  1. Somewhat surprising that no one has yet mentioned the plus of not having to have any further agony over whether we'll sign Pavano or not and whether that would be a wise decision.
  2. I really hope Rogers isn't the PTBNL If it's truly a PTBNL it can't be Rogers since he's on the 40 man, but the 'reviewing the medicals' stuff sure points in that direction. Rather than a PTBNL, maybe they're just deciding on him before the deal is official?
  3. Rosenthal just tweeted Greinke is waiving his no-trade without receiving anything in return. I think getting out of KC is all he was after.
  4. The only piece I don't like giving up is Cain. Don't care about Escobar. Betancourt isn't good, but he's no worse than Escobar. Jeffress has promise, but as has been discussed, we have enough young bullpen arms. I know people don't like losing Odorizzi, but he's still "just" a low level prospect, so there's no guarantee that he'll be amazing in the bigs. I'll echo this completely, very well said. The Brewers gave up a ton of potential in the deal, but potential doesn't always come to fruition. There's no guarantee that Odorizzi won't stall in the minors, there's no guarantee that Escobar will ever figure things out (and Winter ball isn't helping with that concern), etc. Cain might really hurt down the line, but in the end it should be worth it for the Crew. If Jeffress indeed isn't in the deal, it's all that more astounding that Melvin pulled this off. Really, really exciting news, especially since I wasn't around my computer last night and had no idea this was in the works until about 30 minutes ago.
  5. I guess I don't get why the Brewers wouldn't want Beachy then? I think the general rule with Braves pitching prospects is that when they want to trade a particular guy, turn it down and ask for somebody else. The guys they usually are willing to give up usually end up sucking.
  6. A guy like Grienke's being available for trade and the fact that he'd ok a trade to any team Has this really been publicly said at this point? Last I heard, Milwaukee was on his no trade list but Melvin didn't think that was a major obstacle. Isn't there still some doubt as to what teams he'd ok?
  7. He'd be a really nice option, especially considering the considerably lower amount we'd have to give up for him relative to someone like Garza. It'd pretty much be as a rent-a-player type thing, which may not be bad in the Brewers eyes if their plan is to start the season with Fielder and see where we end up by the trade deadline.
  8. If the Brewers can get a Greinke or Garza type starter in a trade for prospects I think the only way they get Greinke is to include prospects they may have to get by trading Prince. Garza or Shields would be a possibility without that, though.
  9. They'd almost certainly wait until the next offseason after 2011 to have that take effect. You can't ask teams to shift gears in mid-offseason when they've planned for the current system to be in place.
  10. It's been pretty tame in Madison today, with a lot of rain but only light snow for the last few hours. The radar looks to be clear after another hour or so.... are we due to get another round?
  11. You are delusional if you think Easy there....
  12. Parra has no value. Oddly enough, if there's a team where there might be value seen in him is KC because of the Ned connection- maybe they'd be interested if Yost felt he could fix him or something.
  13. Seems like everybody is only talking about a 2-year deal with him at this point. If all else is equal on that front, I'd think he'd almost certainly stay with Minnesota over moving to Washington or Milwaukee. I don't see any of those three teams suddenly adding a year to their offer.
  14. They reportedly already made two offers on him, which KC turned down. I guess the question would be whether they turned them down because they didn't think it was enough, or because they're turning everything down while they wait to see how things sort out with Lee. I think the better indicator that this is dead is the fact that Lawrie was dealt. Unless we're getting another top prospect from a Prince trade, dealing Lawrie was a good indicator that we didn't think we'd need him in a Greinke deal because the possibility was dead.
  15. JS Blog: “I don’t feel any different today about Prince than I did coming here," added Melvin. "He’s a good, talented player. I expect Prince to play at a high level if he’s with us. In Melvin's tenure here, I truly don't remember him ever saying something with the "if he's still with the team" caveat before. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/111562474.html
  16. They don't follow the Brewers and don't realize we have a closer. Yeah, they just think 'Trevor Hoffman left so they need somebody to replace him!'
  17. I too would see what we could do to get Billingsley involved somehow. I just don't think the Dodgers have a real interest in Prince considering their financial situation.
  18. Haudricourt confirms it's a straight-up deal: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/111363479.html
  19. Maybe that is why Lawrie was traded. My thoughts as well... they might not have been too upset to give him up if they have something in the works that puts a solid bat or two right back into the system.
  20. Yeah, I should have clarified my point- that the team isn't restricted to looking only for major-league ready pitching. They could grab a nice bat or two instead, or prospects, etc.
  21. But our prospects always pan out. We could have just traded the next Dave Krynzel or Matt LaPorta. This. Aside from Nelson Cruz, we have yet to really be haunted by a prospect this organization has moved. If we were going to give all that up, I would of rather got Greinke. Lawrie straight up wouldn't have gotten Greinke. There's lots of talk about 'only 2 years' of Marcum. Why is everyone convinced that he's going to bolt when he's a free agent? I think it's at least reasonable to assume that the team will make some effort to keep him if he continues to pitch well.
  22. Trading for Marcum might take a lot of the necessity out of having to trade Prince for pitching (or at least major-league pitching).
  23. Let's get a bit more excited about this Yeah, for sure. This isn't like we've acquired a 4/5 starter like Looper or Bush or Wolf here, this guy could be a legit 2/3.
  24. He's no ace, but he's no back of the rotation starter either. He fits nicely to the 2/3 slot that the Brewers had to fill behind Yo. Put me down as much more interested in giving up Jeffress than Lawrie. A Weeks extension might change my opinion on that, though.
