  1. Not sure if there's any validity to that or not. Anybody have any clue if this is someone in the business' twitter feed, or just some guy?
  2. Marcum is a great addition, but as others have obviously said, the prospects leaving are the concern here. Still young-ish, under control for multiple years, and success in the AL and a really tough division..... exactly who you'd like to acquire, but the return for Toronto almost has to start with a guy like Jeffress.
  3. I went into anaphylatic shock tonight for the second time ever. I ate the same thing for breakfast/lunch that I always do, same thing I had for dinner two days ago (with the addition of 2 cans of beer), no history of allergies. What was I doing when it was triggered? Running. On a treadmill. In my own home. Which again, I have done before at the same distance. The first time? After running, outside that time. First one to figure this out wins a cookie. Urgent care doctors were completely puzzled.
  4. Like most others, I'm not surprised or upset by this. I'm also not eager to see another manager built basically in the same mold as 99% of the rest of the managers out there, so sign me up for somebody new. I will say that I expect it to be somebody like Bob Melvin or Willie Randolph, and I expect the fan base to be calling for his head a year from now just like they were with Yost.
  5. Yeah, I thought he blew it completely, but he got it right. Now that strike 2 call to Prince.....
  6. I am open to coining a general nickname for any Brewers backup outfielder Magruder?
  7. I am no more excited about him than I was about Corey Patterson or Jason Bourgeois last year at this time. Neither one of them was a season removed from a .370 OBP in the majors.
  8. Since when is getting control of a AAAA player important? He had a .370 OBP last year in his first 'full' season in the bigs. I think he's probably a bit above an AAAA player. He's probably a good 4th OF that will remain cheap for as long as he's useful to the club.
  9. The truly disturbing thing about Macha is that there's absolutely zero reason to use three relievers today to get through three innings, but he does stuff like this all the time....
  10. Philip Seymour Hoffman is playing Art Howe? Is this movie a comedy?
  11. Schroeder seems to be completely ignoring the idea that Gomez was hit intentionally, not that the Cubs don't know how to pitch inside.
  12. Gomez hit twice, including a first pitch fastball to the head?
  13. it's really just a two-year extension for $19 mil. Yeah, when you look at it that way, it's a fairly low-risk deal and a good price. And I wanted to trade him for pretty much anything while his value was high. I expect a Weeks deal to follow whenever his agent situation is sorted out (and assuming it doesn't end with Boras), and the Brewers have seemingly put all of their chips into a Fielder deal to acquire the pitching help that they need. It's now absolutely crucial to maximize the return they get for Prince in terms of arms.
  14. Just for the record, Parra and Sanchez' ERA+ (park-effect adjusted) the last two years are: Parra- 63/73 Sanchez- 103/121
  15. You guys are starting to get delusional. Stuff like this isn't cool here.
  16. You don't think a guy like Madison Baumgarner wouldn't be better option than guys 1-3 years away from the Majors?
  17. Where in my post was I eliminating a whole group of players? I was responding to your criticism of the idea that the Brewers shouldn't be concerned about waiting for the offseason when they can get major league pitching. Well, if they can't get major league pitching now, aren't they eliminating that category from consideration now, making the offseason more attractive by default? How can they get the "best package of players" if some of the most attractive players aren't on the table?
  18. If you call that "major league pitching" even though they just got here and haven't reached full potential. I think that's how it's being classified in this discussion. SF/Chicago/Etc are going to be considerably less willing to trade a guy in their rotation right now for anything, but might be willing in the offseason.
  19. I want the best package available. I don't care where the players are. But by eliminating a whole grouping of players, aren't you inherently putting yourself in a situation where you're not being offered packages that are the best value?
  20. On Homer's show this afternoon, TH mentioned that Hart is not expected to play until Friday night in Houston, right before the trade deadline. I think that rules out almost all chance of Hart being traded.
  21. More proof that the Royals (amongst other teams) are horridly run. Why in the world do the Royals make a trade like this?
  22. Rock harping on Braun not going to the cutoff man, but if Kottaras doesn't botch that they have an out at the plate and it wouldn't have been real close.
  23. It's just a shame he could never stay healthy enough to evolve into a truly great pitcher. I think it's also worth pointing out that (completely in hindsight) the Brewers were fortunate to not try and re-sign Sheets to another big deal after 2008 like some wanted. Signing him to a big contract only to miss 1.5 of the next 2 seasons would have been a complete disaster to a franchise already hurt by bad pitching contracts. But I'd certainly like to see Ben bounce back from all of this and become effective again, as others mention.
  24. Braddock's velocity was done in his last outing on Monday in Pittsburgh, but after a good bullpen session Sunday, he is expected to be available again on Monday, to be immediately followed by a surprisingly long period on the disabled list. Fixed. And it's sad that I think I'm only partially kidding.
  25. With Ordonez hurt, adding Edmonds to a Prince deal with the Tigers makes a lot of sense.
