse than we thought. I wouldn't be willing to eat any money, but I'd certainly trade him if someone showed interest.
  4. Wilkerson and Saladino open two 40-man spots fairly cleanly.
  5. Thanks for putting that together! I have a hard time believing we can't declare winners even though Broxton ISN'T A MET anymore, but accepting that you're making negative decisions already on deals that happened 26 days ago. I won't challenge seven of your losses. But, Soria had negative WAR but put in valuable innings during his time here and had a 2.93 FIP. He was extraordinarily unlucky, which reflected in his WAR. Drake wasn't good, but calling a cash trade for him a loss is a bit of a stretch when he put in 52 positive-war innings in 2017 for the team. Most of the in-season trades are impossible to grade at this point, so I'd exclude them all together. Pulling the record from your post to a more reasonable 14-7-5, I see 73% of trades that worked out acceptably well or better for the Brewers. So fair enough, I overshot the bar by 0.70 batting average points. But I'll take 73% as close enough to 4 of every 5 trades in my book. (And I'd bet on the Kratz/Petricka trades 'pushing' that to 75% )
  6. Why are you limiting it to trades within the last 10 months?
  7. Ah, sorry. With so quick and vehement a denial, I assumed you had already done the research.
  8. I would absolutely disagree that 4 out of every 5 trades he made was a "win" or whatever metric you use for his batting average. Kindly show your work, then. I’d bet my math is pretty close to correct.
  9. Yeah, that whole "trading four prospects who have amounted to diddly squat so far for the best player in the NL on a team friendly deal" was a real head scratcher from Stearns. I totally forgot that was the only trade he's made so far.... Good thing his batting average on trades is like .800....
  10. I also think this is the correct choice. There's a chance Mertz Bollingers his way into the starting role later in the year, but hopefully Coan takes the job and runs with it.
  11. Absolutely. They clearly need to acquire a quality arm and address the bullpen, but they'll be contenders in 2020.
  12. I know injuries are a part of the story for everyone, but you really have to wonder where this team would be if Woodruff hadn't been injured. I think it's plausible to think things would look a lot better than they do now otherwise.

  15. I don't have a horse in the 'team quit or not' debate, but hasn't like half of that Dunne article been challenged/debunked at this point?

  18. Unless you look at statistical facts, which show he’s not. Offensively? Sure. 100% fair. But overall? Nope. Simply dismissing the facts-based point others are making doesn’t make your view factually accurate in this case.
  19. To have a terrible defensive player in the OF for 8 innings instead of 9? It's not all about dingers anymore. Counting stats are great, but the reality is that Santana has eroded most of his offensive value so far this year by 'playing' his bat.
  20. As sveum rules notes, that's not the whole story. Santana is one of those rare guys who are so bad defensively that it erodes a large portion of their offensive value. Gamel's counting stats don't look better, but he's actually having a better overall season as far as total production/value.
  21. Last warning. Any more crap like this regardless of your side, and you'll no longer be welcome here. Too many threads going off the rails with personal attacks and childish behavior.
  22. As someone who was cautiously interested in AB this offseason, the helmet nonsense is a nice reminder of the massive baggage you’re dealing with there....
  23. Well, their take probably isn't wrong. The Brewers don't have the luxury of waiting for him to figure it out on the MLB roster, but he's had a whopping 15ABs the last 6 weeks, which isn't a lot of time to show whether you're figuring it out or not. This is clearly the right move, but it IS still a small sample.
  24. I mean, I suppose it's possible to root for a team to lose while rooting for a player on said team to still do well. But I also think it's fair to question whether those interests inherently don't lineup real well. But I don't fault Lucroy for wanting to win, and I certainly don't think the Brewers did him ill in a way that should cause Lucroy or fans of him to want him to 'stick it to the organization' or anything like that either.
  25. Related question, if Cephus HADN'T applied at UW, and instead applied at say Northern Illinois, I'm assuming he'd have to sit out a year per the transfer rules, right? He missed a year of FB already... I'd think coming back to UW where he'd hypothetically be able to play right away again (which I assume would be the case) might be the most logical reason for why he'd stay here regardless.
