  1. I'd expect Philbin to be brought back, and honestly, the offense ran best under him as OC anyway. Wouldn't be surprised to see McAdoo back as a coach either. Some reports suggest that Bennett will be on the staff somewhere, but not as OC.
  2. UCF is legit claiming the 2017 National Championship, and I thoroughly love it: http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/21951014/ucf-knights-raise-national-championship-banner
  3. As nearly all Packer fans are aware, Jerry Kramer's long road to the Pro Football Hall of Fame remains one of the most bewildering HOF snubs in all of sports. Kramer is once again a finalist for the 11th(!!) time this year in his 45th year of eligibility. I don't know how much, if any, consideration is given to the fan vote, but now that the modern-era finalists have been announced, I'd strongly encourage spending 30 seconds of your time to support Jerry as we near the finish line for 2018 voting: http://www.nfl.com/qs/hofvote/index.jsp
  4. The JS with a nice list of eight viable candidates: https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/nfl/packers/2018/01/02/8-potential-candidates-packers-general-manager-job/996437001/
  5. Fangio has been my #1 choice since it looked like both Fox and Capers would be fired. I'd be beyond thrilled if that came to fruition.
  6. Honestly, if they kept him on as 'Director of College Scouting', that would probably play well to both his strengths and what appeared to actually be his passion in the GM position, and I'd be fine with that.
  7. I've said previously that I believe that the Packers reached a handshake agreement last year to keep Wolf and Gutekunst here when they were up for other jobs and suddenly stopped pursuing other opportunities. My bet is that there is a plan in place for Ted to retire but stay on in advisory role as Ron Wolf did with Sherman his last year. I'd expect the "search for a new GM" to be quick and result in an internal hire that had already been determined.
  8. Caldwell out in Detroit, Fox out in Chicago. Fox is a bit puzzling to me. He came to the organization just three years ago, and they obtained the guy that they view as their franchise QB an offseason ago. Letting him go, despite 3 poor years, seems indicative of the increasingly short leash on coaches throughout the league. EDIT: Corrected that Fox had three poor years. Nonetheless, they improved this year, in the first that they had their QB.
  9. Kind of sad to have meaningful football done for the state of Wisconsin after this weekend, but I think we can all agree that it's best to just have the Packers' season done at this point.
  10. Nelson apparently received a 2nd round grade from the advisory committee, and will be declaring. Statistically, he had a great season. But even last night, it seemed like he was involved/at fault for many of the busted plays throughout the season. Best of luck to him.
  11. Great start to the bowl season for the BIG... hoping PSU and Wisconsin can keep it rolling to build respect for the league as we hit more of the 'big' games.
  12. Astute cap management to get them done now. I'm not convinced that Nelson or Cobb HAVE to go, but I could see them trying to restructure both.
  13. I believe Leonard was in the top half of defensive coordinators in the Big Ten pay-wise, and only slightly behind an established d-coordinator in Schiano despite being in his first year as a coordinator. I think the assistant pay stuff was a crappy excuse given by Bielema as his reason for leaving more than a serious issue, IMO.
  14. I'd submit that Aaron at Carolina does not equal normal Aaron.
  15. Matt Leinart is enough of a reason why this is a bad decision. To potentially go from #1 overall money to 5-10 if he has a bad year or if someone else comes along that is better is pure lunacy.
  16. Martinez has statistically had an excellent year, and has ranked as one of the top 20 LB's in all of football all year per PFF. And for the record, Clark and Daniels BOTH grade out very high at DT.
  17. What playmakers has Thompson drafted since Matthews? Their personnel stinks regardless of scheme. Mike Daniels, Nick Perry, and Blake Martinez. But yes, more are needed. It's harder to make plays when the scheme is tired and predictable.
  18. He'll be right on the edge for the medical hardship, but I would imagine it will be granted to him. Tough loss in a seemingly already "lost" season. I would argue that for King (and possibly Trice) to be able to gain the year of eligibility back rather than losing it in a punt year anyway is probably better for the program overall. They're being asked to do a lot on a very young team, and a year of learning and observation without the pressure to play may help both of them, IMO. Louis is right... that Jr. class is killing us with unproductive players. The young talent is good, it's just that they're being asked to do so much while being so young. I'd expect them to be much, much better next year.
  19. All fair points, danzig. I think, though, the debate/argument is always whether a player would be better off passing on a shot to be a fringe 3/4th rounder for another year of development and a chance to be a 1/2, making that initial bonus so much more, which is important if that 2nd contract doesn't materialize, as is the case for many/most 3/4th rounders.
  20. I didn't think Nelson played well enough to be anything other than a third-day pick. All-Big Ten, sure. But what's his draft ceiling? Hoping for 3rd/4th round? Going pro now is puzzling to say the least.
  21. McCarthy clearly has zero confidence in Hundley. Playing for OT when you have pretty good field position, a time out, and 45 seconds speaks volumes. I just don't understand how you can look so good on the road vs. a really good Pitsburgh team and also look so poor at home in two very winnable games vs. Tampa and Baltimore.
  22. My goodness. I thought the early toughness in the schedule would help this young team learn, but my gosh, they need to actually start winning some games. Or at least look COMPETENT on even one side of the court. This performance vs. OSU is simply horrendous. I guess if Wisconsin is going to lose to OSU today, I'd rather it be this one than tonight.
  23. Impact of health issues/ availability of JT Barrett... Very likely. Wisconsin +3.
  24. Down to 3.5. Late money on Wisconsin, apparently.
  25. I've done a good job of not thinking too much about this game beyond normal game week stuff until tonight. And based on how excited/freaked out/worked up I am for this one tonight, if they do end up winning I'll be a basket case prior to the playoff game.
