  1. Because the Brewers need to replace 3 starters in 2 years already. Trading Parra for Lee makes it 4. The Brewers have maybe one internally who could be ready by 2011 if Green keeps it going. The Brewers can't get that many starters in FA. So you have to throw up NRIs constantly against the wall at that point. It seems fairly unreasonable to assume that the Brewers won't be able to re-sign any of them at that point.
  2. Full video of the Hanks interview is on NBC.com, FWIW.
  3. Seems like a stunningly classless move from what is usually a very good organization.
  4. The thing that's really starting to become a problem for the Brewers is that all of the major pieces that they could trade away in a deal are performing poorly and probably hurting their trade value as a result.
  5. Tom Hanks and Green Day... both very good.
  6. Nice to see a more "Conan-like" show last night. I agree that it's nice to see Andy back- I'd imagine they're going to use him like Ed McMahon, where he's much more visible during the show as Conan gets more settled in.
  7. His studio audience sure thinks so. I'm not more of a casual watcher of his show, but it sure seems like their response is always a bit over the top to the material. I don't know- I usually find the monologue very funny. I think it helps to be a regular watcher, as he uses a lot of running gags.
  8. It almost looked like Cameron was running with Fielder. Was that a double steal? It looked like Cam took off after he saw Fielder go- looked reactionary, not planned.
  9. Personally, I like Conan, Ferguson, and Letterman. I think Craig Ferguson is very overlooked, and almost surely has the best monologue on late night tv.
  10. Nothing like running yourself out of an inning with a struggling pitcher on the mound. Good freaking grief.
  11. That might be the dumbest steal attempt I've seen by a Brewer in a couple of years.
  12. Conan's appeal is very different from Leno's and I think he'll alienate a lot of Leno's viewers. Conan's humor and schtick can be very grating and juvenile sometimes and I can't see the 50-somethings that enjoy Leno will not make the transition with him. While I agree that his appeal is different from Leno's, Conan's act is much more similar to Letterman's than Leno's, so if they don't like Conan, the viewers aren't likely to switch over to Letterman (who at this point is arguably more grating and juvenile).
  13. But would Cain and Winn for Hart and Jeffress get it done? That deal probably makes a lot more sense for both sides....
  14. Corey Hart is currently our #7 hitter, so I am not sure Cat/Gerut couldn't be just fine hitting in that slot. The Brewers should be focused on putting the best quality lineup out there from top to bottom, not focusing on the relative talent based on where in the lineup a guy is hitting. Saying they could be fine in the 7th spot doesn't really matter when replacing Hart for them still downgrades the overall performance of a team, probably by a considerable amount more than Sanchez would upgrade the rotation.
  15. Yep, I doubt we can get Cain, but Jonathan Sanchez would be very nice to have for more than a couple years. But again, that's really the type of deal better suited for the offseason rather than now. Unless the Brewers drop out of contention before the deadline, they can't afford to open up a hole to fill another. The dropoff from Hart to a Gerut/Catalanotto RF is probably a greater downgrade than the upgrade of going from Parra to Sanchez.
  16. Wow Cam, if you want to give up a run then replace it with two, ok then.
  17. I think we need offense more thanwe need pitching, if Gamel flames out (for now) we need to add a bat at 3b!!! I don't believe that at all. The offense has enough quality hitters to compensate for Gamel regardless, our pitching staff has three serious potential issues in the rotation beyond this year (Suppan, Looper's free agency, and whether Parra puts it together or not).
  18. Hall isn't even an option at 2B. Like how Catalanotto isn't an option in RF?
  19. The problem with Sheets is that he really was not an athlete. Other than his great right arm which carried him in baseball, IMO he didn't have any sort of ability to do any sport past high school. Yeah, but you can say that about a ton of baseball players, or really players in any sport in general. They typically have one skill set that lets them excel in a particular sport, while floundering in most others.
  20. For the love of God, please don't turn this into another 'it's my right to boo/no, it's classless' thread....
  21. Just heard about major problem with this deal. Axelrod understandably does not want to say either way if Peavy will drop no-trade clause until deal is on the table with possible team and Padres. This gives him more leverage for the option for 22 million. Definitely makes sense, as that's been speculated on quite a bit. Really no surprise there- to get the no trade clause waived, the team that gets him probably has to guarantee the option.
  22. Hearing this makes me question why they Crew still puts up with such fraud and the like for so little ($100?). I guess I'm not sure where the "fraud" takes place- first, it's not like they're selling Uecker tickets for promo games only, they're sold for all 81 home games. Two, people who buy a ticket to the game, any ticket, are entitled to receive any promo items. Not sure where the "fraud" is in that, really.
  23. How about it? The first time you are caught you are banned from professional baseball forever. Include blood tests and the abillity to go back and retest old samples once new testing methods are found for previously undetectable substances. Why even mess around? I agree completely- put real fear into these guys. And if you want to punish the team, I'd think losing even a decent player forever with no compensation is a heck of a deterrent there as well.
  24. Already a whole thread on replacing Weeks. Agreed.
