  1. I thought players were just lucky or unlucky.. or something. I think there are lucky grounders and guys getting hits off good pitches, but these have all been hit hard.
  2. My goodness.... that's two balls Gerut has come REALLY close to in left that he hasn't been able to grab.
  3. damn these lucky hits. ?? I guess the bright side is that it wasn't a first-batter HR like Hoffman has been giving up. With a walk here, this is about as bad as it could be otherwise.
  4. if the ball hits the ground, he is out anyway But they'd have had almost no chance to turn a double-play on Braun at 1st, unless Gomez was stopped in his tracks.
  5. I don't care, you still freeze to make sure the ball goes through, you know, just in case something like that happens. And if the ball hits the ground, like both myself and Craig Coshun thought it did, he's screwed. I don't think what you're saying is completely reasonable considering how the play unfolded, even if you're fundamentally completely correct.
  6. freeze on a line drive..something you have been taught your whole entire life..its bad base running The fielder made a diving, off-balanced stab at a ball that was barely off the ground on a bang-bang play.
  7. Holy moly.... this is what it feels like to take one from our opponents for a change? What a horrible play by Young.
  8. Gomez baserunning epic fail. Not sure what he was supposed to do there....
  9. I'm almost stunned at how many Brewer fans are there. It sounded like Cubs fans at Miller Park after Hart's HR.
  10. If you are a company that allows for an online application for something, you really should put a disclaimer that mentions that if you logout in the middle of the application, you won't be subject to the two most logical results of that action (that you either will continue your application where you left off or would have to start completely over), but instead that the application will be submitted as is wherever you are in the process. Major, major ugh......
  11. I believe there was a story that Jack didn't want Gallardo but Melvin overruled him. Not sure where I read it, though. Beyond that, I wouldn't see a GM change having a major effect on the draft operations.
  12. Yeah, I meant to the minors (although, how many options does he have left at this point)? Stetter can go back and forth between Milwaukee and the minors all year as necessary. They'd still have to clear a 40-man spot for Capuano, which seems to be the thing currently holding up the Braddock call up as it is. Not sure how they'd want to clear two spots, but Vargas' days would certainly seem to be numbered at this point.
  13. Will their replacements be worse than the current situation? Maybe, maybe not. I think that for a partial season, it's irrelevant who replaces Macha, especially considering the hole they have to dig out of anyway, and you're right that you're not going to do much worse than they are now. For Melvin, I'd support a change only if they upgrade. You can certainly do much worse at GM as we've seen over the past 20 years of this franchise, so they'd better be darn sure they're getting someone better than what they have. With Attanasio's Yankee background, I'm deathly afraid he'd be more inclined to hire one of his favorites like Randolph permanently, along with someone like Steve Phillips or someone else with New York ties over someone that can run a small market club. One thing we just don't know anything about as of yet is his ability to pick and assemble the correct guys on his own, and that scares me.
  14. Well I for one am surprised at how much I miss having Carlos Gomez. I agree. Gomez has been one of the few bright spots this year. There are definitely signs that he could be a really good player here.
  15. Suppan can't go more than once through the lineup. He doesn't have the stuff to fool the hitters if they get the chance to see him.
  16. I believe when Peterson was hired, he made comments to the effect of 'I only would agree to take the job if the organization committed itself top-to-bottom' to my methods' or something like that. So I think it implies that no one would be safe from his tinkering.
  17. I get what you're saying, but I don't think it's applicable to the point we're trying to make: I think NDog and I are both simply arguing that it's a timing issue- the team has probably already made up it's mind one way or the other, but firing him after a sweep makes it look poorly timed. EDIT: (Not that it matters, but I thought I was responding to: I still say Macha needs two wins in Minnesota to save his job.) Ah, that makes more sense then. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Fine but then the theory that has been expressed is they will do it or not do it based on what comes down to the results of one game. 1-2 in MN and Macha is fired, 2-1 we keep him (at least until June 7, I guess). I think they fire him unless they sweep, personally. NDog (the person whose point you initially responded to) pretty much said the same thing.
  19. Peavy I think you aren't looking at his two relief appearances in April. Whoops, you're correct. I saw the 4 inning appearance in late April and assumed he was still starting at that point. Still, my point remains. I don't think he'll be going anywhere until he proves he can't cut it as a reliever. we call up a guy hitting .244 with a terrible OPS and OBP and this is supposed to make us better? I don't think a single person in this thread has made that claim, honestly.
  20. why would an 0-6 home stand not have been sufficient to provide the timing? No off day to make the announcement/deal with any ensuing staff departures and such, plus leaving to go on the road. Since this Monday is an off day and they'd be able to make the announcements in Milwaukee, that makes the most sense timing-wise.
  21. Especially when he's a lame duck anyway. Just for the record, the Brewers do have an option on him for 2011. I completely agree with your post, though.
  22. Please please please let the move be to DFA Suppan Suppan has a 1.29 ERA as a reliever so far in 6 appearances- rightly or wrongly, I'm sure he'll have to fail in his new role before they outright release him.
