  1. I don't think Peavy has actually been negotiating with any teams- he just gave the Padres the two places he'd accept a trade to.
  2. Are we to read between the lines then and assume that he has convinced CC himself that NY is the right fit? That certainly seems to be how Tom H is taking it.
  3. Tom H Reports that Cashman is flying to SF to try and convince Mrs CC on New York (despite Macha's continued optimism): http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/35844834.html
  4. mlbtraderumors now reporting that a Sabathia to the Yankees deal is closer than ever to being accomplished. This entire thing is a joke. There are so many "live winter meetings feeds" and blogs and rumors and columnists throwing so many details out there, it's no wonder there's so much conflicting information. I don't ever recall false transactions being reported like they have been this year. I really wonder if some of these guys hear a whisper and run with it, truth be damned, just to try and get a scoop and readers.
  5. No way could Patterson be worse than Laynce Nix, but I'm not sure that's a strong selling point. It's actually on his business cards. "Corey Patterson: No way could I be worse than Laynce Nix"
  6. Fuentes, while nice, is a little too high-end for me. For the record, wasn't Fuentes talking 3/30 million when KRod was still talking 75 million? Now that the closer market is saturated and Rodriguez signed for less money than Cordero did last year, I think his demands might be somewhat lower.
  7. From Tom's latest blog: Melvin said he did talk about possible trades with Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik, the Brewers' former scouting director. Melvin wouldn't reveal which names were discussed but the Brewers are known to have interest in Mariners closer J.J. Putz, who is available via trade. But Melvin said he decided he did not have a match with the Mariners, so you can forget those rumors about Fielder going to Seattle. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/35838739.html
  8. They fixed their mistake already: • The Mariners need a power hitter. The Brewers need a closer. There is speculation that the two teams are discussing a package involving J.J. Putz and Prince Fielder. It's too much to ask ESPN to realize that Prince isn't Cecil, apparently.
  9. The Giants article's headline says "Brewers emerging as frontrunner" but he says absolutely NOTHING in the story about the Brewers. First line of the article: An executive close to the CC Sabathia talks told me the perception is that the Brewers are emerging as the frontrunner.
  10. we have all our eggs in one basket and if we don't get CC we are again left with the Bottom of the Barrell. Good thing that with the large number of closers available this year, there bottom of the barrel is a long way off.
  11. This is officially official: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/35805999.html
  12. You are ignoring the part where we win... we sign CC Sabathia. There's also nothing saying that we can't trade him in 2.5 years if it looks like he's going to exercise the 3-year opt out.
  13. Sheets is going to leave because the team hasnt treated him well at all. Melvin has made no sincere efforts to keep Ben and that will turn out to be a huge mistake. No, I think Sheets is ticked off that after nearly 10 years with the organization, the Brewers are rightfully focusing their efforts on CC and not him.
  14. The Braves' interest in Hardy was denied by Melvin in Tom's latest blog, if you've yet to hear that elsewhere: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/35780504.html
  15. Melvin confirms that the Braves asked about Hart, denies they asked about Hardy, and says he has no plans to move Hart: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/35780504.html I expect Hart to be a Brave by morning.....
  16. Boy, that's a sudden change from Melvin saying just last night that they'd talk to Sheets' people this week. Based on that last comment, I think it's safe to say that despite Sheets' earlier quote about not burning bridges, the reports of him not wanting to come back to Milwaukee are probably true.
  17. He is a slightly better version of Gwynn JR. The only way Gwynn JR slugs .452 in a season is if he starts offseason training with Bonds' "trainers".
  18. I have never had my entire car encased in a thick layer of ice before like it was tonight. Wow.
  19. He can get a one year deal at $10-12m anytime Unless there are concerns about his health/injury, which one would be led to believe by the apparent lack of interest in him.
  20. If all he's really looking for is a minor league deal with an invite to spring training as he claims, I'd have no problem with that at all. I have no problem signing anyone to a minor league deal.
  21. Per Rosenthal's Live feed from the meetings, Sheets just arrived there a short time ago: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8912072 "There's nothing out there for me to contemplate right now," Sheets said, "so I don't know." So he declined arby without any indication that someone was going to give a multi-year deal? Asked if he might return to the Brewers, Sheets said, "Everything's possible. I never burn any bridges." Nice to see that, even if it is posturing.
  22. Coffey wasn't a FA so this hardly qualifies as earth shattering. I don't think many people were under the impression that it was. Nice low risk signing. Hopefully he can keep up his success from his limited innings in September.
  23. It means that Olney, former Yankee beat reporter, desperately wants CC on his team. Just like Gammons making up these outlandish trade rumors for the Red Sox every year. Yeah, I still remember Olney back in July insisting that CC might go to a bigger market team, even as the Brewer trade was practically being announced. This news today certainly makes a CC return to Milwaukee look a heck of a lot more possible than it did yesterday.
  24. He'll still be valuable in 2010 But it's all about position scarcity as well. For example, if you're trying to fill holes this season by trading a closer (ala JJ Putz or Bobby Jenks), you're going to find your return greatly diminished because not only are other closers readily available via trade, but you've also got 4 big name closers available on the FA market. In Hardy's case, Jack Wilson is apparently a highly sought after commodity this offseason, so that should speak to the scarcity of quality SS available right now.
  25. Somewhat surprising that Tom H hasn't gotten word on Sheets yet. Not sure if that means anything one way or the other, but I'd think a delay in the news suggests that it may have been a decision that the Sheets' camp thought hard about.
