  1. Considering that Stroman has been better than every starter on the Brewers not named Woodruff, I think he'd pencil in nicely as a great #2.
  2. Lyles seems like an odd hill to die on... the Brewers assumed that Lyles, at his career norms, wasn't worth the money owed. After a great start in a very small sample, he's reverted to his career norms. Seems like the Brewers made the right choice at the time based on that.
  3. Clancy, every single one of us, athletes certainly included, loses range, speed, and athleticism as we get older. That Moose played SS is A BALL means virtually nothing now, so many years later.
  4. Has there been any real indication that the Dbacks are desperate to dump Greinke's contract? Even if they were, would they package a trade asset like Ray with him and seriously devalue the return just to do so?
  5. You have two more years of Yelich before you need to consider moving him. Enjoy the two seasons, then the status of the team following 2021 tells you what the path forward is.
  6. I don't think the season is over, but they're down to just 2.5 weeks to decide whether they buy or sell. The worst thing they can be is stuck in the middle, so hopefully for everyone they rip off a 8 of 10-game winning streak or something like that.
  7. Man, every single in-game move the Brewers make right now blows up in their face.
  8. Arcia is an exceptional glove man and has a little bit of pop in his bat. I don't know why you think it's as easy as just going to the Hall of Fame Baseball Player store and buying a shortstop or pitcher or whomever, but you do you. Sure it is, you just have to be willing to meet other teams prices. Stearns hasn't really shown that much of a willingness to do that in the past to this point. If you want to spend Walmart prices, then you get Walmart quality. No, no, no. You also have to have stuff to trade, and the Brewers have limited resources. This isn’t a video game. Resources ARE limited.
  9. I heard a rumor that his wife is pregnant, so take that FWIW.
  10. Sigh. I have zero issues with Dubon headed back down. I have a ton of problems with it, though, if it means that Saladino can start at short....
  11. I think they could move Chacin and get salary relief and maybe a lottery ticket or two. I'd be REALLY interested to see if they look to move Cain. He's obviously a large part of the team's success last year, but that contract is looking like a 'hold my beer' level albatross over the next few years. It'd be interesting to see if they'd to a swap for another larger contract like Grienke with some team that isn't good at baseball-ing.
  12. Probably so. They do have nearly three weeks to see where the cards fall (no pun intended), but they're likely going to have to decide whether pursuit of that ceiling is even realistic and worth emptying what's left of the farm, or whether reloading makes more sense.
  13. This puts it well. They counted on a lot of players to be better than they have been (and have been far worse than last year), and they put up a good fight before the wheels have come off. Sometimes it just doesn't work out. Accept, regroup, reload.
  14. This is a reasonable take. The worst thing they can do is be the Pirates from last year, kind of in it and enticed to give up some of what they have left to plug holes in a boat that is beyond repair. Of course the Pirates tried to plug their boat the stupidest way possible last year, so the bar is set pretty low.
  15. Or maybe, just maybe, he's a better talent evaluator than you are in your living room and realized that they didn't have the horses to win regardless of what minor crap deals they might have been able to pull off last week?
  16. Yes, Stearns obsessive compulsive disorder with regards to Depth, has hurt the organization this year. The stupid bullpen shuttle(Barnes Williams Wilson Petricka etc.) Is a good example. That same strategy worked very, very well for them last year.
  17. I'll just say that I pretty much disagree with everything stated in this post, while agreeing with everything Jim stated in this one:
  18. Arcia WAS a problem last year, but he is performing better this year offensively. If his defense matched previous seasons, he'd be having a good year as a SS. The question is, what happened with the D? Clearly, he didn't lose the ABILITY to play good defense, so I'm sure the org is trying to get the message home that he needs to play his position better, which is very possible for him to do. It seems counterintuitive to bash Arcia and his.5 WAR this year while defending Ryan Braun and his .6 WAR, when one is in the decline of his career and the other still has potential.
  19. And it's clear as day. Also clear as day is Arcia isn't remotely close to being an elite defender. If he was than Saladino wouldn't have been called up with Perez being DFA'd. You can live with Arcia's insanely inconsistent bat if he's playing elite defense. But he's not. Prior to Dubon tearing his ACL (May 2018) his grades were 55/40/60/55/55. It mirrors his performance at every level as well. That's easy Top 150 but because he wasn't a 1st/2nd rd pick or touted international signing he gets looked over. It's fair for his power/run/fielding grades to drop this year given you have to wait and see how the injury affects his play but it appears that he's right back where he left off. Since May 9 he's slashing 336/373/938 (124 wrc+) lowering his K rate to 12.7%. Dubon has 6yrs cheap control and is ready to take over at SS. Arcia has 3.5yrs left, was sent to AAA twice last year and 2.5 months into this season Saladino was called up to take away half his starts thus far. I still think Arcia is a starting MLB SS. I just don't think he should be our starting SS moving forward given Dubon is ready. I just don't see Arcia as being the problem with our offense this year. He's a SS who plays good (not elite this year) defense and has an OPS over .700. Though possible, I doubt that a rookie middle IF not named Hiura is going to outproduce that in their first big league stint.
  20. For all of the valid (or invalid) theories about why this team has underperformed, this one doesn't get discussed enough. Many predicted that Cain would slide over the length of his contract, but I don't know if anyone in the fanbase or FO could have envisioned him going from All-Star/MVP candidate-level production to replacement level in just one year.
  21. The funny thing is, the Cubs are only mediocre because of the bad moves they made to win one WS which drastically cut the window they had. A team like Milwaukee has to have more balance. If you want to go all in and win one just to win one like the 108-year drought team did, it will likely come at the cost of success beyond that.
