  1. Can you link to a post from this past offseason where going after Jackson and Willingham was advocated? Otherwise, it's easy to say what should have been done when you're using hindsight.
  2. Doug had harang plus prospect for hardy but from what I have been told MA vetoed due to harangs contract Source?
  3. Why can't the Brewers fill at least one of theirs?? Felipe Lopez has been a heck of a leadoff hitter for us so far.
  4. Wow, for all the disappointment the last couple of years around the deadline, this one's sure not lacking for activity.
  5. and that Clement is a 'catcher' who can hit but hasn't hit at the major league level and who is terrible defensively and likely won't stick at C which means mediocre future 1B. Sounds a lot like Angel Salome to me.... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I've loved Clement since he was drafted, so I'd be thrilled to get him here and let him work on his defense with Don Money and staff, who seem to at least be helping Angel to some degree. Washburn, Morrow and Clement is exactly the kind of deal I would want to see the Brewers do. I agree.... you get a couple of guys that can help our staff now, but more importantly, a couple of guys in Morrow and Clement that will be here a while and add to our young, up-coming talent as well.
  6. They surprisingly have him being worth almost $11 million in the first year of his contract, so at least he earned his money for 1 year. $11 million or so of value in exchange for 4 years and $42 million is not what you want to see though, and he's at work rapidly deducting value from that $11 million he earned in 2007. Yeah, those here that said that Suppan would be ok early in the contract but horrible later on were absolutely correct.
  7. Holy crap, I had no idea about Grissom and Listach..... it's like a disappointing Brewer coaching staff.....
  8. My guess is that we have not watched enough of Lopez to get a good feel for his defense yet. Oh, I absolutely agree. Just pointing out that in just a week, he's made a number of really great plays already.
  9. For a guy who is supposed to be a below-average defender, he sure has made some fantastic plays in his one week as a Brewer already.
  10. The Giants would have to pick up almost all of Zito's contract for me to be interested in that.
  11. Just to add my personal thoughts: I like trading Hardy here only if we get Morrow back as well. That at least guarantees that we'll have a longer-term solution in the rotation going forward as well, and not just a rental. My love for Jeff Clement remains unphased, so if they insist on Escobar, I'd like to see if they've soured on him as much as the fans have in a whopping 200+ AB's in an expanded deal....
  12. Like I said before, I have confidence in Melvin that he won't trade Escobar to Seattle. I agree- or at least confidence that if Escobar is traded to Seattle, there'll be more coming our way.
  13. If Hardy does go, would Escobar get the call? Gamel? Irribarren? Absolutely Escobar.
  14. What would be the combination of players that the Brewers could give up that they would miss the least, while still being attractive for Z and the Ms? I saw someone on a Mariner board post Washburn/Morrow/Balentein for Hardy/Pitching Prospect, so they seem to be on board with what we'd probably prefer to do (Hardy vs Escobar). I'd like for the prospect to be someone like Dillard as I posted before, but it might take more than that to get Jack Z to do it.
  15. I've never used that during trade rumors, but wouldn't you think there would be more sources out there confirming? Yeah, it's all just circumstantial stuff right now- who knows, it's possibly just a glitch on their site or something. But the timing is just odd, and like I said, the Philly prospects are the same way. Not sure if that's them preparing for a possible move since they're in rumors, finding out info first, or again, just a complete coincidence.
  16. To possibly calm some worries he is still listed on the Nashville Sounds once you click his name (unlike the screen before). Thanks! It looks like the Phillies' prospects being talked about for Halladay have something similar going on as well, though. Not sure if it's just something they do when a roster move of some kind might be coming? I think there's definitely smoke here, possibly fire. Or a lot of coincidences. Either way, I think if a trade is to be made, it'll happen sometime in the next 24 hours.
  17. I could see Hardy & a B-prospect to Seattle for Washburn & Morrow & a 3rd pitcher. For all the valid pros & cons, I think that just may be a decent deal. Actually, considering that they also would need a Tuesday starter, Tim Dillard would fit the bill nicely as that B Prospect.
  18. Just to add to the conspiracy theories, Escobar is no longer listed as on the Nashville Sounds when you search for him on minorleaguebaseball.com. Gamel is.
  19. I also don't see a problem with him accepting arby. I agree completely. If he wants to stick around as a utility player, I'm ok with that.
  20. Thanks for posting. In that article he's basically just connecting the dots of what we know at this point, but comes to the logical conclusion that since the Brewers won't officially announce Dillard as the Tuesday starter (yes, it's still TBA on the website as of 9:27pm), Washburn is scheduled to pitch Tuesday, and the Brewers and Mariners are talking and have the Jack Z connection, it's quite possible that something will happen tomorrow.
  21. Lopez is 29, and nearing the end of his window to get decent money in a multi-year deal. Barring something completely unforeseen, I can't see him accepting a role as a backup as a result of that. If he accepts arby, he does so with the full knowledge that weeks is our 2B, Hardy or Escobar is our SS, and Gamel or MaGehee is our 3B.
  22. A perfect example of the "new" Brewers fans that Doug is thankfully ignoring... Not cool or necessary. Just because someone has different ideas doesn't mean they're a bandwagon fan.
  23. Atlanta has McClouth.
  24. Didn't they re-do the rules on this a couple of years ago to make it so that only MLB players get cards? I think they wanted to eliminate the 'two separate rookie card' problems from earlier in the decade.
  25. Hart was awful in the second half of 2008 so Melvin should have known to trade him for pitching while he still had value. Because one half of one season should have over-ridden the 2.5 seasons prior to that that he was a great player? I think that's just looking at the situation in hindsight.
