  1. Everett signed a deal with Cleveland last week, so he's off the market.
  2. Yeah, I'm with Al here- Even if we re-sign Cappy, our 6-7 starters are essentially Cappy and either Mark Rogers or Manny Parra. I think that's putting way too much reliance on three guys that each have their own question marks, some of them significant question marks. One more healthy, experienced starter would be ideal for me too.
  3. What he says to the public and what is the truth are two different things. Yeah, there's way too much taking Doug-speak at higher than it's worth going on here. He's notorious for being misleading in the press. After all, do you really expect him to admit publicly that he was forced to take back a player that is currently still on the team? That'd be just terrible PR and professionalism.
  4. I told my wife it was probably the happiest I’d been since I got drafted, like, 10 years ago. In baseball – I was happy when we got married, too. We might have to start a thread just for awesome Greinke quotes. Zack is going to be entertaining as hell for us in a lot of ways.
  5. I can't believe a replacement level player wouldn't be better. They'd be pretty close, if nothing else. Replacement level would probably be a bit worse with the bat, but considerably better in the field.
  6. From Tom's latest blog: Betancourt, who made 18 errors in 151 games, isn’t known for his defense and doesn’t grade out particularly well in certain categories, including range. But those who watch him regularly say he can handle the position as well as former Brewers shortstop J.J. Hardy. Um, really? http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/112165619.html
  7. I'm just looking for reasons to discover the reasons we aren't approaching an extension. How do you know that we're not? Melvin already made a comment today to Haudricourt that suggested they'd at least pursue the idea with Greinke.
  8. Hart could replace Prince. But that's just shuffling the hole without a replacement from one position to another. We wouldn't have a corner OF to replace Hart....
  9. As mentioned in the other thread, Seattle is actually paying 1 million of Betancourt's salary this year. Not sure how that works with the player traded to a third party team?
  10. Upton had a nice rebound year in 2010 after a bad 2009.... I'd be thrilled to get him. But as trwi7 said, we're at the point where a deal would be pretty tough for the Brewers to make with what they have left. Of course I said that about Greinke too.... It'd be really tough to trade Gamel, as he's really the only internal option the Brewers have to replace Prince in 2012.
  11. The only advantage I can see for Dickerson is that he hits LH. I don't think anyone is calling for Dickerson to be the full time starter, most want a platoon for the reason you mentioned above.
  12. Oh, and he gets on base less often than Escobar. But Escobar had the benefit of hitting in front of the pitcher much of the year.
  13. Prince has to feel the Brewers are serious about winning. I think that's a good point. The problem of his agent still remains..... I don't think anyone would argue that Prince wouldn't be happy to stay here if the Brewers end up with a competitive offer. The problem is that the Brewers can't afford what Boras will want.
  14. That was a bit of hyperbole, but I really think that starting Betancourt is unacceptable Don't get me wrong, I completely agree that if things remain the same this year as they were last year, it's absolutely unacceptable. But you're not the first person to suggest cutting ties with him already or 'sending him back to the Royals,' seriously or not. I don't see the point of that- at least see what he's got in the spring. the option needs to be available to dump him if he doesn't show any improvement. I agree completely.
  15. I would also be fine with releasing him tomorrow, giving him back to the Royals for a bag of baseballs, or any scenario that prevents him from ever wearing a Brewers uniform. I think this is harsh.... we're already picking up the tab on him for 2010, so I have no problem with bringing him in to spring camp and seeing if there's something fixable about his footwork or whatever that the team feels he can straighten out. I don't exactly have confidence that a team like the Royals that does pretty much everything terribly didn't miss or fail to correct something that our staff might. The major concern is making sure that there's at least an alternate option that doesn't involve a 41 year old being forced to play everyday.
  16. Assuming Renteria is healthy, he's my choice. I'd be thrilled if they could bring him in with Counsell as the backup.
  17. Tom's latest: Because Jeffress has had two suspensions for marijuana use in the minors, the Royals want to thoroughly inspect his records. If they don't like what they see, they will be allowed to pass and select another player from a short list. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/112153074.html Wouldn't it be nice to know who is on that list?
  18. More frosting on the cake?.....Another player that the Yankees don't get and you know that TB will never trade Garza or Sheilds to them. Have fun with round two of Pavano NY. Just to touch on this- Yankees fans must be besides themselves right now.
  19. There is a good chance that Haudricort is on vacation. Tom is indeed in Virginia with his family for Christmas. He called WTMJ radio this morning from there.
  20. Is it possible that reporters are just using "PTBNL" in a technically incorrect fashion? As in, the deal hasn't actually been formally completed yet, but will be once the Royals figure out which 4th player to take? I think this is exactly what is going on here.
  21. Based upon that it seems like Jeffress could be a PTBNL as long as he named before next season. But the reports that they're reviewing medicals would seem to exclude Jeffress.
  22. Thanks Josh, we really appreciate the updates as always. Please give our best wishes to Lorenzo going forward- we're all really sad to lose him.
  23. Is there a benefit to removing him from the 40-man before trading him? Since KC's 40-man roster is full, they wouldn't have to open a spot up for him since he's off Milwaukee's 40 man.
  24. Could the PTBNL be Butler? As he was just removed from the 40-man, that might be a good call.
  25. So where does this put the Brewers for projected wins? There were a lot of people that had the team at 83-85 wins if the acquired a guy like Blanton and with Cain and Escobar.... assuming Bill James' 6.2 WAR projection for Greinke is accurate and minus Cain, is it safe to project us around 90 wins?
