  1. Really, I don't think we can answer this question until we see what happens before July 31st. I think it's becoming increasingly likely that we make a trade, and from the Halladay chatter, I think it's becoming increasingly likely it involves Gamel, Escobar, or Hardy. Obviously, we'll need to see who's still here when the dust settles to factor them in to 2010. Also, whomever we acquire in trade makes a huge difference as well- if we do acquire Halladay, we're going to be making a big push in 2010, and that makes it much more likely that you're going to see a similar infield next year to what we have now.
  2. Matthews Jr seems like the most likely possibility/match from your list, but has 2 years 20 million left on his contract vs. Hall at 1 year at 8.4, so I'd want something else back from the Angels if they would make that trade. Brian Giles has a full no-trade clause and used that power recently to stay close to home, so he'd almost certainly be off the list.
  3. I haven't had a lot of problems with Macha's moves so far, but letting Manny hit there is very, very puzzling.
  4. Doug Melvin just simply doesn't go after established high caliber pitching in the off-season. .....which also may be because the established high caliber pitching either doesn't want to come here or is offered absurdly more money by big-market teams (which is pretty much the case each and every off season). Teams don't sell in the offseason, they try and get better. The best time to get front line starting pitching is now. This I absolutely agree with. The best type of pitching they can get in the offseason is a Parra-type- a young-ish, MLB ready pitcher that can be traded for someone like Hardy, with no guarantee that he'll be able to carry the load in the rotation and without a long track record of performance. In other words, a total wildcard.
  5. Considering that in Tom's blog Melvin went from Escobar and Gamel being 'completely untouchable' to 'it'd be really hard to deal them', a deal for Halladay seems a heck of a lot more possible today than it did a week ago.
  6. Yes, Cam slid late, but there was zero, zero chance that they get Braun in any universe there.
  7. The "most trusted man in America" died today at age 92: http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/07/17/walter.cronkite.dead/index.html
  8. You're assuming that 1. Parra remains effective as in his first start back, 2. Bush comes back healthy and effective, and 3. That no other starters get hurt. Highly unlikely that all three are going to happen in the 2nd half. And just one day later, Bush is being re-examined because his arm is bothering him.
  9. I don't see Huff as an upgrade over Hart, as his defense would be weak at best, horrible at worst. But the point is that you'd be free to trade Hart for pitching upgrades, as mentioned in the first post of the thread.
  10. I said Washburn wouldn't be an improvement. You're assuming that 1. Parra remains effective as in his first start back, 2. Bush comes back healthy and effective, and 3. That no other starters get hurt. Highly unlikely that all three are going to happen in the 2nd half.
  11. having daddy issues I just wanted to point out that I don't believe there was a SINGLE PERSON here that faulted Prince for the issues with his Dad....
  12. Before this year, the major concern was that Prince's defense would continue to decline, making his value at 1B greatly reduced and making him better suited as a DH. He's taken such huge strides in the field this year, though, that he's certainly making it possible to think he could stick there for a few more years.
  13. I think the Brewers would be negligent if they didn't explore any guys that could potentially help at this point.
  14. Why didn't Pujols pick Brad Lidge to pitch to him? Funniest line of the night goes to ryne. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Albert in serious dangers here....
  15. Seriously, neither Yo or Hoffman deserves to go. Um, ok. Hoffman: 2.05 ERA, 20 saves after missing the first month of the season, 2.65 K/BB ratio, .223 OPA, .525 OOPS.
  16. Attendance in Huntsville started its precipitous decline in 2000, the second year of its affiliation with Milwaukee. Any particular reason for the dislike of the Brewers/decline? It's not like the organization hasn't run considerable talent and many future big leaguers through there in the last 10 years....
  17. It's actually back on. What studio picked it up? Columbia just dropped it very recently, so that's a heck of a rebound for a concept that doesn't seem like it will be particularly interesting or draw well in theaters.
  18. Yeah, Columbia Pictures scrapped it a week or so ago.
  19. In my opinion, there's no chance whatsoever that any team takes on Suppan's awful contract. There's absolutely a chance, but the Brewers would have to take on a bad contract in return. The Angels would trade Gary Matthews for Suppan (or Hall) in a heartbeat.
  20. I was not specifically referring to Halladay, but to the many proposals that have included the future 6 year starters I mentioned. But the point Al is that no one is offering Gamel or Escobar for a mediocre/rental guy like Washburn or Davis (or even Bedard, really), they're proposing them in trades for either truly top-notch guys like Halladay or another 6 year starter like Buchholz. There are no magic beans involved here.
  21. Come on Al, Roy Halladay is a bag of magic beans?
  22. Vazquez Millwood Peavy Morrow Was Morrow actually rumored to be available? And last offseason Peavy wasn't waiving his no-trade clause for any trade other than to the Cubs. Millwood pitched like crap the last two years, so there was no reason to think he'd be any better than a 4-5 type. Vazquez makes sense, though I'm sure the front office would have been concerned about his fly ball tendencies when pitching in Miller Park.
  23. When that is the case, and you are coming off a playoff season, I think you make that risky trade and go for a #2/#3 type. Yet again, WHO? People keep throwing things like this out there, but aren't actually saying who the Brewers could have actually gotten.
  24. The golden boy Hardy swinging away again. Per the rules of conduct, please don't be repetitive. You posted the same thing in multiple threads a few seconds apart.
  25. A complete list of 2008 offseason free agents, not those necc better than Braden Looper, just the complete list. Ok, that's helpful. Now which ones from that list should the Brewers have signed that they actually had a chance at?
