  1. Two major ways I disagree with everything posted above- first, you're assuming that your own draft board matches with the other teams behind the Packers. If they wanted Gary and had reason to believe that another team wanted him, your trade-back scenario plays out in speculation only. As for another option, without knowing the Packers' board, it's very possible if not likely that they had Gary ranked enough ahead of the next tier of guys like Burns/Sweat/etc. that they didn't value the trade down there as much as you did. Second, that PFF article is weak. They rank him vs. the other Edge guys in the draft based on his pass rushing stats, while failing to acknowledge that he DIDN'T ACTUALLY PLAY EDGE in college. Maybe, just maybe, Winovich's numbers as an Edge are better since he actually played Edge? It's the equivalent of defending a thesis that Sean Jones was a better defensive end for the Packers than Santana Dotson was. Well, no crap. Only one of them actually played defensive end.
  2. I came into the offseason thinking the Packers had to fill six major holes- both safeties, RG, 2 Edge guys, and a slot receiver, and build depth on the OL, at TE, etc. They clearly addressed both edge holes, both safety positions, RG, and TE/o-line depth through tonight. I'd expect depth picks in the secondary/RB/WR yet tomorrow as well. A pretty good offseason for the Packers as they reload. I'm still hoping there's a veteran slot guy they can grab to help with the younger guys, but they've really addressed a lot of needs.
  3. Yep. That's why all the wailing about Irv Smith before the draft is even over is misguided. Big fan of the Sternberger pick.
  4. Or maybe, just maybe, their board is different than yours.
  5. A coworker of mine is a huge Michigan fan, and he gave me some thoughts on Gary this morning: He confirmed the Packers' take on his lack of production- he was often the focus of the offense's blocking scheme, and a big reason for why guys like Winovich were able to make plays. Regarding the Wonderlic, as noted, he's a 2x Academic All-Big Ten and a film rat who put in the work off the field to improve his game. He had no concerns about his ability to adapt to the NFL or a shift to LB if that's the plan. This coworker is also a Vikings fan, so he's not saying that through Green-and-Gold colored glasses either. Take it FWIW.
  6. I was leery of drafting guys like Smith and Metcalf in the 1st, especially when Metcalf was somewhat crazily linked to us at 12, but they'd be really good value in the 2nd, IMO. Greedy Williams was the top corner in the draft at one point earlier this offseason. I expect someone will grab him quickly tonight, but if he makes it to the Pack I wouldn't be stunned if that's where they go.
  7. The Packers made the point in one of the pressers last night that they felt that Gary's production was down because he was drawing doubles and triples, freeing up other guys to make the actual plays. Their point was that even if the numbers didn't always jump out, he was impacting the game that way.
  8. Sounds like there is concern about a knee issue for Taylor...
  9. Why is Jawaan Taylor falling?
  10. Plugged another hole at safety and added a fantastic athlete that could be great. Very content with this night.
  11. Where is all this ‘2nd Rounder at best’ stuff coming from? He was 20th overall on Kiper’s board. Just because you haven’t heard of him doesn’t mean it’s not a good pick....
  12. No one is advocating for trading their pick for a pick next year and not 'staying within the draft.' What we're supportive of is a move like they made last year- moving down 3-5 spots and grabbing a 1st next year IN ADDITION. That's a sound strategy, but so is grabbing extra 2nd-day picks if that works too.
  13. Yes, please. We'd probably have to throw a 3rd back their way, but holy crap that'd be an exciting first day. EDIT: Actually, 12 and 75 is almost perfect for 24 and 27- 1415 vs. 1420.
  14. I think the way the QB board is set out this year makes this a great opportunity for the Packers. With the Fins right behind them, you'd have to think Washington or the Giants would be really interested in jumping them to get 'their guy' at QB before the Fins have the chance. Trading with Washington to either grab their 3rd which is right behind the Packers' 3rd or a high 2020 pick sounds like a good plan to me. So, Packers get 15 and 76, Washington gets 12 and 118. 1260 vs. 1258 on the value chart, and a nice set of picks for the Pack.
  15. For the last time, please keep Kimbrel discussion in Kimbrel threads. Obviously, there can be some relevant crossover, but this goes way beyond that, once again.
  16. This! Which is why I'll be livid if it's interior defensive lineman like Oliver, Q. Williams, If they have a chance to take one of those two and pass, I'll be equally livid. They're impact players on the line. They almost certainly won't have the chance, though.
  17. I do think it's worth questioning whether he should automatically be put in the middle of the order when he's in. Granted, with Jesus and Shaw hitting poorly as well, there aren't a ton of other options, but it feels like Braun would be a better fit at 6-7, at least until he starts drawing walks again.
  18. I'm a huge fan of Oliver and hope he's somehow there at 12, or slides to 10 or so where we can move up without breaking the bank. Absent that, however, I support a possible trade down if a QB falls and someone wants to move up a few and we can grab an extra 2nd-day pick.
  19. What a weird grouping of home games early. Five of our first seven games?
  20. Can't Joey make a claim for a medical redshirt as well?
  21. Again, you're just making up numbers. Where is your 20 million number for tax and interest coming from? I can do similar math: 66 operating income, subtract 60 million for tax and interest, = $6million, likely what they have available to add at the deadline. Which of us is wrong?
  22. Great, thanks for sharing. But as it has been made clear previously, operating income alone tells you very little.
  23. You’re applying theory of fairly liquid assets to ownership in an entity that a select few can purchase. A house has a readily available market. So does that artwork, or even that building. How many people can truly afford to buy a 46 billion dollar franchise like the Yankees? Bill Gates and Warren Buffett? You may well be right, but I think it’s dangerous to universally apply a theory like this without actually knowing it’s true. Far too much talking in absolutes in this thread without actually knowing real numbers and mechanisms for my liking.
  24. Jim, do you have factual knowledge that this theory applies in this case, or are you assuming that because it works for stuff like home equity that you can also do it with a baseball team?
  25. For the last time, unless you have a link, this is pure speculation. FORBES VALUES DO NOT INDICATE PROFITS, and as many others have pointed out, OPERATING INCOME DOES NOT EQUAL PROFITS. You DO NOT know what the Brewers cleared, unless you are privy to info that isn't public to my knowledge. I don’t know about 2012, but last 6 years I’m guesstimating nice profits. 15 and 16 more than nice. So “if you remember correctly,” you guesstimate 120+ million profits?
