  1. As this deal is not done and appears to be getting less likely to happen soon, this thread is headed to the Rumors Forum.
  2. Which ones? Lowe and Burnett already have huge offers. Do you really want Oliver Perez? Braden Looper? Paul Byrd? These guys don't make us better. No, but Randy Johnson, Ben Sheets, Brian Fuentes, and Trevor Hoffman do. Brad Penny too, depending on medical reports.
  3. I am not sure what the value in "not making low-quality posts" is, or how that qualifies as a contribution It has long been this site's stance that we don't expect everyone to be making posts dissecting the merits of batting the pitcher 8th on the 2nd tuesday of every month when the moon is full, but that we're not going to have the 'OMG, what is Melvin doing!!!!!???!?!??!' posts that are most other places as well. Any new members agree and acknowledge this when they submit their membership application now, BTW.
  4. Apparently the Yankees are interested in Hall as well http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/brewers.html Also from that report, a deal is not done and talks were postponed until this morning.
  5. Sure, some of those pitchers are quality, but which one won't be grossly overpaid? Signing a FA pitcher will put the Brewers in a major hole for a long time. I think that other than Sabathia, the free agent market as a whole will be full of signings that are lower than in years past by quite a bit. KRod already signed a deal that's below what an inferior closer in Cordero got just last year, and once the Yankees stop their mindless spending, some good pitchers are going to be available for contracts similar or less than the one we gave to Suppan a couple of years ago.
  6. I don't see the point in clearing money so we can sign a FA when the FA's available are undesirable. I disagree strongly with this. This is one of the best free agent classes for pitching ever, and there are certainly guys out there that would be huge upgrades for the Brewers and will certainly help for 2009. And there are also impact bats as well, if they want to get involved for someone like Dunn.
  7. Yes we can assume Jack Z is irrational but that doesn't make a realistic trade scenario. Considering what he got for Putz, I think it's more realistic than we'd think. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif But seriously, if someone is going to be irrational with a guy like Fielder, it's Jack Z. We have no idea to what length he'd like to have one of his successful draft picks on the Mariners, even if it doesn't make a ton of sense to them.
  8. If this deal is straight up, it's clearly a salary dump. And I don't like it. It would certainly indicate that the Brewers do plan on being players in the remaining free agent market, though. I'll hold out hope that we can get an arm coming back our way in the deal yet, though.
