  1. Unless I'm reading the contract structure wrong (which is very possible), I don't think the cap impact for the Packers would be all that bad- they'd assume his $12.6m base, but the Steelers have to absorb his bonuses. Depending on the timing, the acquiring team may or may not be on the hook for his $2.5 mil roster bonus. Considering that the Packers have a LOT of cap space this year, I don't think a $12.5-15 million hit would be prohibitive at all.
  2. Mini-bump, as the Steelers are going to be trading Brown for sure and have put some parameters out there for a Brown trade- preferred to the NFC, etc. I'm torn, honestly. I think this is the type of move that could really improve the offense, but the cost is obviously what matters. Not sure what I'd be willing to give up.... #30 is probably what Pittsburgh would ask for. Wonder if you could do 30 for Brown and their 3rd (#83)?
  3. Agreed with Joey. This is a move that would truly be all-in.
  4. To be fair, though, you’ve done quite a job of telling us how right you think you are previously.
  5. I'm sure the Brewers have inquired on Greinke, as they have inquired on most options that may be available to them. I believe they do their due diligence on virtually everyone, and I think that sometimes that process gets 'leaked' some way and spun into something more concrete than it actually is.
  6. Yeah, they’re playing great basketball right now. I think a return to the tourney is a virtual lock already.
  7. This does seem like one of those rare cases where an extension doesn’t really make sense for either side. I guess the Brewers might see value in knowing the cost of his arby years, but beyond that I don’t think there’s value.
  8. I’d take anyone on a minor league deal, personally.
  9. Though I agree about this one call in a vacuum, I think the discussion should continue, as this highlights the increased crappiness of officiating as more and more long-tenured crews retire. There should be a solution discussed and implemented to check and balance these things where there’s currently no recourse.
  10. Have you noticed the crickets from MillerCoors? If this story wasn't true, and MillerCoors really wanted to retain naming rights, don't you think we would have heard from them? They've been hiding under the desk before, during, and after this announcement. The Brewers didn't say anything until now, because it didn't serve anyone for them to throw MillerCoors under the bus. Once the bad PR came out, they felt the need to respond. Don't look for something that's not there. MillerCoors wanted out. Not saying you’re wrong, but you only seem to think that only one side can take the high road? Doesn’t their employee memo at least suggest that Tom’s speculation may not be correct? Following the pushback and negative reactions to this, the Brewers have a massive reason to push this narrative...
  11. Sorry, not buying that article at face value. First, Tom clearly states that ‘he believes’ MillerCoors didn’t make an offer, and has only the fact that they didn’t expressly state that they did as his proof with the quotes from Schlesinger on the Brewers side. Seems like a PR ‘save face’ story released now that they had time to put a plan together after an unexpectedly negative reaction and terrible week of PR. Why should anything being stated by Schlesinger or the Brewers be taken as gospel in that context? Could it be true? Sure. Do I think it’s not as clear cut as the Brewers and AmFam would have us believe? You bet.
  12. I wonder if the backlash is expected or surprise, and if they care regardless. If they do, I wonder if American Family Field at Miller Park is plausible.
  13. Interesting to note that the timing of this DOES line up with the 5CST ending later this year.
  14. Considering the cap room that the Packers have, I'm sure part of the reason they decided to trade him was that they're unlikely to net out a comp pick this year, as you suggested. I'd say they assumed that Dix' pick would get washed out.
  15. We must really be in the heart of the non-news cycle of the offseason. What a silly update from Heyman..... of course the Brewers would be interested in bringing Miley back "At the right cost." I'm equally sure that they'd be interested in bringing in Bryce Harper "at the right cost." Or acquiring Madison Bumgarner "at the right cost." Or 'insert name here' "at the right cost."
  16. I'm indifferent on Crosby. We see year after year that the kicker position can be much, much worse, but there are also more reliable options that could be out there. His cap number is significant, so I'd expect a restructure or him to be released. Cobb (and Matthews, I guess) could still be productive in a limited role or at least much smaller cap number. Clay isn't a 3-down linebacker at this point, but they could do far worse than signing him for a modest deal to be a pass rushing edge only. As BSCR notes, though, it's likely someone else would offer more than at least I would be willing to pay them.
  17. And acquired an extra 4th in the process...
  18. I think there's a real possible benefit for the Packers if Murray falls into the 12-range. I think you could see a team like Washington try to move up from 15 and let the Packers grab an extra 3rd/4th somewhere along the line.
  19. With the Saints loss yesterday, their pick is officially #30.
  20. What a great, unexpected win. Hopefully that breaks the slump and is the start of a string of wins!
  21. I make that trade (and with rick's modification as well) for sure, personally.
  22. Pretty much my thoughts, and I think calling someone less of a fan because they think Machado’s talent on the team would be good is pretty stupid. Did someone call someone less of a fan based on wanting Machado? I missed that... Literally, in post #29 above.
  23. Dietrich might be the best offensive option left available at 2B.... the question is whether shifts, etc. can hide enough of the negative impact of his defense to make it worthwhile. At this point, he might be cost effective and a viable option. He likely wouldn't help the lineup's potential issues vs. LHP, though.
  24. I feel like guys like Winston Moss and Joe Whitt Jr are touted as 'up and comers' by McCarthey and the local media, but the results on the field rarely equal the hype. Some of that is personel as OH notes, but it rarely seems like these guys go elsewhere and have tons of success.
  25. Thanks, I do remember that now. Please don't take offense to my lack of recollection previously, that's just my seeming increasingly short memory these days. I think the media struggles to understand what Green Bay is as an organization, and fails to understand the things they need to do to be successful that other organizations in the NFL do not. If there's criticism about the Titletown District, is there also retroactive criticism about the Lambeau Field Atrium levelled at Bob Harlan? Of course not, because it's one of the better financial decisions the team has made. When the district is done, I think the results will be looked at similarly. That said, isn't that what the President of the team should be focusing the bulk of his time on? If anything, doesn't this seem like a 'want it both ways' arguement? Most don't want Murphy involved in stuff like hiring the coach, but then stuff like this says that he should be focusing more of his time on the football aspect of the organization, rather than the financial side.... isn't that incredibly contradictory?
