  1. Baseball Reference has him at 0.1 WAR for 2018, FWIW. And again, it goes back to how you define productive. He’s 24 and hasn’t been below replacement level in his full seasons in MLB. I think expecting Dubon to be more “productive” than that should be viewed with some skepticism.
  2. I guess it may be semantics to decide on the definition of 'productive MLB player,' but he's been above replacement level every year (yes, including 2018) other than his partial first-year of 2016. When you perform better throughout almost your entire career than the guys you can plug in at the position each offseason, I DO think that's a productive MLB player....
  3. Come on, man. Making the 'I can state whatever I want because YOU DON'T KNOW FOR SURE it's wrong case is weak. What I DO know is that you've historically demonstrated a lack of understanding about how corporate finance works. That's not a personal dig, it's just that you can't go around blasting a point at full volume when you simply don't have all the facts. Sure, tout your opinion that they could support a $165 million payroll. Just don't assume or argue anything that suggests you're certainly right, or that the other side is certainly wrong.
  4. We've won the 8th most games in MLB since Attanasio hired Stearns. I think they share the "blame" for that in some proportion (along with Counsell & the players themselves & the rest of the field staff & front office). The Stearns hiring was brilliant on Attanasio’s part. He hired a boy genius that re-built this team with help from Melvin’s all time record hader houser Phillips Santana Trade, among other moves, in near record time. Avoiding a tank that would cost the team lots of revenue. My guess is Stearns has made Attanasio over 150 million in the last 3 years if playoff revenue is included. 2.5-3 million fans year after year, 20-60 million in profits every year. All we are is a fan, that continues to overperform their market size to the extreme. It’s laughable how much this fan base supports this team, and, that’s it’s NOT reciprocated with a payroll deserving of said fan. 127 million is embarrassing. We’ve been through the financial discussions with you time and time again, and you just won’t acknowledge that it’s not as simple as you insist that it is.
  5. YEAH! Make the playoffs only twice and turn a long window into a much shorter one! MORE OF THAT!!!!!
  6. Well, that’s one way to look at it I guess. I completely disagree, other than that he likely should be shut down this week.
  7. I do this trade tomorrow, FWIW.
  8. Yeah, it's Tom's wording there creating the confusion. He meant 'couldn't turn down being optioned,' as Lathund noted.
  9. Maybe, but it won't be until they acquire another righty hitting 1B first. Aguilar is the only bat that can legitimately play that role while starting vs. LHP. Until they acquire a better alternative, he's probably going to get a long leash to figure it out.
  10. No, I think you missed my point, which is that you suggest that the organization should be 'doing what is owed to the fans'. That's a terrible way to manage a baseball team. The second Stearns does something because the 'fans want it', he loses credibility as an objective manager of talent.
  11. Fans often think they know better than the FO, and they are rarely right.
  12. But he's truly been sooo poor on defense that it has eroded HALF of his offensive value. I agree that it's not typically significant enough to be a huge issue, but guys like him and Khrush are so bad it truly does matter, and a LOT. It's extraordinarily telling that despite Domingo's counting stats, Gamel has had half the value as Domingo despite half the playing time.
  13. For as tough as this 10-game stretch has been for the Brewers, the Cubs have only been one game better over that time.
  14. Ummm ... I'm not buying what you're selling. Look at those stats once again! It's not even close! There are much better, more accurate ways to evaluate players than on HR's and batting average. Gamel and Santana have actually had similar value to their respective teams at this point in the season, despite the fact that one is a starter and the other a 4th OF. And like Dhonks said, the Brewers got Zavolas as well. Factoring all of that in, the Brewers are probably ahead on the scorecard if you feel the need to look at it that way.
  15. I don’t think the Mariners feel it was a complete bust.... Santana has at least been productive-ish with the bat, despite being a DH-only type player.
  16. Are you aware Shaw has options, has an OPS like 100 points lower, and doesn’t play nearly the defense Cain does? I think Brew4U's point is that for a board that typically prides itself on not overreacting to small sample sizes, there is a lot of wailing over YTD 2019 numbers while ignoring everything else.
  17. I think Doug Melvin publically said something to this effect during his tenure. I think 'winning a trade' is something fans are bent on quantifying, but I don't think front offices are. They probably just don't want to end up having it look like a robbery down the line.
  18. Yep, on HBO.
  19. Yep, released two weeks ago to finish the series. All of the (still living) cast returned to finish it out.
  20. Deadwood came up earlier in the thread, so I'm surprised there wasn't some talk about the (ridiculous delayed) movie to finally end the series. Obviously, the show ended too early initially for no apparent reason, so having the opportunity to truly end the series with actual resolution was nice as a fan of the show. I thought it was well done considering the circumstances, and I thought the ending fit the tone of the series despite the delay. Also, while on the topic of HBO shows, the Chernobyl miniseries was fascinating. A must-watch if you're looking for something quick this summer (only 5 episodes). Jared Harris has become one of my favorite "he's in everything and great at it" actors.
  21. I'd suggest following Mass Haas @Mass_Haas, and/or Toby @YouKnowAndThat. They put out good Brewer content anyway, but posted updates on the status while the site was down as well.
  22. But I doubt very much that the Indians do. If they would, I'd certainly be on board.
  23. How does that mistake get made??
  24. That makes very little sense to me. If you don't think the reason for the move doesn't include the words 'Shaw' and 'Super 2' and instead includes the words 'CC' or 'bullpen', I'd imagine you're off-base. I don’t think so. If we had a 12 man pitching staff, he’d still be up, would’nt he? If you think that's an absolute, you're not giving the 'Super 2' part of my post the weight it probably has in this decision. I honestly think that's 85% of the reason for this move.
